2024.11.25 18:21 Frequent_Elk8969 I am suddenly able to sense/predict death, and I don’t know why
Hi, this is my first time posting here. My experience with death is complicated as I experienced it very closely, but not the point I have this year. My father passed away when I was a teen and it was a surprise. I also grew up being suicidal while fearing death. That being said, after I turned 19 I became very comfortable and accepting of my own mortality and it never bothered me.
After June this year, thoughts of death kept plaguing my mind. I kept calling my mom telling her “I sense someone is going to die”. Those thoughts kept going until august, when I learned one of my beloved high school teachers passed away due to a brain tumor.
The thoughts stopped for a bit but they came back in October. My intuition was telling me that death was near, and my grandfather suddenly passed away two weeks later. Then, the same thing happened again and I called my mom to tell her the thoughts of death kept coming back and she told me our great-aunt also passed away.
Then, it all stopped. But last week, I had a very vivid dream of a classmate committing suicide. I didn’t know who they were, I only heard their name. Then, a few days later the thoughts of death came back. Today I learned a classmate committed suicide yesterday.
Can someone explain what is going on? This has never happened to me before. I have a crazy good intuition and had prophetic dreams before, but never around death. I can suddenly feel it when it’s near.

Gang, I need your help with philosophical anthropology, with emphasis on the part with philosophy. What is it? What are the essential texts in it? How does one write a paper in philosophical anthropology? The most confusing part is that we are given a mix of texts from philosophers and actual anthropologists (from Bergson to Tim Ingold) and I have no idea how to do my own research or what would count as research in the field of philosophical anthropology.
A little background: I have an MA in philosophy with a specialization in the history of Western philosophy with a focus on ontology. Now I've ended up in the program specializing in philosophical anthropology (it was the only one available in my home town). The lectures are all over the place, and I have no idea how to put these texts together into something meaningful other than a kaleidoscope of witty reflections and observations. (That said, with all due respect to the authors, I do admire their job.) Exempli gratiai: we've read Gregory Bateson's Ecology of mind, Anna Tsing's Mushroom in the end of the world, and now we are reading Philippe Descola's Beyond nature and culture. All of them are great but I fail to see connections between them and their methods.
I guess my questions can be boiled down to:
-- What are 20 essential books/texts in the field of philosophical anthropology?
-- What contemporary authors are branded as philosophical anthropologists?
-- Are there any western universities with programs in PA? Mb I can get some syllabi from them.
-- Have there been any attempts to infuse anthropology with object-oriented ontology or speculative realism?
-- Anthropologists usually have their own case studies, labs, tribes, countries. Since I have no means to make a field trip. How does one do anthropology (preferably a philosophical one) limited to the scope of one city?
Sorry if I'm all over the place. I'm just stack with the thought: "damn, nobody is studying this thing and I don't want to make speculations Max Scheler style but for any project a la Tsing or Descola I have to have an anthropological method and mean to go into 'jungle'".

Berkeley Rep (LORT B) is seeking an Associate Wardrobe Supervisor to join our team. Under the direction of the Wardrobe Supervisor, the Associate Wardrobe Supervisor serves as a key member of BRT’s Wardrobe Department. They will work in close collaboration with visiting costume designers and directors for each production and will collaborate with the other production departments to ensure that the company’s best work is being put forth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Wardrobe Supervisor in maintenance and running of costumes for full season and assist in supervision of wardrobe crews and wig crews, including setting crew calls, scheduling breaks, and reminding crew to log hours on Paylocity in a timely manner.
- Work with Resident Associate Costume Designer to create and maintain paperwork, including dressing sheets, run sheets, and pre-set lists. Assist with development of wardrobe tracks for each production and train crew to run them.
- Assist with load-in and load-out of costumes. Set up dressing rooms for shows. Pull and pack costumes for transport to shop during tech.
- Maintain costumes during run, including repairs, laundry, dry cleaning, pressing, steaming, etc.
- Maintain good relationships with other departments. Work with Stage Ops for backstage quick-change areas.
- When necessary and assigned, run a wardrobe track or wigs/hair show track.
- Supervise crew and reinforce basic rules including appropriate backstage behavior and dress.
- Reinforce crew guidelines and policies as determined by BRT, Wardrobe Supervisor, and Costume Director.
- Demonstrate and practice respectful and effective communication skills.
- Maintain wardrobe/haiwigs areas, monitor equipment, and report any issues. Track supply inventory and order supplies through Wardrobe Supervisor.
- Attend all Put-Ins and Understudy rehearsals. Coordinate with Stage Management and Resident Associate Costume Designer to ensure actors have all necessary costumes and hair needs.
- Attend nightly production meetings during tech rehearsals.
- Coordinate with Stage Management and Resident Associate Costume Designer to arrange for hair cuts and treatments as needed.
- Create and maintain an inclusive, safe, efficient and effective working environment.
- Actively participate in workshops and trainings, including company meetings, harassment prevention, bystander intervention and other antiracism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access initiatives.
- 2-3 years professional experience working wardrobe.
- Strong sewing and repair skills.
- Computer skills, Word and Excel.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Good communication and mediation skills.
- Experience managing a crew.

I feel like I was destined to be a narcissist. I went to a prestigious prep school, my parents expected perfection at all times, etc. I kinda fell apart and ended up leaving the ‘bubble’ of the top 1%, and holy fuck I have no idea what I’m doing now. Everyone sees me as stuck up, and honestly they are 100% right. I had to be stuck up to survive my childhood. I had to be the best at everything I did, or at least get as close to that as I possibly could. Then you get out into the real world and it’s like wait, people actually don’t like stuck up perfectionistic assholes?? But that’s all I know how to be. Literally my entire persona is centered around being as perfect as possible. Who even am I underneath that? If being ‘perfect’ doesn’t make people like me anymore, what else do I even have to offer the world?
