Ok this is a long post but I’m trying to include as much background info as I can:
Some backstory: My grandpa is almost 91. His mind is slipping. His home is in an area in Florida where Helene and Milton caused a lot of devastation. His home had some damage, but nothing detrimental. He’s lived in his duplex home since the 70s. My mom grew up in this home. All of his grandkids grew up in his home. His wife/my grandma died in this home. It is paid off. He has a dog that is reactive to other dogs and is a little aggressive, but he loves this dog so much he won’t part with it. My mom has had many conversations with my uncle, we’ll call him Allen, over the years saying my grandpa can move in with her if he needed. She’s also said she wants to keep the home in the family and has a strong sentimental attachment to it. It’s in a nice beachy but touristy area, so to help pay for the high taxes and insurance, they will need to rent it out as a vacation home every once in a while after she and my dad renovate it a bit. Allen has been fine with that. He said because grandpa’s will is 50/50, my parents would need to pay him out of it. My mom and Allen split power of attorney and Allen is executor of the will.
Allen moved away almost 6 years ago. He recently moved to tennessee to live closer to a mega church he watches on tv. He rarely visits his dad and has had little play in his care. My mom has taken care of my grandpa for YEARS. She picks him up and spends the day with him 3-4 times a week, takes him to doctors appointments, grocery shops, out to eat etc. Allen’s only contribution is sending instacart to my grandpa’s home every once in a while.
During the storms, my grandpa evacuated his home and lived with my mom for almost 4 weeks until his area was safe to inhabit, had electricity/ clean running water.
My grandpa’s friend lived next door to him and lost his home completely. My grandpa offered for him to live with him until he could find a place to go. Everything was fine until paranoid ex-cop Allen does research and finds my grandpa’s friend had a domestic dispute charge over 20 years ago (no jail time). Allen freaks out and threatens my grandpa’s homeless friend to get out immediately or he would call the cops. He called and harassed this 80yr old man with a bad leg all day until he left. Allen believed my grandpa isn’t in his right mind to make those decisions. (Keep this mindset in mind for later). Even though my mom let this friend stay in her own house during the evacuation too, because she knows and trusts him. This is one of many backstories on the type of person my uncle is. I don’t like him if you can’t tell.
Lately, my mom and Allen have been trying to get my grandpa to qualify for the “patriot angels”. This is an organization that gives veterans benefits in collaboration with the VA. My grandpa has a max limit on his assets before he qualifies. He is currently over the asset limit and they have been trying to figure out what to do. for some reason, this limit includes his life insurance.
Ok so here’s the situation:
In late October, Allen, out of nowhere, decided he’s coming down to visit and help my parents clean up my grandpa’s house. (In the end he did nothing). This is after the fact that before, during, and after the storms, he kept saying he couldn’t “find the time come help prepare for the storm or clean up.” Right after he randomly showed up, he immediately started spitting out random numbers he “did research on” for what it would cost to fix up the home and said they need to move grandpa out of his home and to an assisted living place. Thus needing to sell the house. My mom said she agreed grandpa didn’t need to live by himself anymore, especially because he has to climb stairs to get into the home. She said they could tour some retirement homes to see if he liked them. but if he didn’t like them, he could permanently move in with her. She didn’t think they need to sell the home yet. Allen agreed.
They toured some retirement homes but found didn’t really like the way they raise the prices annually. My mom said he can stay in a home for a bit and if he needed more care down the road, he could move in with her. She is a stay at home mom and has the time, space, and commitment, and my grandpa has stayed there a lot during storm evacuations and is used to it.
My grandpa has been hesitant to move in with my mom in Florida and with Allen in Tennessee because they have dogs and he doesn’t want to cause fights with his reactive dog. I personally noticed grandpa seemed uneasy when Allen was around during that week. Grandpa even told my mom “I wish he would go the eff back to Tennessee already”.
While Allen was down there, he randomly called my mom and said they had an appointment the following day with a lawyer to put the house into a trust. my mom was confused but said ok. Right before the lawyer meeting, he pulled her to the side and said they have to sell the home because my grandpa needed the money. My mom has helped grandpa with his finances for years and said grandpa has been saving up for an instance like this. She said he absolutely has enough money to pay the monthly rent in a retirement home if he needs it with his savings and monthly social security/pensions/retirement etc. My mom said to Allen “if you want to sell the home so badly, let my husband and I buy it and pay you out.” Allen became furious and yelled at my mom calling her selfish and he will be taking her to court because he “cares more about my grandpa than she does”. He is convinced it will cost 10k a month to care for my grandpa in a home. No one knows where he is getting this number from. They toured many homes together. I want to emphasize that my mom doesn’t see this home as dollar signs. She sees it as a piece of her life and her children’s lives. She’s a very sentimental person and it is so important to her. Allen backed off when he found that the lawyer couldn’t put the home into a trust to hide that asset from the patriot angels, so my grandpa cannot get the funds. Plus, the money from the home sale would raise his assets even further past the limit. Allen never even told those lawyers what their meeting was really about beforehand. It was so spur of the moment. The lawyer asked grandpa what he wanted, and grandpa said he doesn’t really care.
A few days later, before Allen was supposed to fly home, he was in charge of bringing grandpa to my brother’s birthday party. Right before the party Allen called my mom and said he was currently driving home, and took my grandpa and his dog with him. He did not consult my mom about it at all. He said he would bring him up to tennessee for a few weeks and then bring him back after thanksgiving.
My grandpa doesn’t have a cell phone so Allen is the main point of contact now. He is basically screening calls. He won’t let me talk to my grandpa without being on speaker phone. He told my mom that my grandpa wants to stay there. He also took grandpa’s dog from him and gave him away to a shelter. Allen has also mentioned to my mom that he wants to put grandpa in a home in Tennessee now, a plave he has never lived before. My mom said now that the dog is gone, grandpa can move in with her back in Florida with no worries but Allen insists my grandpa wants to be up there.
My mom was checking my grandpa’s mailbox for him at his home and found it empty. When she called Allen and asked about it, he said oh yeah I forgot to tell you I forwarded his mail to my address here in Tennessee.
My grandpa’s doctors are in Florida. Most of his family is there. I feel like his mind has been slipping a lot lately and Allen is taking advantage of it. I am also worried Allen is trying to pull something over on my mom. Is this possible? Is there a way he can get money out of this somehow? I’m worried he will never bring my grandpa back home and we will never see him again.
I want to help my mom. She’s so depressed because her father who she has cared for and spent so much time with for years is just gone and she feels she has no control. Has anyone experienced something like this before?

 | New home owner! Can anyone tell me what setting is activated when I push both of these buttons at the same time, I dictated by the plus mark between them. At least I think that's what it's telling me. 🤔 I thought it activated spin only by looking at the diagram but spin only is activated by holding the water level button for 3 seconds. The manual is barely helpful. Google has failed me too. 😕 When I do push and hold them together I get a symbol in the screen. Shown in 2nd picture. What the heck does that mean? I'm really uncomfortable what i saw neighbors living in same apartment building where go and inside by the indoor gate everytime. Their attitudes are more unusual without first time greetings. - The client queries DNS A for www.example.com.
- DNS A forwards the query to DNS B, which responds with a CNAME: www.example.com → app.web.com.
- DNS A then queries DNS C for app.web.com. DNS C, based on internal logic (e.g., load balancing, geo-location, etc.), decides to return different CNAMEs such as:
app.web.com → cloud.example.com
app.web.com → cloud2.example.com
app.web.com → cloud3.example.com - DNS A then forwards the selected CNAME (e.g., cloud.example.com) AGAIN to DNS B, which resolves it to an IP address.
- Finally, DNS A returns the IP address to the client.
