2024.11.26 17:12 Pootvid-19 Unholy Lament, Chapter 4 - Dawn past the Eye

Moving around was hard, but possible for Marcus. Still, at most he could get out of bed to eat the food and water Eugene prepared for him. Since waking up, they haven't exchanged words, or actually, Eugene hasn't spoken to him. Running his hand over the bandages covering his body, he still felt the pain of back then. And the question still stood, no amount of bandages could heal an internal wound. How did Eugene do it? Marcus could not find an answer, nor that he particularly cared. All that mattered is that he's alive. Now just to heal up and to get to work. But what 'work'? He didn't know exactly what to do, just that he really wanted to so something. So, putting the time he has to use, he begins planning.
"So, my top priority is to gear up and become stronger, both require me to go mining. I'd preferably get an platinum sword and some armour, of any kind, actually not of copper or something. But if I go mining, I leave Eugene and Alex- ALEX! Is he okay? He collapsed while fighting the eye, has he woken up? Eugene hasn't told me... If he isn't fine, then I'll have to reinforce the camp first, make the fences and the houses sturdier, agh, I have to make Alex a house too, but that shouldn't be a problem..."
The plans for what to do come to him much quicker than expected, but now, he has to wait in bed. "Screw that." Ignoring his bodies numerous protests, Marcus gets up. His legs are weak from lack of use, but he can stand. Grabbing his beloved apparel, the hood, he puts it on, basking in it's familiar feeling. Slowly he makes his way over to the door.
The outside was mostly how he remembered it, clearly ruffed up due to the battle, but intact. Fence stood proud, separating them from the outside word, pumpkin patch mostly matured by now, ripe for harvest "Damn they grow fast.", the campfire setup looks to be in the best shape, signs of use present "That's where Eugene probably prepared my food." The sky was covered, thick clouds still enveloped it whole, giving an foreboding feeling. Marcus figured that bothering Eugene was not a good idea, so he went directly to the tent where his companion hopefully rested, only to find it empty. "Has Eugene moved him to his bed?" With that thought he made his way over to the shabby residence of the merchant. It took a while, he moved slowly with the state his body was in, giving him lots of time to hesitate. Yet, he could hesitate no more, he vowed to himself didn't he?
"Hi Eugene" a dry voice spoke after Marcus opened the door.
"Hi Alex" the teen answered.
Alex visibly shook when hearing who it was, even from under sheets he covered himself with. He rolled over from the fetal position he placed himself in to confirm with his eyes. "M-Marcus you're- up..." he lit up, briefly, before whatever melancholy befallen him consumed it too. His gaze shifts uncomfortably, avoiding contact with Marcus'.
"I see you're doing well." the young man spoke sarcastically, but still glad to see his friend.
The joke got a small chuckle out of Alex. "Speak for yourself first..."
Marcus wanted to speak again, but Alex continued. "Aren't.... you mad that I almost got you killed...?" he spoke with uncertainty, voice quivering under the weight of the words.
"The hell, Alex? I'm more worried about you!" Marcus closed the gap between them and sat down on a chair. "What happened..."
Alex closed his eyes and took in a deep breathe. "You deserve to know..." He pauses. "I'm...." Another pause. "I'm cursed." He looks like a big weight was taken off his shoulders. "I'm linked, or it's sealed inside me, to a monster, a- a- beast powerful enough to flatten a city." Alex kept going, not willing to lose the momentum. "And it's gnawing at me, wishing to escape. I can keep it in, that's why I have it in me in the first place. But demonite and other corrupt material entice it, causes it to shake at it's bars. The Eye must've had some of it inside it. And that's why I want to avoid caves..." He breathes heavily, breathing in oxygen after explaining all of that far too few breaths. Alex looks expectantly at Marcus, waiting for his reaction.
"I... don't know what to say. I'm sorry?" Marcus, for all of his worth, considered his words carefully, and tried his best to sound sorry even though he doesn't share the experience. "At least we know each other's secret now." he shot a nice smile to him alongside the comment.
Alex was frozen, blinking once or twice. Suddenly he burst out laughing... "And here I was worrying about over nothing..." He was happy, almost to the point of tears. "Thank you, Marcus. Honestly. I know I haven't been the most open guy, but, thank you."
Looking revitalized, he gets out of the bed and stretches mightily. "Here, let me make you a health potion. I see you can't wait healing up."
He was heading to the door, but stopped halfway. "Oh, and happy birthday!"
"Huh?" Marcus did not expect that.
"You said that you were nearly eighteen when you first came here. I don't know your exact birth date, but I feel like enough time has happed. So, happy birthday."
The young man laughed "Thanks, I've completely forgotten."
...
With both Alex and Marcus nearing tip top shape, activity resumed at the camp. Eugene locked himself in his shack to sleep for a long time, tired beyond belief after babysitting a dying and depressed guy, both of whom were older than him. Marcus did want to go mining posthaste, but his wounds were still slightly aching, so he decided to reinforce the camp, clean around and other stuff, not like he didn't want to do this either. Last time he went wood gathering was during the middle of the night, so it was nice to cut wood in peace. Carrying an impressive amount of wood at once, he arrives back home by afternoon and keeps himself busy. Firstly, a residence for Alex, it was long overdue. Secondly, thickening the walls of the already existing compounds, he did feel a few death glares from the merchant's, but that too was done. Thirdly, expanding their storage, after learning to make a chest from Alex, the rest was smooth sailing. Fourth, he built a roof over the furnace and anvil, clearing out the grass they were standing on too, finally making a fully fledged area designated exclusively for smithing and forging. Fifth, improving the overall, he made paths connecting the shacks, the farm and the smith and the gate, built a giant stone grill in place of the measily campfire, not only improving Alex's ability to cook, but also tieing the camp with a nice centerpiece.
"Phew, I'm better at this than I thought." Marcus was complimenting himself, eating a plateful of rabbit meat with a side of pumpkin. Oh yeah, Alex harvested them.
"Yeah." Alex, who was also eating with him agreed. "This place really came together, soon we might call ourselves a village!"
"Don't kid yourself" quips an grumpy Eugene, who has gotten far less rest than he wished, having come out willingly to eat.
"Sky's cleared up too." Marcus directs the gaze of his companions to the sky. A beautiful assortment of stars sparkles on, illuminating the atmosphere for as far as the eye can see. "It's beautiful tonight."
"They've always looked the same." the merchant commented.
"I do think they look nicer tonight." added Alex.
Eugene looked at them confused, for he could not appreciate the stars the same way they have. But stare at the sky he did, trying to infer the same beauty the others saw.
Finishing the food, Marcus stretches himself. "I'm going to go to sleep, I have a long day ahead tomorrow too."
Waving his companions goodbye, he goes inside his house. Yet he isn't sleepy, how inconvenient. "Maybe I should practice with my sword again." Marcus has taken the shortsword back from Eugene, until he makes that damn Platinum Sword anyway. He never gave much thought about how he swung his sword, he just waves his arm from one point from another, but remembering that spearmanship requires a stance and and technique, figures out that it must be the same for a sword. Without any proper foundation though, Marcus can't improve, so he got to that. Remembering the motion of himself cutting wood and striking stone, he swings, but it's not the same, he's just wasting time. At least he's tired enough to sleep. "If only there was someone that could teach me..."
His mind spared him from a dream again. He rests till the sun rises.
Waking up, he greets the day by smelling the air and notices Alex and Eugene talking with somebody, and it looks like Alex is trying is best to hold Eugene to not jump at the neck of... wait, Marcus recognizes that blue get up.
"Willard!" he greets happily.
"Hello there, boyo, just Willy though. It seems you have gotten yourself stuck with a big-headed brat, huh?"
"Continue riding your high horse, old man, the bigger they are the bigger the fall." Eugene tries with all of his might to escape Alex's grasp, to no avail.
"Hoho, whatever makes you sleep at night. Say, Marcus was it, are you interested in buying something? You have that look like you want to ask me something."
"What a perceptive eye." Marcus remarks. "Actually, I was looking if you can find me a sword instructor in whatever city you travel to."
"Looking to refine the blade, eh? You do look pretty roughed up, nature gave you a wake-up call, huh?" Willard checks Marcus out, noticing how he looks stronger than before, but also the fiery passion burning behind his eyes. "I actually know a bit of sword myself, a useful knowhow for dealing with monsters and bandits alike. I could show you the ropes."
"Really?!" Marcus beamed at the preposition.
"Sure, sure, and maybe I can finally get a square meal out of this guy right here." he says pointing at Alex, who, surprisingly, doesn't react as negatively as before. He did nearly let Eugene go though.
Handing Marcus a katana from his coat, Willard starts "First, show me some of your moves." The single edged blade was unfamiliar to Marcus, but he quickly figured it out started swinging. Willard was hopeful, but every swing looked to drain his lifespan with how bad it was. "Stop, stop, stop. You call that a swing? You basically flail it around, and what's with all the stabbing, a sword's used to cut, if you want to stab get a rapier or a spear."
"I, heheh, actually know a bit of spear so I based it off that."
"\Sigh** And I was going to critique your fundamentals, or lack there off, but you basically never swung a sword, have you."
Marcus only sheepishly nodded his head.
"Here I thought I was going to show you one or two moves..." The older man takes off his coat, revealing an well built body, not like it hid much originally. "Get ready, I'm gonna whip you into shape." Like a lion eyeing it's pray, Willard basically devoured Marcus whole with just an look.
"God of stars, Astrum Deus, please, let me survive this."
"PRAYING WON'T SAVE YOU, NOW GRAB THE SWORD WITH BOTH HANDS AND DO TEN THOUSAND, NO, ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND VERTICAL SWINGS!"
And that was only the beginning of the hell Willard was going to put Marcus through. Running with heavy rocked tied to him, pushups, pull ups, and every sword exercise under the sun was performed by Marcus. Hours moves by agonizingly slow, nightfall slowly but surely came.
"\Pant** Another \Pant** set \Pant** of laps \Pant** done." the maturing teen almost looked as worse as when he got mauled by the Eye.
"Tch. I was supposed to reach the next city over by now if It wasn't you. GIVE ME ANOTHER SET OF VERTICAL SWINGS" Willard sounded genuinely angry.
"Yes \Pant** sir."
"Is this okay?" Alex asks the traveling merchant, whom he was sharing dinner with. "This is a bit much, even for him."
"He hasn't said anything though." changing his tone to non-challans, he takes another bite of pork, a great hunt claimed by Alex.
"What?"
"I put him through the most intense training regiment I could think of, but he hasn't shown any signs of protest. He's pushing through these exercises with willpower alone. Looks like he had some heart crystals too, no amount of willpower would've let him to go all day."
"Yeah... five, he told me."
"That little?!" Willard nearly spilled out his food. "I thought he had eight, at bare minimum."
"I don't know, he's been like this since he recovered from fighting the Eye. He's worked all day yesterday too."
"I still can't believed you both lived to tell the tale, seeing how unprepared you were. It looks like it's late too, I should go to sleep. Say, your hut over there looks mighty comfortable, why don't you let-" Willard tried to convince Alex, even putting on his salesman voice.
"You are sleeping in the tent." Alex, brutally quick, shut him down.
"...So much for hospitality." the traveling merchant wanted to look disappointed, but he was used to Alex at this point. "Welp." slapping his knees, he gets up "Thanks for the meal. Tell Marcus to eat then meditate before sleeping."
...
Marcus couldn't have even as much as dreams, he was too tired. He slept like a stone. He showed up, albeit mostly physically, his spirit was long gone, to wave Willard goodbye, before promptly collapsing back onto his bed. He did notice Eugene looked much more joyful right after Willard left.

"Alright!" it was a big day today, he prepared plenty, and rested fully. "Time to finally go mining!" he spoke out, to no one in particular.

Salve a tutti,
in precedenza avevo scritto qui riguardo il conto a marginazione di DEGIRO in quanto interessato a fare qualche movimento con le opzioni. Ho notato che degiro tratta solo opzioni europee, ma ho scoperto (o meglio ricordato) di avere un vecchio account su tastytrade che dicono essere ad oggi uno dei migliori broker per trattare appunto le opzioni ed in più sono anche quelle americane.
Togliendo, quindi, l'eventualità opzioni che a questo punto tratterei direttamente su tastytrade, sarei alla ricerca di qualche alternativa a DEGIRO.
Attualmente carico ogni mese un po' di soldi (non tantissimi) e capita a volte che faccio più operazioni di seguito comportandomi una bella spesa in commissioni.
Esistono alternative migliori a DEGIRO con queste caratteristiche:
- Possibilità di caricare i soldi quasi all'istante, mi è capitato più volte di voler approfittare di alcune tendenze di mercato ma non avevo LIQ disponibile e con DEGIRO devi attendere dalle 24/48h per vedere i soldi sul conto
- Basse commissioni
- Possibilità di trasferire il mio attuale portafoglio sulla nuova piattaforma (molte posizione le ho su TDG)
