The story follows this kid who gets the classic family tree assignment in school so like her project requires her to trace her family tree back to her great-great-grandmother at least. and the further she gets into the research of the project the more she finds out about her grandmother being a total badass
Her grandmother was closeted a trans man who grew up in the 30s/40s so the World War II era and she like hated her husband and openly admit that to him, in public. She would also like constantly question God and religion, just loved to piss off her parents
The POV alternates between two perspectives: the kid in modern-day and the grandmother’s life, which is revealed to us through passages from her journals, but like readers dont get the linear story line, they kinda have to piece it together.
And yes, the title is a John Mulaney reference, i like to think I'm funny

So I was watching S2E6 of The Bear and I couldn't help smiling to myself the whole time, watching Tina's journey of getting to work at Beef. Her backstory was truly a reflection of how the universe always knows best. When Tina was retrenched and was searching like crazy for a new job, and then her one hope of getting an interview was fucked, I felt so bad for her. But the moment she saw that the bus was going to be delayed 35 minutes as she was waiting to get home after the fucked interview that didn't happen, I was just smiling away. I was just thinking to myself (and lol-ing!) "that's a sign from the universe, girl!" Sure enough (and of course it was a clear and evident classic TV show foreshadowing) that led her to Beef where she stumbled upon the job that she was going to be in forever, vibing with a bunch of folks who later becomes her tribe. Yes!! I was just cheering and giggling the whole time as the episode wrapped. It was like a reminder to me to not stop believing! That the universe always knows best and has our back, so trust it even when everything looks like it's falling to shit, in our limited human understanding! Keep being grateful for every good and "bad" moment happening in your life, y'all!! The universe knows best so keep trusting!!! :)

You can come here at your weakest point looking for one comment of support and people will tell you you should be paying rent. You need to talk to them. NO. Just because you just came home from college and are looking for work while living with your parents doesn't give them the right to abuse or mistreat you. Paying my abusers rent and talking to them will not fix anything besides setting me further back from leaving. Also I dont believe in making your children pay rent and neither does my family.
People are replying to my posts suggesting I pay my parents rent and my living situation will improve. No it will not. 1, me paying rent to my abusers doesn't come with an apology from them. At that point I would just be filling their pockets with cash while I miss out on my savings fund. Anybody can be abused by anyone just because you're older doesn't mean you're excused from said abuse. People insisting you need to pay your abusers rent because you're a young adult living in your childhood home are either crazy, have been abused themselves and dont realize or are trolling.
