2024.11.26 02:48 Begbie1888 Problem with son's washing machine. Advice needed please

I went round to my son's house because there was a problem with his washing machine and I went to have a look at it. For context, I used to work for a company fixing washing machines and cookers and tumble dryers, etc (I was a test repair engineer for PCs as well) so I know how to fix appliances, etc, but I'm not an electrician and don't normally need to touch consumer units and house wiring. But there's a problem with my son's wiring, so I'm looking for some advice. When I looked under the sink where it was connected up, whoever fitted it (it came with the house, that he's just bought) I noticed that the plug has been cut off it (it was still lying under the cupboard) and the machine has been wired into a double pole isolator switch, which was wired into another piece of flex which came from somewhere else in the house (I've still to trace it back to its source, but will have to dismantle the cupboards to do so, so not managed to do that yet). What I did first is check that the machine itself was ok by wiring up a new plug and plugging it into a nearby socket with an extension cable. All was ok and it worked fine. I noticed as well that the supply and load had been wired backwards, so I changed that around and used another known good switch to see if that fixed it, but it didn't (I also stripped the wires back further as the insulation on the internal wires had been cut where the outer sleeve had been stripped). I checked that the live was actually connected using my electrical tester, which it was, but I've not managed to trace the wire back so I can't check the other end yet, which I plan on doing tomorrow. Anyway, my questions are as follows (just want to make sure I'm sorting this properly and according to regs, etc):
1) should this switch be a fused dp switch, as the fuse on the plug of the machine is no longer there? I've never seen anyone cut a plug off and wire it straight in like that before. I thought those switches were only for appliances that are on a dedicated MCB?
2) should I change the flex that is feeding the switch to twin and earth or is three core flex ok, given that there is only one appliance being used and the cable for the washing machine would be three core flex from the plug to the machine anyway?
Also, I don't know if the other end of the flex is a 13A plug that's plugged into another socket or if it's been taken as a spur off of a socket, so I guess that would change what I would be looking at doing there as well. I opened the only socket on that side of the kitchen that I could see expecting the spur to be coming from there, but it isn't. Also, the earth in the socket hadn't been connected up, so I fixed that while I was doing it. Because of that I will probably go round the house and check all of the sockets and light fixtures and switches tomorrow once I get the machine wired up properly because whoever's been there before has obviously been tinkering with the electrics and makeing a mess of it in the process. Any help is much appreciated 👍

I was just wondering because I saw someone posted that Erik apparently said he was hoping the judge resentences them to time served and they can come home in early February? Is this accurate?
I've honestly felt all along that the most realistic positive scenario here is them getting resentenced to life with parole. Yes, the judge could go ahead and go further, but sentencing them to time served means resentencing them to manslaughter and I just really doubt this new DA (who everyone apparently wants to bring in on the case despite the fact that it's not necessary since this was Gascon's filing and has nothing to do with him) would ever go for that. I mean, it's gonna be a feat if he ultimately agrees to the life with parole recommendation considering the DA's office of old crank prosecutors with a grudge are going to be all over him to pull the recommendation entirely. If we can avoid that much I'll be happy, to be honest.
So I'm a little concerned if the brothers are hanging their hats on a manslaughter resentence given these circumstances. I hope that happens too, but it seems extremely doubtful in my mind.

I forgot to take screenshots so this is basically what happened. I was running somewhat of half joker and pair build, and had the jokers scary face, banner, supernova, Mr bones, and space joker. All was going well, when I noticed that my upcoming boss was the psychic, which meant I had to play 5 cards in the bossfight, which totally ruined my build. So I went for the risky ass play of selling scary face, half joker, and space joker for a joker stencil I found in my shop. And what do you know, I ended up winning the run with this build.
