Hi everyone,
I recently had a pretty rough incident and could really use some advice. I was riding my bike and unfortunately crossed a red light. A car hit me, and thankfully, I wasn’t seriously injured. However, the car ended up with some damages—a broken windshield—and it had to be towed away.
When the police arrived, they determined I was at fault and gave me a citation. Fast forward, I’ve now received a demand from a collection agency for over $5000 to cover the car’s damages.
I’m a college student and simply don’t have that kind of money. Here’s what I’m wondering:
- Do these collection agencies typically negotiate? Is there a chance they’ll lower the amount or set up a manageable payment plan?
- Do I have any legal options to dispute or reduce this? For example, could I argue anything about shared responsibility, or is it a lost cause since I was cited?
- Would consulting a lawyer be worth it in this case, or would it cost me more than the demand itself?

My store got a new manager a few months back. Was a former manager at another big box store, but is totally unprepared for this role. Constantly talks about being a team player but only will close twice a month and complains about it. Always leaves early and still doesn't know simple register functions as a manager. Always insists on providing backup on register but will watch a growing line without jumping in to help. They started out doing so and closing but now creates a nice healthy work life balance but the rest of the crew picks up the slack. Always is getting the schedule done late, ignores time off requests and insists there is no such thing as a bonus for them even though we all know store managers get a bonus no matter what and a bigger one of metrics are met. I personally meet my metrics 10x over and I get no insensitive to a raise. They have refused my 6 month review and make up excuses all the time. I have beyond proved myself and even the District manager knows this but I get left behind. My direct manager wants me to be promoted but store manager is holding back. I know more than the store manager in less than a year already and it's becoming not a great place to work with the store manager dropping the slack. Started looking for other places to work as even corporate who wants to hear from employees has been ignoring bad situations. Sadly this seems to be the norm at most places in the USA. HF could do so much better for employees but refuse and instead give managers six figures who just oversee continued mistakes. Managers seem to be rewarded without consequences no matter what even though there are so many obvious mistakes. It's typical the good employees are passed over. My store manager made their black Friday schedule so convenient for them but I'm working non stop daily with no break but they get to enjoy a break. I'm stopped caring about ESPs and ITC sign ups at this point. Was doing 200 ESPs and 100+ ITC sign ups a month and now dropped to just a few months as what's the point anymore.
Anyone else deal with this as an employee of HF?

Bem vou dar um mini contexto, no início desse ano comecei a andar de bike de verdade, fazer metas semanais, buscar caminhos diferentes e etc. Desde que iniciei sempre falei para meus amigos como era incrível pela sensação de liberdade, uma vista incrível e ser um exercício.
Meu primeiro amigo aceitou a andar comigo, estava super feliz já que aliás era o primeiro que iria apresentar esse meu novo hobby na pratica. Já havíamos pedalado 22km em velocidade moderada/baixa, já estávamos voltando para a casa, quando de repente vejo um grupo de 6 mlk da quebrada, eles passaram por mim berrando e me empurraram, mas continuei pedalando, quando olho para trás, para ver meu amigo, haviam derrubado ele e começaram a chutar ele, antes de eu conseguir voltar eles pegaram as suas bikes e foram embora, não nos roubaram nem nada, apenas nos bateram sem motivo algum completamente DO NADA.
Estou meio assustado e chateado por meu amigo ter passado por isso, por mais que eu não tenha culpa, foi algo completamente desagradável

Yesterday I was working with a very thin offcut I got for free, just experimenting with different feels of leather really as I’m a beginner. I was making mystery braid bracelets.
I noticed that when I took my bevelling tool to the thinnest leather it completely distressed the sides instead of cleaning them up. They were already pretty clean, looking back I could have probably just used some sandpaper and tokanole.
Do I not need to bevel in every instance? Or maybe my tool was too large?
