Hey everyone,
I’m a CPA with a background in tax (no financial planning experience), but I’m looking to transition into wealth management and, ideally, build a “family office” type of service down the road. My goal is to have a firm that offers both CPA and CFP services under one roof.
I’m trying to figure out the best path forward:
-Should I buy a small CPA practice, use it as a base, and build out a wealth management arm?
-Or should I leave public accounting altogether and start fresh with an entry-level wealth advisor role somewhere?
I love financial planning and don’t want to get stuck just doing the CPA side of things but I enjoy tax planning as I have a great deal of experience here. I also feel like using the CPA side to get prospective AUM clients infront of you is extremely powerful. For those who’ve gone down a similar path, what would you recommend?
Appreciate any insights or advice!

So, since I let my F1 go for 18 days (I live on the italian alps and it’s pretty cold here), I think it’s time to bottle. When I started I used 6L of tea (+ the starter from a friend) because I have 5 x 1L bottles so I thought that I would have been left with 1L of starter for the next brew. So now my plans are to basically bottle this and then prepare another 5L of tea to pour with the 1L starter and repeat the cycle. Am I doing some mistakes? I would love any suggestions or criticism since I’m just trying to improve. First, at the top: For anyone affected by a moderation action they don't understand or agree with: per Bluesky's TOS you should email [email protected]. That is your quickest path to get help, clarification, reconsiderstion, reinstatement, etc.
Us other users can certainly sympathize with the frustration of having your content blocked or account suspended seemingly out of the blue! However, the jump to bashing of Bluesky on some of these posts before seeming to have attempted any action to resolve the issue with them directly or even doing a simple search on Google or Bluesky's help page can call into question the intent of those posting.
Coming here to rant and/or to ask why it happened or what to do seems akin to having your credit card declined due to a temporary fraud hold but rather than contacting your CC company, posting on mastercard claiming they are discriminating against meat purchases, or asking other cardholders why it happened to you specifically, or whether you should just resign yourself to getting a new credit card with a different bank.
IDK, why not... ya know... ask... your provider??
Reddit does not have a crystal ball to tell you why your account was suspended or your post blocked. If you did not receive any notification email from Bluesky, the only thing anyone can do is follow Bluesky's instructions for contacting them directly about moderation actions and appeals (see info at top).
Bluesky is a young platform dealing with the sudden onslaught of millions of users, some portion of which are likely there just to cause trouble. With only 21 employees, they are likely using automated tools for Trust & Safety, which means there's always a risk of innocent users getting caught up in automated moderation actions. They have a clearly-defined process and contact info for help in those circumstances, so that's probably the best place to start.

Rethinking CS career options after corporate witch hunt
I need some guidance on how I can shift my career to keep afloat.
Background: I went to a technical HS in the US where I had CS electives, mainly HTML and Python coding. Graduated in 2007. Went to university, started out in CS. Fell “out of love” but really it was probably burn out from personal family issues. Went to Chemical engineering for a semester and then last minute went into Philosophy as a really horrible, rash last minute attempt to try to make it into law school. Then some time after finishing, the job market was insane and my options for grad school hit the fan as there was a market saturation for lawyers… many were lucky to even get paralegal gigs, so I decided to go to grad school for transportation engineering. I’m in a state where there were many programs for CS and transportation engineering to fill the “intelligent transportation sector” demand for software engineers and data scientists. I did this until COVID (2020), then switched to a remote SWE position where I’ve done so many things — Full Stack (Flask), Cloud (AWS), even advanced BI/Analytics.
Had my first kid in December 2021. Was leading a successful product as a lead developer. Company got acquired in early 2024. Now I am watching this product line fail because of the result of mass lay offs from the merge, a change in focus, and chaos ensued after lack of a strategic downsizing plan. The new Product Officer has decided to lead a hunt to cut some of the “unnecessary” products, and the product line I work on may be one.
If they let me go, I figure it would buy me time to invest in a new focus. Whether that’s staying in CS or moving to a new career entirely, but the staying in CS is more practical as I have expenses related to childcare etc to worry about. Just curious if anyone has advice on what is stable (even if not necessarily flashy or high paying).
