I’ve been working on myself for about 3 years after a breakup from a 5 year relationship. Over those 3 years I’ve not put much effort into dating apps or meeting people. I’ve had a one night stand and I guess a situationship(not totally sure if that’s the right term). I’ve been trying to lose weight started at 268 and am down to 193 (still have more I’d like to lose).
I’ve noticed a significant change in how people treat me and feel like more women have taken interest in me. Sometimes I can’t help but laugh at how silly they act.
I don’t seem to have problems with getting matches on apps right now but I just can’t seem to actually get a date without them canceling on me.
My first assumption was that I needed to brush up on my communication skills (I’ve been reviewing articles and taking notes of how people react when I change how I talk to them and how well I actively listen to them). This is still something I’m working on but it seems to be having a positive effect.
My second assumption after some work on my communication skills was my impulsive nature (started to practice mindfulness and the 4p system) that doesn’t seem to have helped at least from what I can tell.
Third was emotional intelligence, just verifying I know how I’m feeling and understanding how others are feeling.
The last thing I’ve tried is to better understand body language(just started this so not sure how it will play out).
I’m not sure if I’m coming on too strongly or if I’m missing something else. I feel like I start out well and generally get phone numbers, I set a date and time for us to meet up but then it always ends up that they cancel last minute.
Any suggestions or places I should review or look into would be appreciated.

 | I have tried everything. Going into Safe Mode, erase and reinstall Mac OS, use as a secondary test user, and not connecting to external display. Not sure if anyone else had this issue and has a fix. If I let the lock screen be, there's this temporarily wavy flash on my screen before the lock screen returns to normal. I'm rather nerdy. I spend most of my days at home hanging out with the cats, one of whom loves to play fetch. I've loved art ever since I was very young. I have big ambitions to have my own graphic design gig some day, but right now I don't currently work.
I love video games. I got a lot to play on. PS5, Xbox One, Switch, Meta Quest 2, and my iPad. So, like, pretty much everything but PC 😅 I'm a achievements/trophy hunter. I also collect PS1 & 2 games to play on my PlayStation 2. In recent years I've been very casual with my gaming, playing a lot of platformers and survival/crafting games. I'll play a bit of everthing, though, except for, like, sports games.
I love tabletop games. Star Wars Legion, Warhammer 40K/AoS, Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon TCG, Digimon TCG, and Lorcana. I love to paint miniatures as well, but it's a bit of a struggle to actually get people to play with me. Never really gotten the chance to play an TTRPG, but would love to. I suffer from a bit of learning curve.
I love music. Dance Gavin Dance, Papa Roach, Twenty-One Pilots, A Day To Remember, stuff like that. Bit of an elder emo. I wish I could play an instrument, but I fear I may be tone deaf 🙃
I love Marvel. Spider-Man's probably my favorite.
I love Harry Potter. Pretty sure my house is Hufflepuff.
Huge fan of The Office. I've seen the whole series countless times.
I love horror movies and got into true crime on YouTube few years ago. My favorite horror movie is probably The Blair Witch Project, second to the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I watched all the SAW movies last month to kick off spooky season, and right now I'm making my way through the Friday the 13th movies.
I love anime and manga. Demon Slayer is by far my favorite. I also really love Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Digimon, Dragon Ball, and Sword Art Online.
I'm doin' a Japanese and a Spanish course on Duolingo right now.
I love baking, coffee, and grilling. I don't have too much confidence in my cooking skills 😅 But I'm trying new recipes all the time. I'm rather adept at baking though, and I love smoked meats 🤤

 | I've been using watercolor for... ever? But I've always had a really heavy handed approach. I feel like I'm no longer getting the results I want because everything is too opaque for my liking. I'm wondering if I should be swapping over to gouache to get more of the look I'm going for... My colors are tending to get muddy, and I'm using an outline marker a lot more than I used to as my style evolves... just kinda wondering about making the change since I've never used that type of paint before and am sort of nervous? I've worked in retail, accounting, and construction, and I've NEVER encountered so many disagreeable pedants as I have on this field.
Every team has at least one engineer that I started classifying as "nerd-bullies". Basically a nerd that found their niche in this highly technical industry and let their achievements lead to entitlement and condescension.
The worst is when you're in a meeting and the nerd happens to be a higher up manageteam lead, so you're stuck listening to them go on and on about sorting algorithms when none of it is relevant to our current work.
Been at 3 different tech companies and they all have this problem. Anyone else burnt out from these types of people?
