So I've noticed myself doing it a few times, but I'm genuinely curious what your guys's opinions on this is: basically when in any work of fiction when they have something that exists in real life or another fictional work and they simply refer to it as a different name. No no these aren't mobile suits. They're called jaegers. Lightsaber? Oh you mean my beam sword.
What are you guys think about it when settings do this. In my setting, this happens in innocuous, at least in my opinion. plate carrier, oh you mean battle harness right? Cell phone? Oh you want to use my digitex.
Are there any good examples from your verses and on the whole? How do you feel about this practice? Also, the title is a reference to a Eugene merman bit.

i don’t know how common this trope is but as gallaplacidia’s #1 fan i became so obsessed with the portrayal of draco as an english/literature student or just someone who’s passionate and knowledgeable about literature in general.
i’m looking for that overall vibe in draco, so it could look like draco being an english student at a muggle uni, draco working at a bookstore, draco being a writer, draco just being really interested in literature… all those things haha. honestly this also includes history/classics/humanities nerd draco- i just think draco in academia is so fun and when it’s a muggle or non-magic topic he’s into it’s even more interesting to me. like the thought of draco malfoy sitting down to write a dissertation is just so silly and sweet. if you know of any fics that come to mind please send them my way!!

2024.11.25 09:27 VulnerantOmnes New pen day! Amazing Ancora? Light and broooad
 | So, a few days ago I requested info about a pen i wanted to purchase, it was an unknown piston-fill pen with a “Warranted” golden nib spotting an anchor, a user indicated it could be from the Ancora brand. Now I’ve finally got hold of it and tried if for a few days and just wow. What a gem! It is pretty small, weights around 7,76 g for the body alone and another 4,13 g for the cap, putting the entire pen under 12 g, which is freaking light. But then, the piston capacity is a meager 0,8 ml if you really push it, otherwise, you would probably get around 0,7 ml, just like your regular short international cartridge, which is kind of underwhelming, but anyway. The pen writes easily, beautifully, somehow the whole package of size/weight/nib-feel makes me want to write smaller and “cosier” than what I would usually do. And then there’s the nib. It feels rather inconspicuous, and doesn’t feel particularly springy on first sight, but then it can get a pretty broad line, I mean, seriously. I would say the nib was intended as an F, but I don’t see any mark. However, I would say it writes more like an M, but this could also be due to the ink. In this test I’m using Twsbi Black, which is seriously viscous and wet (with R & K Alt-Grün Gold I get it to railroad way easier). The feed gets a very wet line… and then some. You can really push it and go fast, and it’s really hard to railroad it. It is doable, as you can see. There is always a combination of broad line and speed where it just wouldn’t cope, but it’s nothing short of surprising. I would say the line is (nearly) as broad as the FPR Ultra Flex. However, the thin line on the FPR is thinner, so I’d say the variation is bigger on the FPR, but this little anchored nib just puts a smile on your face. Another surprising thing is that reverse writing with this is just like using any "regular" EF, you could just write page after page like this. I am not 100 % sure this is an Ancora, at least my image of the Ancora brand is that of very refined instruments. On the section of this pen you can see the seams of the plastic injection molding, so I guess not the most delicate of jobs. The clip has a very distinctive ornamentation, and the nib unit can be unscrewed easily. Maybe that can give a clue to someone in the know. I lodged my visa application to the Netherlands last Nov. 12, 2024 and received an update after 2 days that it's already being processed in CSO in The Hague. After that, I haven't received any update yet, no changes. My flight is on Dec. 13 and I am afraid as it might get delayed even more because of the system issue they are saying.
Anyone experiencing the same as mine? Thanks.

2024.11.25 09:27 envyy2021 Boot Loop With Ryzen 7 5700X3D?
So for the past 2 days I have had this issue.
I replaced my old CPU Ryzen 7 3700x with the 5700x3d.
I ran my computer and it ran perfectly fine, detecting the new CPU (BIOS was said to be on a compatible version)
I then decided to update windows. After the update finished, I had to restart to compete it, which I did.
When I hit restart, I went away for 5 min. I came back to my pc fans on Max and monitor receiving no signal from the pc. I decided to shut off pc since nothing was happening for 30seconds.
After turning on the pc again, I was stuck in a boot loop. It would never boot. It would try to load windows, then restart. I tried repairing and reinstalling windows with a usb drive, but it wouldn’t even boot into that given priority to boot. It would just restart.
I was only able to go into the bios. I didn’t know what to do for so long. I did almost everything thinking this was a windows corruption or ram issue or gpu incorrect seating.
I fixed my issue by putting my old CPU back in.
I don’t understand how when I put my new cpu in, it worked and ran fine. I updated windows, went away, and saw my pc with the fans on max speed and my monitor saying no signal, which made me decide to shut off my pc.
Turning my pc back on, I was hit with the boot error. I thought this error was due to the fact I turned the pc off during the windows update. I tried so many things and absolutely nothing worked
After putting my old cpu back in to see if it solve the issue, IT DID! I went to windows update and saw that the windows update I was doing actually successfully installed.
So that means the CPU is the issue that made me boot loop the entire time.
I don’t know if it is because the CPU is faulty or some other issue, but while I was trying to solve the boot loop, I did update bios (which didn’t work).
So I decided I’m going to try out the new CPU in and see if the issue still happens. If it does then I will replace it.
What do you guys think the issue is? Any help would be appreciated!
