I recently completed a "Mahler challenge" of listening to all of the maestro's works in one week. So I thought I'd do a sort of Top Ten, er, Nine, based on how well I think each symphony is summed up. There's no strict criteria, just how well I think each piece is resolved and each story is completed based on the last few minutes of music.
9th: 4th Symphony. Well, one of them has to be last, and this is it. This is the only Mahler symphony ending which I would say I dislike. The Fourth takes us through a serene, pastoral journey through three movements, ending with a nice song. But the ending is more of a fizzling out than the more satisfactory type of quiet ending that Mahler would perfect in Das Lied and the Ninth. Every time I listen, I think, "wait, that's it?" That being said, if this ending fits any of the nine, it's the Fourth.
8th: 5th Symphony. If the close of the Fifth is not totally satisfying, it's not due to the faults of the finale, but the breadth of the first four movements. A funeral march, a terrific storm, a huge, strange horn dance-concerto, and a love letter - any attempt to find an answer to all this is bound to fall short. Still, Mahler could have done better by ending with the chorale rather than a few odd chromatic chords. This is one of my favorite symphonies of all time, but the meat of this piece is in the first two movements like Haydn or Mozart, rather than in the last like many symphonies of Mahler.
7th: 3rd Symphony. At the time of writing this is probably my least favorite of the Mahler symphonies, so forgive me if it's too low in the ranking for your taste. A long symphony deserves a long ending, and this is one of the longest symphonies of all time. However, the "wall of sound" ending goes on a bit too long for my taste, even for one who's a sucker for slow endings. Make no mistake though, this is one symphony that will let you know when it's about to end, and it's a fairly satisfying resolution.
6th: 1st Symphony. An overall solid, decent ending. Any composer's first attempt at a symphonic work is bound to be, let's just say, not too groundbreaking, but Mahler does a great job at building on the symphonic finales of composers such as Bruckner and Tchaikovsky. Extra points for the violins holding out lots of high A's - it didn't occur to me until my most recent listen that this refers back to the opening of the entire piece, however subtly.
5th: 7th Symphony. Here at the halfway point of the list is Mahler's most difficult and most raw symphony. The ending is quite short: start listening two minutes before the end, and one not familiar with the piece might not realize that it's about to conclude. The final augmented chord followed by the operatic stinger is not all that different from the ending of the Fifth, but it works better in the context of this sometimes percussive, sometimes nocturnal, sometimes dissonant symphony. I admit that I don't understand this piece quite as well as I should like, but the finale is straightforward enough and it fits well in my list between the conventional ending of the First and the four fantastic endings coming up.
4th: 9th Symphony. There's still three more to go, but the conclusion of the Ninth is one of the greatest symphonic endings in the repertoire. In addition to the musical material, there's the idea that Mahler wrote this symphony, and the ending in particular, as a conscious farewell to music and to the world. It's astonishingly slow music, refusing to let go, and breathtaking in the best performances. Partially due to this slow fade-out (but even more so because of the first movement), I think this is Mahler's greatest work - but not yet his greatest ending.
3rd: 8th Symphony. Maybe the only symphony of the composer to end right where it began. The final ecstatic words of the chorus, the triumphant organ, and the glorious Veni theme in the brass and timpani combine to create one truly mind-blowing ending to the legend of Faust. While this isn't my favorite symphony, this is the best part of it, and it might just be my personal favorite ending to a symphony.
2nd: 2nd Symphony. No, this is my personal favorite ending to a symphony. Between the choir, the organ, the high strings, the brass fanfare, the key, the tempo, and the last hit of the E flat major chord, this is nearly a direct copy of the culmination of the (later) Eighth. But the Resurrection wins the tie-breaker, because this symphony does not at all end where it started. It refuses to go back, it rejects the stormy C minor first movement, the sarcastic scherzo, even the calm memories of the second movement, and along the way, becomes the first major symphony to employ progressive tonality. I'll be right back, I have to go listen to this one again.
1st: 6th Symphony. If you've listened to the First, Second, and Fifth, you might expect this piece to end in a major key. After all, the first movement ended in A major, right? Surely eighty minutes of turmoil and grief will be worth it in the end, right? But as the piece reaches its final few bars, we begin to realize it can't possibly be so. Is the piece Tragic because it had to end that way, or because it didn't have to, and yet did? As the final movement fizzles out, we think we're in the clear, tired, beaten, but at least it's over. However, if the Second and Eighth hit you over the head with their majesty, this one stabs you in the back with the greatest jumpscare in musical history - before fizzling out once again, the timpani pattering away at that pervasive rhythmic motif, refusing even to give us the decency of ending on a simple minor chord. A dull thud by the strings, and it's all over. Devastating.
For me, one of the greatest things about Gustav Mahler as a composer is that he never wrote the same piece twice. If you don't like the Third or don't understand the Seventh, don't fear! You can always try another symphony (or a song cycle, or a cantata, or even a piano quartet) - as a whole, they're outstanding! We all know we play this game because of LUDOPATHY, because of the card system, even if we don't want to admit it. I have placed two orders over the last few weeks and both have had problems. I ordered DDR light enhancement kit with an estimated ship date that came and passed. I was able to cancel online but never refunded the charge. Then I just received my order for a RM1200 Shift with braided cable combo which had no cables at all. No traditional/stock cables and no braided cables. Tried to call someone and they have no telephone support. I tried to live chat someone and they have no live chat so it turns into a back and forth email over several days. Quite disappointed and will not be buying direct again.

Good day to everyone, and please forgive the ignorance of my post. I'm doing a 2d flooding simulation short video of a village for a Disaster Management class, and I'm in need of advice concerning how to do so using SketchUp and Canva (it's the free versions, though, since I cannot afford to pay at this time).
I'm a complete newbie to both programs and I'm terribly oversaturated by the many YouTube videos without a proper guide.
Advice and alternative suggestions for other programs with easier learning curves are welcome.

2024.11.26 23:40 pillsandpotionz "Memory card has been removed" after sleep - also mounting clarification
After waking my system the memory card had apparently been removed, so I turned it off, took the SD2Vita out, back in and rebooted it, weirdly only some games and homebrew apps came back, refreshed livearea and everyth came back though along with the stock little big planet
Ive noticed in VitaShell that it now reads "Mount gamecard as ux0", is this because it had "been removed", or have I forgotten everything about vita storage? I've used storagemgr plugin for the SD card, I've forgotten I've I'm to do anything once it's back in after being taken out (this also applies to the PSTV, when I put the SD card in, must I mount it, or is it readble due to the plugin, and I only need to mount when I'm viewing using PC/FTP?)

EVERY time i play against a good zarya i get destroyed. They are always max charge and melt me while i seem to do little to no dmg.
Ive lost count of the amount of games ive lost where im doing great as Rein or DVA we win first round then they swap to Zarya and its a complete 180. I just cant compete with them no matter who i play

Hello, I'm new at PngTubing and I was looking for a solution to control my PNGTuber + avatar with shortcuts.
Now in Veadotube mini I can create a state with mouth open that I can then enable with a shortcut, so when I want to talk I press the shortcut it switches to the state with open mouth and then my avatar appears to be talking. How do I reproduce this with PNGTuber +?
In PNGTuber+ there is a feature called costume which I can use to change states, so for example costume 3 changes the mouth and eye sprites and when I talk it activates the mouth open.
Is there anyway to only activate open mouth with a shortcut like in Veadotube mini?

for context i am a woman too
around a year ago we met in a group chat and she immediately sparked my interest. once again she moved from the states here to europe to get away from her abusive father. she embodied all the traits i wanted in my partner. her being a traditional, straight, christian woman i chose not to pursue her. being raised mormon she went through a lot. she never liked anyone romantically and just thought she'd have to find a decent guy and push out hid kids. i saw so much more in her.
the first time we called i was a total mess. turns out she viewed me as the "perfect man" for her and told a mutual acquaintance she wants my kids lol. just after 3 days on the phone we knew this needs to stop as "it won't go anywhere". she folded after 3 days and reached out again, i couldn't have been happier. a few weeks later it was me who pulled the plug. i couldn't stand the in between, nothing moving anywhere. turns out when she told me THREE TIMES that she wants to be with me and we figure out the rest she actually meant it. it took me 11 days to come back to her. i realized it wasn't her presence that made me suffer, it was her not being present in the way i craved her to be. once again she stated that "this won't go anywhere". i didn't care, i was just happy to have her back. of course that sentiment didn't last long.
we've been a thing for a bunch of months now. it hasn't been picture perfect but we are so good for eachother. it isn't even perfect, there were some big bumps on the road in such a short amount of time but we are so worth it to eachother. through her i recognized a lot of things i need to work on to become a better human and be worthy of her (thinking like that is also something for me to work on) and she learned how love is actually supposed to be like. how it's supposed to feel like, how it's like being loved unconditionally. everything about me excites her and each of her excitements makes my heart melt. such a sweet girl. i can't go much into detail, it's unexplainable. i guess when you know you just know.
she has been staying at her uncle's, her father's brother's house. in an earlier escape from her father some years ago she got into some trouble. that trouble now came in form of her stalker and once again found her at her uncle's place. her uncle called her father, told him about the incident and also told him about me. she told him about me some months ago while being emotional about me, she needed someone to vent to and couldn't think straight. her mormon uncle wasn't the best choice.
her father will fly out from the united states to get her back this week. we don't know when. her other aunt will have to stay at their place, the dad will probably do something to her. he threatened to shoot her dogs if she doesn't comply and tries to run away, otherwise she would be at my place already. he has done far worse so she doesn't doubt he would do that too.
ig this is how it ends. i've been switching from being numb to crying for some hours now. the life we imagined for ourselves, the happiness we got used to. just yesterday we were excited to play board games or cards together in our home, how i would make fun of our kids or not let her dog sleep in our bed out of jealousy. just for her to be ripped away from my arms like that. just now she said "i would have been a good wife" and it shattered my heart once again.
once she is back to the states i don't feel like i can keep talking to her. our contact would decrease drastically for obvious reasons but i don't feel like i can take it. it feels like back then when i left her because we were at a standstill, i fear it's the same. but after having her like i had her, i can't imagine hearing from her once a day or so, it's almost teasing. it really feels like the end.
i feel like i am missing something, some way out of this mess as i've found it before every single time. we used to divide our timeline in before and after THE break, before and after we thought this will end. now we are back to "this will end". during the OG "it will end", she said that "[this] will keep falling apart. this feels like a terminal illness" and that's how i've felt since last night when she told me her uncle probably called her dad. we both knew it's over. even while she is still present, i feel like i am talking to a ghost. i can't express any emotions to her, i will probably break down trying to talk or even think about putting them into words. i'm scared i'm stalling and will waste precious time where i could tell her one last time how much she means to me.
