Good morning, HVAC professionals. Thanks for reading. I am a layman that has spent a few days trying to learn from scratch as much about how all this works. I've got to say, this stuff is confusing as hell and I have a level of respect for you folks I didn't have before. I might type something stupid or completely idiotic, please feel free to correct me!
So here's my situation. I had an old AC condenser that has bit the dust. (12 SEER, 2.0 Ton. ICP Model HAC224AKA1) and needs replacing. I also have an oil furnace along with it. (ICP Model OUF105A12A) It was installed in 2001, but it is still going strong. I bought the house in 2012 and I suspect they were installed together at that time.
I'm looking to upgrade to more efficient means of heating and cooling. Ideally, I would like to change completely to a ducted heat pump. An important note; I DO NOT have natural gas service at my location. It would cost me like $25,000 to have it run to my house, so that was an instant no-go, unfortunately.
I had a local HVAC service come look at it and the gentleman was very, very against a heat pump. He didn't even ask to look at my electric service to see what level of amperage was available, so I'm pretty sure he didn't even consider it. He wanted to just replace everything like for like with a Carrier system for about $14,500 installed.
That kind of left a sour taste in my mouth, so I thought maybe I'd ask on here for recommendations.
From my very layman understanding of my setup, I believe that the limiting factor seems to be that I only have 100 amp service to my home. From what I understand, when it gets super cold additional amperage is needed to active heating strips and in many cases 100 amps just isn't going to cut it. Now it's just 2 of us here, it's a small home, and we aren't running multiple appliances simultaneously. How feasible is a heat pump as a total solution for my heating and cooling needs with this limitation? Also, would having a split fuel system, say a heat pump without the heating strips that operates to a certain temperature that is then backed up by the oil furnace when it gets super cold a worthwhile consideration? And if I do that, should I also just replace the oil furnace as it is nearly 25 years old while I'm at? Is there some other option I'm not thinking of that is even better?
What I'm looking for is a recommendation on specific hardware that might fit my needs that represents a good value for price and long term operating costs. Hi All,
First of all, I know my count because I used day counter, not because I literally count each day... It help me be accountable and it helps me to stay on this path because when you 'make it apart of your lifestyle', some people get carried away and forget why they were even on the streak in the first place and start dabbling into dangerous territory (like myself few years ago)...
I have been on this journey for years and around the 4-5 month mark, I get really tested... This current streak isnt the cleanest (3 wet dreams) but hey I'm not perfect... Last time I had sex and masturbated was July 24th... So I was able to go 1-2 months pretty clean because I had enough of it... but then you really get tested once you're feeling good again...
Overall, I'd feel like im at peace with everything... finances are good, looks are good, no real crazy trauma... but life still hits you with stressful situations... Yesterday was a day I was kind of stressed I guess and I resorted back to mental lusting... looking at women etc... It is easy to be on your moral high horse when everything is good but when you get hit with some stress or whatever, you go back to your old habit... luckily I dont have a masturbation/porn problem anymore but sex is always a demon I got to face... I do want to save myself for marriage going forward as I made a vow on July 24th but yesterday I realized I still got to learn...
So what caused the stress? Stock and Crypto markets... I have a heavy amount of money invested in multiple different funds but I guess with the combination of less sleep + markets not going your way, I caved and wanted to escape through pleasure... luckily I didn't relapse and no wet dream today...
What did I learn? Learn to really let go... not to be attached to things.. if you start always checking your issue, it will get worse (at least in the mind)... you could always frame it in a different way... I know its easier said than done especially when there's big money (over $250k CAD for 27M) on the line... but hey I am attached to this in a way NGL...
I am currently on a journey on self acceptance fully and really letting go of attachments to outcomes... I think that will really elevate the SR journey...
Just wanted to share my story... Any advice or thoughts, I'd appreciate it...
Also any advice to get rid of any lingering lust from yesterday? I will try not to engage in any thoughts regarding... If a wet dream comes, so be it, I'm not attached... but any way of cleansing the mind after an hour or so of lusting...?
