I used to feel like I noticed it in a real subtle way, that my body would handle my zink intake a lot better when I paired it with vitamin c, and now that I just started taking liquid zink, it feels even more obvious, like I almost want to puke unless I take a high dose of vitamin c with it for some reason

2024.11.26 07:01 Fortune_Silver Heavy Weapons are too weak and need a buff.
So I'm sure this has been said a lot, but I wanted to weigh in with my observations and suggestions.
Heavy Weapons are too weak. Compared to one-handed weapons, there are far too many downsides, not enough upsides, and they're too restrictive.
Upsides of Heavy Weapons:
- Big dick damage per swing.
- Can save a bit of equip weight by not equipping a shield.
Downsides of Heavy Weapons:
- Surprisingly low DPS compared to one handed weapons (due to 1h weapons swinging much, much faster)
- Slow attacks requiring management of windup and cool down
- Cannot use a shield unlike with 1h weapons
- Strength 8 requirement to use without penalty (no such restrictions exist for 1h weapons)
My thoughts on ways to improve heavy weapons:
- Lower the strength requirement to something more reasonable. Maybe like 5, or treat it like military ranged weapons and have two categories of heavy weapons, "simple" that can be used at any strength level and "advanced" that need the requisite strength to properly utilize.
- Increase the swing speed. This is a big one. I'd keep the current 8+ strength swing speed as the "not enough strength" speed, and make a substantially faster swing speed somewhere between the current HW swing speed and 1h swing speed as the new "strength requirement met" HW swing speed. It's fine if that causes them to out-DPS a 1h weapon - that should be the benefit you gain for foregoing a shield. All in on attack at the cost of sacrificing defense.
- Remove the wind up on heavy weapon attacks. It makes them a pain in the ass to use. Keep the cool down if the devs want, but the wind up should be removed for usability purposes.
- Allow Heavy weapons to use charged power attacks like 1h blunt weapons. Honestly, this one I don't understand why that isn't already how it works. That'd make them a lot more useable if you could prep a swing behind a corner, dart out to bonk a soldier on the head then retreat to prepare the next swing.
- Add a strength perk that gives Heavy Weapons a chance per hit to staggestun opponents. This would help somewhat counteract the lack of a shield defensively. It won't stop you taking damage outright like a shield would, but it would help mitigating damage in melee slugging matches, which feels like what Heavy Weapons should excel at. Maybe put it a bit higher up the strength tree - for example, if you moved Heavy Weapon Proficiency to 5 strength, maybe this could be the replacement 8 strength perk.
