A few weeks ago, I underwent a procedure to replace my existing, broken fixed bridge with a new 8-unit fixed bridge. This was necessary due to a vehicular accident I was involved in back in 2011, which resulted in the loss of four upper front teeth, along with some bone and gum. A fixed bridge was used to restore what was missing, as implants were not an option in my case.
I have UHC and Guardian dental insurance.
Before the procedure, I requested the dental office to submit a pre-determination claim, which was estimated at $7,000 and pre-approved by one of the insurance providers.
A few weeks later, I decided to proceed with the procedure. The bill came to $7,140, and the estimated reimbursement from the insurance was around $1,500. This meant I had to pay $5,500 upfront, with the understanding that if the insurance covered more, I would be reimbursed.
However, to my surprise, when the dental office submitted the claim, the total amount was listed as $14,160. I immediately messaged the dental office with the following:
“Good day [Dental Office], this is [my name]. Today, I was checking my dental insurance and I noticed that the submitted charges is $14160.00 wherein fact my total bill is just around $7200 or my total bill is really around $14 grand?. Was this a mistake or something else? Thank you!”
The reply:
“Hi [my name], Your ledger here shows your treatment total $7140. The charges that go out on claims are our office fee's. Please complete the paper work that Guardian sent you, If they do not recieve it, you claim will be delayed. Thank you”
I’ve already received the EOB from my primary insurance, and they paid $2,000, which is higher than the RTE provided during my initial visit.
Is it normal for the dental office to submit a claim for more than the bill they originally gave me?
How will this impact my total bill?

 | I had a 4 star trundle with the augment and on 5-1 it randomly reverted back to 1 star trundle. Easiest 8th of my life. I am not sure if this is the augment causing it or if it is the 4 star anomaly that caused it. It was fun while it lasted for 1 round lol. I currently have about $156,000 in Sallie Mae private debt (another $77k in federal debt). I’ve been out of school for about 8 years, and have worked in nonprofit for all of that time, not making a ton of money.
My monthly payment is about $1700/month. It’s been that way since I graduated. There’s 7 total loans, and some are fixed interest rates (still high, 7-10%) and some variable (10-12%).
When I first came out of school I was on a payment reduction plan that made my payments like $800/mo and gave me a 2% interest rate for two years. I then was able to get on that plan a second time with a $1000/mo payment and 2% interest rate on all my loans, and then was in COVID forbearance and then went back to school (no loans) so was placed on in-school forbearance. I have been making full $1700 payments every month for about 2 years consecutively now (although I missed one month about a year ago so I’ve been paying 30 days late every month to avoid credit reporting). According to Sallie Mae, I have NO options left to enter any sort of program, as I seem to forever be in a “re qualification period” without any guarantee I’ll ever be able to get into another program. Every month I speak to a rep in the Loan Resolution dept who thinks they can help but then I answer all the questions and I’m never eligible. Sometimes I even change the answers to the questions to make me seem in a more desperate position to see if that affects the result but ultimately I never am able to get the help I need.
The thing is, I’m trying to save for a house, a wedding, a baby, and it’s impossible to do that WHILE paying NJ rent, paying other bills, and also this $1700/month loan. Sometimes I can’t even pay the bills I do have in order to make this payment.
I make okay money ($100k/year) but it’s still just not enough to cover this loan. If I have any shot at saving, it’s not paying this loan. But thing thing is - even if this loan were $800-1000 a month, I’d be in a significantly better position.
What do I do here? Can I stop paying these loans? What’s the worst that could happen? What’s likely to happen? Has anyone been in a similar position with Sallie Mae and had luck?
Before anyone asks, let’s assume:
-Another job is not an option
-My co-signer is unable to help, will not be affected if their credit score is impacted as they are disabled and do not own property anymore
-I have no other means (family cannot help)

2024.11.26 01:30 sadtopography Misaligned jaw after wisdom tooth extraction
4 days ago i got my lower left wisdom teeth removed, took some wiggling and pulling by the dentist but the tooth came out in one piece, got stitches on the site, all good there. Problem is the right side of my jaw (opposite the tooth extraction) has been misaligned for 10+ years. It's usually locked every morning but I can always pop it open, then after that the jaw has been trained through habit to lean slightly out of alignment so it won't lock again during the day. Now, I haven't popped my jaw in the morning since the wisdom teeth removal out of fear it will aggravate the wound site (although, again, it's on the opposite side of my lower mandible). Since 3 days ago my right side of the jaw won't open more than a couple of fingers wide, has been perpetually stuck and out of alignment because I couldn't pop it for a couple of mornings.
Has anyone else had this? Will I be able to realign my jaw to its previous pattern of 1 pop per morning after the tooth has healed? It's slightly sore and sensitive and I haven't tried popping it open yet because of the wisdom tooth, but should I?
