Hello all my fellow au-pairs and HF! I saw a post about a good au-pair experience and I got inspired to share mine too since there are many bad stories here.
To start, I can say that being an au-pair is the best and worst thing I have ever done. I am currently in the SoF, I have been here for 4 months and will stay here until end of June next year. The family I’m in is amazing in so many ways. The HM and I get along really well, she is literally like a friend to me and we can talk about lot’s of things. Her daughter is really sweet, even though she is at her worst teenage mood atm (she is 12 years and only child). Conclusion: we all get along really well.
Of course there are two sides of a coin. I have had discussions with my HM and some of them have ended with tears pouring down my cheeks. I have called my parents and said I’m leaving, I have planned how to leave the smoothest, I have checked last minute plane tickets. Yet, I am still here. There are limits of course, but I think we all need to understand that coming into a new family is a very challenging thing for both parts. There will be discussions, there will be negative feelings, there will be homesickness etc etc. That is completely normal. AS LONG AS you have good communication with your family and feel that you can talk with them. And for me, I have understood that I’m in a completely different culture than what I’m used to, new people and new ways of how they do things. But I see this as something I can grow stronger from, something I can learn from. And without the discussions and raised voices, how would the two of us know how to do things?
It is the first time for my family to have an au-pair, as it is the same time for me being an au-pair. Thereby, the situation is new to all of us. We have made mistakes. We will make mistakes in the future.
I choose to see all the great things I have experienced here so far and all the things I will experience in the future. Meeting my HM and her daughter. Living in France and learning French. Meeting new au-pair friends. The fact that they are so generous people, making me feel so welcome into their home. Thinking of the small things. The list goes on and on.
With all this said: I know there are up’s and down’s for both the AP and HF. It’s normal. It’s a big change the two are going through. But remember (from my AP perspective), BE STRONG! Communicate! Try to see the good in the bad. Life is a roller coaster anyways.

Hi yall,
I wanted to ask you something...all the posts rightly elect the 7800x3D as the best gaming CPU. I wanted to ask you though, as things stand, given the price of 550€ in my country, would getting a 9700x on offer for 300€ make me regret it? Honestly, I'd rather save that 250€ and spend it on something else, maybe a monitor... almost 600€ seems a bit wasted... Basically the question is: I know the 9700x is inferior for gaming, but by how much? Because if the difference is small at this point I'd rather save money. I tell you I have a 4070 super and the target would be to play star citizen 2k with everything else.

My husband and I were both planning to find out the gender of our first child with our family. I had a friend make us a gender reveal pie (blueberry for boy, cherry for girl). When she was dropping off the pie she said “sorry the store was out of frozen berries so I had to use canned blueberries” thereby accidentally telling me the baby is a boy.
I didn’t want to spoil the surprise for my husband so I pretended not to know like everyone else when we cut into the pie. I told him after the fact what happened and he’s upset I didn’t tell him as soon as I found out. AITA?

Dear friends,
I am looking to slowly start upgrading my setup. Currently my receiver is the limiting factor in upgrading, so I want to start there. Speakers I will probably collect with second hand purchases. Current setup is a NAD C356BEE receiver with two Dynaudio Audience 52's (which were surprisingly great to me). I love the low these bookshelf speakers produce, but there is quite some depth missing in the sound. Ideally I want to have a receiver that can happily transfer 100 watts with 5.1 surround. All I know in terms of receivers is that NAD is a great brand, but I know that I am biased because my father never bought anything else than NAD. I found the Denon AVRX1800HBKE2 for €429,- because of Black Friday. Any NAD receiver with the same specs will set me back at least €1500,- probably. Can anybody give me some advice on what to focus on? Is the Denon a great deal or is it recipe for disappointment in terms of sound quality?

My dog gets two cups in the evening at bedtime to eat on overnight / into the morning. She usually eats between 11p - 2a.
Usually, in the morning, she'll get wet food in the form of a frozen enrichment block too.
On daycare days, I give the wet food when I get home from work instead because she's always zonked out until it's time to leave in the morning + worried about bloat with her being over 50lbs and playing so hard at daycare.
Is this ok? I haven't noticed any ill-effects but would love a second or third opinion / alternatives.
