Do you generally find these stereotypes to be true? I’m noticing an increasing number of billionaires (Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, etc) giving away all their wealth instead of keeping their businesses/dynasties in the family.
I’m sure we’re all familiar with the saying the father builds, the son enjoys, the grandson destroys. Do you generally find this to be true - is it that difficult to maintain generational wealth? If you were worth billions, couldn’t you just put 10-15% in real estate and the rest in the s&p500 so it naturally continues to grow?
Also what do you think is the philosophy that 1st and 2nd generation immigrants who came from nothing generally turn out successful, whereas children of athletes or grandchildren of billionaires take things for granted & ruin the built wealth?

珠海惨案发生后，官方表示要开展风险隐患排查整治，网上流传多个社区被要求排查辖区内的“八失人员”和“三低三少人员”。
受访专家认为，今年多宗恶性伤人事件频繁发生，背后跟中国经济低迷的困境有关，行凶者容易因现实生活的压力出现绝望的感觉，从而选择以“报复社会”的方式泄愤。
翻查公开报导，2024年中国起码有超过 20宗恶性伤人案件，当中包括多宗无差别袭击事件。
11月11日晚，广东珠海的体育中心发生汽车撞人事件，官方称导致35人死亡、43人受伤，指案件是因对离婚后财产分割结果不满而引发；11月16日晚，江苏无锡宜兴市无锡工艺职业技术学院发生持刀伤人事件，警方称造成8人死亡、17人受伤，初步调查指系本届毕业生未能拿到毕业证、对实习报酬不满而回校发泄行凶；11月19日，湖南常德鼎城区永安小学门前发生汽车撞人事件，据报多名学生及家长被撞倒受伤，警方通报指伤者没有生命危险。
后疫情时期经济低迷有无影响 8日之内，中国发生三宗同类型的无差别袭击，引发外界高度关注。独立学者邓聿文接受BBC中文访问时表示，无差别袭击在今年频繁发生，跟目前中国的经济状况有很大的关联，由于目前中国总体经济仍然处于下行的过程中，经济状况不好亦会引伸出不同的社会问题，而个体或会觉得自己无法为力去解决或应对。“悲观的情绪会像瘟疫一样去感染民众，经济状况不好的时候，会影响民众对未来的情绪，对未来非常悲观。”
邓聿文指，从中国目前的社会舆论看，呈现对经济及未来的情绪都是一片悲观的感觉，“如果本来就有气，社会上又看不到希望，可能就会做出这种所谓疯狂的举动。”
今年前三季度，中国国内生产总值（GDP）同比增长仅4.8%，受到房地产市场持续低迷、投资和消费者信心疲弱等影响。世界银行早前预计中国经济增长将从2024年的4.8%下降到2025年的4.3%。
疫情解封之后，外界预期中国会迎来经济复苏，但这两年间房地产暴雷、青年失业率高企、消费降级、股市除了9月底昙花一现的反弹之外基本持续低迷。邓聿文认为，这是一个连续积累的过程。“疫情三年的封控把人都迫疯了，虽然解封后行动没有受限制，但是原来期待压抑了的消费会爆发出来，这个也没有看到。”
疫情期间，中国亦有发生过恶性伤人事件，然而在疫情之后，趋势有增无减。中国网络作家慕容雪村告诉BBC中文，民众会把疫情时期当成是特殊事件去看待，“那是会过去的，等到过去了，我们的生活就会变好”。然而，疫情过后，“看到经济下行，也看到自己实际生活中的困难，很多人这些年的生计、事业、生意都被摧毁了”。
他认为信心丧失是一个特别重要的原因，在因经济环境导致的巨大生活压力下，“比较好的年头里，一个地方艰难，那就换一个地方、换个公司，生活依然是有希望的，但现在一切都愈来愈难”，在失业率高企、难找工作等情况在疫情后形成常态之后，“你能看到这种艰难是很难过去，不是说换个地方就能变好”。
今年的伤人案有何不同 据中国国家统计局公布的数据，今年10月全国城镇调查失业率为5%，非在校生的16至24岁青年失业率为17.1%。从2023年起，中国的青年失业率持续处于较高水平，曾一度升至21.3%，官方曾经一度暂停发布该项数据。
慕容雪村注意到，近一年来网络上的“呼喊式维权”增加，市民在遭受到不公正的对待之后，无法有效透过司法制度去解决，“只能通过网上呼喊”。
另一方面，他也注意到年轻人结伴自杀的案件增加，“官方也没有通报这些人是为什么用这样的方式结束自己年轻的生命，但大概能够想像这些人是因为绝望、走投无路才会选择轻生。”
他指目前中国社会弥漫绝望与愤怒的情绪，当无法释放的时候。“假如那个人不甘心这样就死，那么他们会做什么？”
研究社会发展以及犯罪学的香港中文大学社会学系副教授钟华接受BBC中文访问时表示，过去在中国生活感到绝望的人部分会选择自杀。“社会边缘的人其实是会选择自杀，但是大家都不太关注。”
她指往年选择自杀的人群通常都是没有声息，惟当“个人式的恐怖主义”事件开始出现，由于事件有着公共性，导致传播力度广泛，“微信、微博、小红书传播得极快，他得到了这么大的关注，其他人本来想自杀的，就会想反正都要死，不如死得轰轰烈烈，多拖几个人下水。觉得社会对他不公平，就做了这种事情。”
无锡工艺职业技术学院发生持刀伤人事件中，一封被指是21岁的徐姓犯罪嫌疑人的遗书在网上广泛流传，里面提及“这个世界需要被改变，一个人可以被毁灭但绝不能被打败，我宁可死也不愿再被压榨与剥削，我希望以我的死推动劳动法的进步。”BBC无法独立核实这段文字的发布时间和来源。
这种“报复社会”案件的频繁发生，钟华指背后涉及传播之后带来的模仿效应，“这部分人本来就绝望了，另一方面看到了一个模式，有一种模仿的效果。”她指这种后续的模仿效应在过去亦不罕见。
她也观察到今年类似的案件发生得更为频密，指往年在社会上处于边缘状况的人可能还存在一些希望，但伴随整体经济情况下行，“今年是格外的绝望，会有一种悲观的气氛，很大程度就是他们没有收入，生活上出现一些问题。”
威胁社会稳定？ 珠海惨案发生后，中国国家主席习近平表示要依法严惩凶手，并指示各地区和有关部门要深刻汲取教训，加强风险源头防控，及时化解矛盾纠纷，严防发生极端案件。随后网上流传多个社区被要求排查辖区内的“八失人员”以及“三低三少人员”。
“八失”指投资失败、工作失业、生活失意、情感失意、关系失和、心态失衡、精神失常和年少失管；“三低三少”则指经济收入低、社会地位低、社会声望低、人际交往少、流动机会少和疏导管道少。此外无婚姻、无子女、无工作及无房子的“四无人员”也被中国官方列为重点关注对象。
钟华注意到很多案件的罪犯都是年龄50岁左右的男性，不少之前都没有刑事犯罪记录。她认为这些人士需要多加关注，“之前是把他们漏掉了，他们孤单地生活在一个地方，也不会主动寻求帮助。”目前进行的社区排查，她认为之后需要的是对症下药，为有需要的人士提供援助及制定相关政策。
慕容雪村认为，事发之后的排查是官方为了摸底、掌握情况，把该类人士视为嫌疑人员，“掌握这些人的动向，是为了控制”。而这种手段“进一步消耗更多政府资源来做与经济无关的事情”。
他也承认，在经济不景气、失业率高企的环境下，难以有更好的防范方法，而目前弥漫在社会的绝望及愤怒情绪，也需要时间来逐渐减轻。“在接下来的一、两年里，中国人可能不得不生活在这种情景之中，随时会发生像这种恐布袭击（的事情）。”
钟华表示，目前的处境也是现代化发展所面临的状况，“每个人生活都很stressful、卷、各方面的，生活愈来愈不易。”她指近20年来传统的罪案正遂渐下降，惟在发达国家有三类型的罪案是不断增加，包括由个人发动的反社会恐怖袭击、诈骗、毒品。2023年，中国最高法院副检察长孙谦在新闻发布会上曾称2022年起诉杀人、抢劫、绑架等暴力犯罪人数为近二十年来最低，严重暴力犯罪起诉人数由1999年25%下降至2022年3.9%。
钟华指，恶性伤人事件频繁发生也会导致社会上充满不安全的感觉，“中国过去没有这么多公共类、震撼人心的恶性犯罪，今年太多了”。然而，她也认为短期内难以改善这样的情况，“一是经济上，如果整体经济欣欣向荣，传递的是一种乐观的气氛，这种事件会变少”。

I've had my ears stretched for about 12 years. At max, they were 25mm (1"), now I;m down to 12mm (1/2").
I've been doing some research on getting this surgically fixed and been to two different doctors for advice.
What I'm seeing online and what the first surgeon told me, was fixing it by cutting a triangle outward of my face, like this image below.

For unrelated reasons I didn't want to go to this surgeon, so I went to another one and they said they would cut the triangle towards my face. The reason given was that the scastitches might pull, causing a dent along the line of the scar.
I can't find any clear pictures online where this surgery was done towards the face, so I'm wondering, what would I have to consider? Should I trust this? (They're a cosmetic surgeon in a hospital, not a beauty clinic, if that makes a difference.)
I already asked them for reference pictures, but they said they didn't do that, because it would be like "going to the hairdresser with a picture of the queen, asking for the same and being disappointed you won't look like the queen".

Appreciate everyone has different circumstances and rationales. But it's safe to say most conventional merchants will allow you to pay in a number of ways with perhaps bitcoin lightning being one (if at all).
So as a buyer, what are your reasons for ever preferring to pay with Bitcoin? Considering that using a conventional method, you will typically pay the same price, not be subjected to volatility in paying/ refund process, not have the hesitation of parting with an appreciating asset, get the benefit of purchase protection which card issuers provide, get rewards that many cards provide, not be subject to the spread involved in fiat to btc conversion while paying, not directly pay a fee.
Ofcourse you may either just want to support the Bitcoin ecosystem or you may be a resident in a very high inflation country where the ability to completely avoid holding fiat serves a considerable benefit that outweighs all above.
Just curious what other motivations are involved for buyers in opting for paying with lightning.

I'm 24, I got pregnant at 20, I've spent 3 years being a stay at home mom (but spent a lot of time progressing as an artist and participated in a few shows). My 3 year old can start preschool next year and I'll be a stay at home mom for at least another 2-3 years as I'm pregnant again. I've decided I need to find something to work on for these next couple years. I love my kids but being a stay at home mom isn't fulfilling to me. Once my new youngest is in preschool, I'd love to be able to have a certificate or degree and start a job that can actually turn into a career (I know I won't be able to immediately start a great career, I'll still have to work my way up but having a degree or certificate just helps to get my foot in the door).
I was at first thinking I'd love to spend the next 2 years fully committed to art and work on a couple of collections for an exhibit and reach out to galleries. I love art and I'm good at it. But it's one of those things with no guarantee of a pay off.
On the other hand, ever since I was little I always wanted to work with animals. That was always my dream. Own an animal sanctuary, be a zoologist, or maybe an animal rehabilitator. We don't have the money for a 4 year university. I also only have the ability to do school online (at least for now, once my youngest is 1.5 or 2, I'll probably do part time day care). The downside to that is there's really very limited options where we live for an animal related career unless I want to work at the animal shelter.
So I don't know... are there any certificates or 2 year degrees in the animal field you can get that actually help you with a job? That seems like the route with a more guaranteed pay off (over the art route). Or should I just go for my passion of art and still be able to be more available to my kids/ be home more (my husband works out of town a lot so it is nice to have a parent that's available 24/7).
I think a big stress factor in this decision is my in-laws constantly push for me to get a job or go to school.. and pursuing art (even while being a stay at home mom who takes care of the house and kids) doesn't have enough "value" in their eyes. I know I should do what I want anyway, it's just an added pressure to feel like I don't have any "achievement" or tangible goal while stuck in the repetitive life of a being a stay at home mom.
