2024.11.27 04:40 Low-Resident-6275 Air Vent Mold?
Visiting my parents house for Thanksgiving and noticed the vent in the room I'm staying in looked weird. My parents aren't exactly in a financial position to get someone over to test for mold, so I'm wondering if this is mold or just some sort of built up dirt. Mom says its a bunch of dirt but I'm not exactly sure. For reference, the room is on the bottom floor and there is a window in the room thats often left open (with North Carolina weather).

2024.11.27 04:40 NahRoleplay Heavy mains are the most oppressed minority
This post goes over what I believe to be the shortcomings of Heavy in the current state of TF2, and why he sees little play compared other power classes. This isn't a call to action, just a write up of troubles us Heavies have to deal with that I think makes players avoid picking him.
Obviously, The Heavy class was created to have some unavailable hangups to balance him. Namely, his slow deployment speed and how vulnerable he as a result to bad positioning or planning. These are what makes The Heavy balanced so I won't talk about them. But after almost two decades of TF2, I think these hangups have gotten much worse.
Despite this, there were a few items introduced to help with some with some of these hangups. Specifically, his slow deployment.
THE NERFS
The Meet Your Match update, AKA Valve approved sixes for no one. Because nobody plays it, save for the last Sniper aim-bot who ponders the meaning of his existence and purpose in an empty game of competitive turbine.
Allegedly, The Gloves of Running Urgently was nerfed because competitive TF2 players complained about Heavies rolling out too fast. And thank GOD they did. If people actually played Heavy in sixes, he'd be far too powerful. I want the address of whoever complained about the GRU in sixes, just keep the old GRU and ban it like you do everything else. But no, if comp players can't have fun, that means now me and Pedro.rodriguez.2014 (the only other heavy main) can't have fun either.
To be fair, Highlander people also complained, apparently. I'm sure the Heavy main their legally required to bring to games is heartbroken by this betrayal. You know, when he isn't busy swapping teams every time he dies so both Highlander teams have one.
So thanks to sweats, we now have this abomination. Sure you can reach mid faster, and you can get to spawn quicker too when you die immediately from having less health then a scout. What's the point of rolling out quicker as heavy when I'm not heavy when I get there. I'm fucking medium.
I don't even think the new GRU is that bad or too different. It's just that the health drain does so much psychological damage to the user that it isn't worth it. Considering how long it takes to regen the health you lost and how crippled you feel if you even attempt to fight before that, it's too much hassle for me and I think many others to use.
The killed the eviction notice too because I don't know. I'll run you through the hypothetical scenario where this item might be broken. Say you're heavy with the eviction notice and you see a Pyro who just installed the game yesterday. He's running back to point because he forgot what team he's on, and you chase him. You start wailing on the guy with the eviction notice, he doesn't notice at all because this weapon does fucking no damage but you DO get the speed boost. Meaning you can get to mid faster because yeah just fuck off.
These nerfs really cemented the fact that there was little hope for heavy getting a bone if it changed too much. Made worse by the fact that he lost to Pyro (Despite being Pyro's direct counter) in the fallout of Meet Your Match. So whereas Pyro was reworked, the fabled Heavy update is still nowhere to be seen 7 years later. Even then, there's a class that I think needs a rework way more.
NERF SNIPER
As a Heavy main, I've developed keen sniper detection skills. This allows me to notice a sniper from far away and then walk back into my spawn and change classes because my main is now unplayable.
I think almost a decade of no updates really allowed us to really evaluate the current state of the game. Which means we finally have a grasp of how busted Sniper is and how he'll likely never be fixed.
All of the issues that you may have with Sniper are exacerbated when playing with Heavy, especially quick scoping. TF2 needs counters, especially for a class with three hundred health. So let's go down the list. Spy punishes you for lack of awareness, focus fire is a naturally occurring counter that punishes overconfidence and Sniper counters you for picking The Heavy and walking towards the objective. AKA he punishes you for even thinking about having fun.
Sniper counters Heavy so bad that engaging with one at all is not worth it. Obviously you should never be far away from an enemy as heavy, but even in mid-close range Sniper is too oppressive. Mid-range is just a question of if you can finish revving your mini-gun faster then he lands his epic quick scope which kills you instantly. And if you try to get in close, you better PRAY you brought the right melee weapon. Because half of them just make you die quicker. Not to mention, it takes a lot of effort for a heavy to get into the enemies back lines in the first place. Just to have the same fate as if he walked to the payload normally.
Sniper can already deny Heavy from major areas of the map. But not being able to confidently kill him, even at close ranges, means that Heavy has no choice but to just deal with it. It's not horribly unbalanced or unfair, but playing around a single class just isn't fun. And often times, just isn't worth it.
It is also very map-dependent. Speaking of which.
THE MAPS
The problems I have with the SnipeHeavy relationship is made way worse by the map selection. Old TF2 maps like Dustbowl (Somtimes) were short and had loads of flank routes to give players options. On the other hand, a common complaint with modern TF2 maps (which are all community maps because Valve forgor 💀) is that the sight lines are fucking ridiculous. I think most modern maps are designed to be open and long as to accommodate how far TF2 mobility has come. The problem with this, is that open maps mean that little gets in the way between a snipers bullet and my big bald head.
The obvious suspect is Wutville but Bread Space is just as bad and you have to deal with that shit all year. All the doors to spawn are within the same Sniper's sight line, so I guess the spawn room is just my house now. Luckily, if my team pushes forward, I can just take the flank route. At least, I think this is the flank route. Everything looks the same on this map and don't give me that dumbass arrow bullshit. I don't need to stop and ask the mutant bread for directions on Badwater.
Sorry, I just really hate this map. The point being that modern maps seem to take inspiration from popular picks like Upward, but lack nuance or COVER. Big, long and open maps can be fun, but you need to consider the functionality for all classes, not just the ones that can explosion jump.
NEW PLAYERS
What makes me most sad about heavy is that his problems are not only applicable by a jaded Heavy main like me. How many new players choose him first only to drop him after they realize how susceptible to EVERYTHING he is and the lack of independence that comes with it.
Getting better with heavy isn't about mastering a mechanic, it's about getting smarter. Picking battles wisely, avoiding certain routes on maps, and overall playing a cautious patient game. But even a smart heavy can feel powerless due to a bad map and a decent Sniper. Just like new players, it's constantly a struggle to determine if Heavy is even worth playing in a game because of how dependent he is on circumstances now-a-days.
And whenever he gets an item that helps him out, it's immediately nerfed to oblivion because he becomes more of a generalist. So he remains unchanged even as the rest of the game evolves without him.
And before anyone mentions it, a lot of Heavies issues can be solved by being pocketed. But again, a Heavy being fun only when hes babied is unfeasible and AGAIN, reliant on circumstances. New players don't want to pick a character that is only fun when an even rarer character is also there.
CONCLUSION
I'm in the minority in which I don't think just giving heavy a subclass is enough to fix him. I think a greater effort needs to be made here. For one, design maps that actually accommodate him. The problems with Sniper can be mitigated A LOT if you just give Heavy options or at least shorten the walk. Considering how neutered his items have become, I think it's the least we can do for the big guy.
TL:DR: Read it fucker. But The Heavy in current TF2 is too circumstantial due to the usual suspects in combination with bad map design and neutered items.

Hello everyone!
New to the New Balance shoes, they seem very comfortable and which is why I purchased some 2002R's in Japan. Was loving them, not even 24 hours later they sole ripped? I can't return them to the original store since I'm in that city anymore, so I guess I wanted to ask this subreddit if anyone has seen issues like this?
For more context: First day wearing them I went to a baseball styled arcade where you can pitch and bat. Looked down and my sole was coming off.

(i have no idea if this counts as a spoiler but i am being cautious)
So i recently saw some gameplay footage and i saw that some citizens were wearing casual clothing instead of the HL2 blue uniforms, having bicycles, pets and whatnot.
Is this due to technological advances so this is the "definitive" edition of the citizens or did the combine generalize clothing and restricted free will up until the point of hl2?
