2024.11.27 17:50 Equivalent-Front-285 Teaching in Japan with body modifications
I've got my heart set on teaching in Japan - I'm going to apply for JET next year. I know I have the temperament and skills to do a great job but the only problem is my appearance. I was heavily into the metal scene in my early 20s and have tattoos on both of my forearms and gauged ears to 10mm. For those not familiar with ear stretching, this is not a large size, but the holes are clearly visible when not wearing jewellery. I know that tattoos must be covered at all times and I am fine with this -I have plenty of long-sleeve shirts! The ear piercings will be harder to hide though, so I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and have the surgical procedure to have them closed up. I really don't mind doing this, its just the cost involved that is prohibitive. Has anyone had any experience with teaching with tattoos/piercings? Will my application be rejected outright if these are visible? Please let me know your thoughts.
P.S. If you're going to berate me for my poor life choices, please don't bother. I will pursue this dream regardless of whether its a pipe dream or not.

I want to have a good faith discussion about Viktor changes
First I do agree Viktor got changed and he doesnt feel like the old Viktor anymore, both lore and appearance wise.
But I think the change needed to happen. I see a lot of people wanting the metal cyborg Viktor vibes, not the magical Viktor. But that only works if you think about Viktor in a vacuum.
Riot is thinking about the bigger picture. They have plans for an MMO, more series about Runeterra etc. They need a unified coherent universe where all characters fit in a logical way.
The old Viktor was more like a Marvel villain than a Runeterra character. Piltover is a steampunk vibes city, it doesnt have sci-fi laser technologies or cyborg humans. It does have hextech, but hextech at its core is arcane/magic and hextech is just technology trying to tame the magic. Viktor how hes portrayed in league seems out of place in Runeterra.
He originally was created in 2012 it was a different time and Riot had no bigger idea and they were just releasing random concepts that felt cool. So at that time Viktor made a lot of sense and he had a cool design. They just slapped hextech onto him to explain his technologies. Over the years lore was developed and added to him, but to me that doesnt fix the underlying issue that his design is just unfitting of Runeterra.
Viktor is the inventor of hextech together with Jayce, so he plays a crucial role in arcane as well as Piltovers history. If you make Viktor all about machines, body mods and technology then it turns the whole Piltover into cyborg sci-fi vibe. Runeterra is a magical universe and hextech is not science, its magic tamed by technology. If Viktor was some smaller character, who was just a crazy scientist who mods his and others bodies it could work. But not as a main character and as an impactful figure in Piltovers history. With the series Riot deeply explores hextech and Viktor as its creator is at the front of it. Hes still the smart innovator, seeking to remove pain and suffering he has strong and very idealistical ideas. He fuses and becomes one with Hextech, that of course makes him magical because the core of hextech is arcane (magic). But his general goals to achieve perfection remain. His glorious evolution is not the same in arcane as his old lore, but thats because you cant have that in the runeterra universe it would just feel out of place.
Riot had a choice to change the whole vibe and idea of Piltover or change some characters to fit in. Of course the second option is more reasonable. They also could have removed Viktors role in the Piltover as the creator of hextech and have some other character explore hextech, that also seems like a bad choice to me. Changing the vibe of Viktor from mechanical cyborg to magical hextech/technology being seems more reasonable since they kept most of his vital roles in Piltover intact.
Its just a really really hard problem to solve, how to include all league champions in the Runeterra while keeping everyone as close to their original designs and ideas. Some designs just dont work and need to be changed. I feel bad for the old Viktor being gone, but it was inevitable and would have happened sooner or later.
He needed a VGU update and rework/modernization, but its a waste of time to do that to a character that doesnt fit into the world well. Now with the changes Viktor will probably get way more love from Riot.
The current changes being done to his model in league are horrible, but hopefully theyre not final and some more work will get done. I strongly believe that generally lore wise this is a good path, but needs way more work on the league of legends part.
I am willing to have my opinion changed so do give me pushback or more insight on stuff I have not considered. Maybe some of you have a good way to implement Viktor in Runeterra in a better way?

Wondering how to get your veggies into your diet when they’re on sale but worry about food waste when your cooking isn’t spot on?
The 20$ non stick wok pan we picked up at TJ Maxx has cut down our veggie waste. We don’t burn as much being busy parents around meal time as we did in the oven or air fryer to start. It is a quick cooking method so we can get over the mental block of other cooking styles taking too long and letting our veg go to waste.
Been a big fan of casually checking TJ maxx and other discount stores for cooking needs, just get an idea of what you need and market prices to ensure you’re actually getting a deal. My friend beat me to a la crusette enameled fry pan for 1/8 the normal cost because it had a scratch on the outside.
So if you see a wok at your discount store, give it a chance.
