As seen from Dr. Achebe's factual tidbit, the human fascination with creating time for leisure by developing technology to do our work for us is a fantasy as old as time. Twenty years in the future, people will work just as much as today, but the fruits of their labor will be greater.
The critical flaw in this idea is that the total amount of work that humans have to do remains static, so more efficient technology will reduce the amount of time we have to work. In reality, we just find more work to do. At the individual level, dedicating the newfound free time to more productive work increases one's income and helps one better compete for scarce resources. At the organizational level, human employees are viewed as productive capital that should be operated at optimum capacity to maximize key performance indicators such as net profits and gross domestic product, whether they are augmented by technology or not.
Therefore, it is unlikely that we will work any less than our maximum capacity as long as our means of resource distribution remains capitalistic in nature.

I believe it’s day 9 without smoking or drinking. Me emotions are awful as expected and I’m facing myself now more than ever.
I just need to rant.
I used to be the guy…
that people went to for a shoulder to cry on that gave advice even if naive that helped others because of a genuine care that was told my future was bright that excelled in school with admittedly low effort that supported my parents through anything that had confidence in myself that had firm beliefs and dignity that enjoyed the small things that could find ways to make others laugh that was known to be social thar was known to make others comfortable
I’m nowhere near that guy now.
Now I’m the guy…
that needs a shoulder to cry on, but pushed all potential shoulders away that is desperate for advice because he’s lot that can’t help others or care for anything that nobody sees a future for that can’t pass classes that were simple before that lost a father and wasn’t there in the right way that has no confidence that has done things to shatter his dignity thar cannot enjoy small things (food, nature, etc) that cannot find a reason to laugh that sees other people with anger that has pushed others away
I’m not pitying myself either. I made my bed and I’m laying in it. But I need to remind myself of these changes and I’m faxing them.
I know there’s a lot more and it’ll continue to unpack and hurt. I’m going to change this, largely thanks to this subreddit.
