2024.11.27 13:00 tropicalswisher I’m back, again asking about pinned/fixed connections.
I am doing repairs for some forklift damaged W shaped columns in a warehouse. The base of the column is bolted into the slab and welded to the baseplate. The top is welded to the bottom of the roof girder (tapered beam for a PEMB). I have no drawings giving any kind of details, and have little info about the roof framing. Looks like a typical PEMB, tapered girders with C shaped purlins, but I have no dimensions. Solely going off of a site visit making observations from the ground.
I am pretty sure the base of the column is fixed, but I’m unsure about the top connection. Would the roof framing as a whole be laterally restrained to the degree that the top of the column could be considered fixed?
