According to the National Youth Gang Survey, from 2002 to 2010, the estimated number of youth gangs increased by nearly 35 percent (from 21,800 to 29,400). The roles of race and ethnicity in gang membership are becoming increasingly complicated; more gangs are becoming multiracial, which affects the role of race and ethnicity, especially with respect to conflicts between gangs. Research-based evidence on how race and ethnicity should influence gang membership prevention strategies is still limited. Gang members engage in a higher level of serious and violent crime than their non-gang-involved peers. Research about gangs is often intertwined with research about gun violence and drug crime. It is clear that gangs, guns, drugs and violence are interconnected.[1] Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Sandy Hook Elementary School, and Santa Fe High School, among others, are now synonymous with a particularly insidious form of violence in our nation — mass violence and school shootings. School shootings like these heighten the perception that schools are dangerous places for youth. Arguing that many principals in schools with gang problems do not recognize or admit a problem, Gottfredson points to a large study of secondary schools that found that only one-fifth of the principals in schools with gang problems (defined as more than 15 percent of students reporting they belonged to a gang) said their school had a problem. Targeted violence spans a wide array of offenses, from mass shootings to gang or group-violence-related activities to human trafficking. Although each of these topics has been researched extensively, until recently they have not been studied to identify similarities and differences in the context of domestic violent extremism and terrorism. Currently setting up my home server and I've come to a fork in the road. I had originally thought I would run Truenas and then run docker containers on top of it. Amongst many other things I'd like to run Jellyfin with GPU passthrough and several apps behind Gluetun. The thought was that Truenas would provide a lot of functionality for free and then I'd build on top of that. Lately though I'm second guessing that and thinking of just running Debian and setting up everything by hand. Are there things I might be missing/failing to consider as to pros and cons between the two options? What would the people of reddit do?

2024.11.25 15:00 fradele Outdoor cattery in January (UK) - too cold for 10mth-old, indoor kittens?
Hi, my partner and I are based in the UK, and will be going away for a week in early January. We've found a lovely cattery near us, with a really caring owner - we'd feel very happy leaving our kittens with her.
However, the cattery pens are outside and fairly exposed (wooden sheds with wire windows). Each pen has a little hut inside, where each cat is given a heating pad, mattress, and blankets - and we'd board them in the same pen. But I'm wondering - would being outdoors be too big a shock for their first boarding experience, seeing as they've only ever been indoor cats (who love radiators)?
I'm worried they'll be too uncomfortable in the cold, but unfortunately the indoor cattery near us didn't seem anywhere near as caring, which put us off. If it helps, the cats will be 10 months old by January, and they're currently ~2.7kg each (they're tiny lil boys) with fairly short hair - but a lot of it!

So I am going through a tough situation at the moment with my mom and I am leaving to my birth country where my dad lives (80% of my family lives there too) and my mom said she could look after her but I don’t trust her, her overall behavior and the way she cares about the cat right now is not good, she says “I don’t have time to look after cats” because sometimes I don’t see her inside and I ask if she went outside or have you seen her and acts like she doesn’t care, and since my cat Millie is very attached to me she has separation anxiety if I go she will just stay sad and my mom probably won’t care and don’t cheer her up, so I was maybe thinking of taking her to the shelter maybe someone else adopts her or just to give her to someone else to take care of Millie while I’m gone or just overall for her to have a new home what do you guys can think

We’re renting a single-family house that seemed great during the initial walk-through—looked like a well-maintained first family home being rented out by a family man.
Now that we’re actually living here, it’s a nightmare:
The back door is missing a lock. The dishwasher has a plumbing issue that pushes up old food (I clean it out regularly). The vents were glued to the walls. There’s random water damage on a baseboard downstairs that isn’t near water or a bathroom. The vent system was filthy (we had to get it professionally cleaned because it was so bad). The landlord didn’t even make sure the air filter was clean before we moved in. I sent him a picture, and his only response was, “Wow, that’s dirty.” The hose on the kitchen sink is broken and only switches to the spout if you hit it against the sink. He said the carpets were cleaned, but there’s dog hair everywhere. The walls haven’t been touched up in years—lots of dents and chipped paint. There’s mold in the shower. The list keeps growing, and I’ve been asking for a walkthrough with him, but he keeps dodging me.
We signed a year-long lease, and I’m feeling overwhelmed. I thought I did a thorough walk-through before moving in, but I clearly missed a lot.
Our lease says “as-is” condition, but I didn’t expect this. Should I hire an inspector? What are my options?
