I think the biggest issue was that that it was about two years between MK11 and MK1. And considering how ambitious fighting games are nowadays, they definitely need more than a few years for that.
Just on gameplay alone, MK11 and MK1 are so vastly different that of course they weren’t gonna have much time for other stuff if the main focus was trying to make the base gameplay as good as possible.
I think MK1 is a good start in the right direction, at least gameplay wise. A more fast paced system with stuff like air combos is pretty good, even if the kameo system is underwhelming.
(Personally, like a focus on tag team or bring back variations like in MKX would be my suggestion.)
Story wise… ehhhh.
I don’t hate the changes in the story like most people, and I was even fine with Khalid Reigns for the most part, but man is the story for both mid as fuck.
Maybe a few more lead writers would help. They kinda are stuck with the new timeline for the time being, but I feel like we can still get something interesting out of that.
Definitely enjoy the direction of incorporating stuff from the 3D era, that’s pretty good. If there is a bit more focus on that and maybe incorporate some new stuff, it should be good.
But biggest of all, if we want a game that’s going to have 3 or so years of dlc and support, you need to make a better landing on the first go.
The next game, give NRS like 3 or 4 years before it comes out.
Let’s not try to rush things this time.

7 months ago I had a very tough night when I found out that my boyfriend of 2 years had cheated on me some months ago and I was hit so hard. My ex had cheated on me and it had traumatised me so much that this just opened up all my wounds immediately so I needed my bffs more than ever but I didn’t have the energy to repeat my words again and again so I just vented in a long text and sent it to them that morning and all of them were super supportive and did their best to be there for me. I initially didn’t send this message to this friend in question because she was already going through a tough time. Her father had been sick and in and out of the hospital for 2 years and he had passed away 6 months prior. Yes they were kind of expecting this but it was still absolutely devastating and he was a great great person. It was too painful. I really felt and still feel for her.
Some time after we were chit-chatting casually and I briefly mentioned what happened. She got curious and asked questions, so I just forwarded the long text I sent to my other friends since it was everything I could tell and I was still hurting to write all that again. And that was it. That was the end of our conversation and we never spoke again until now since 7 months. I am seeing from her stories and snaps that she is enjoying her life, going on trips with her friends, concerts, hikes, you name it. And I am so happy for her that she is healing from her pain and finding reasons to smile again.
However, I was never able to understand why she never wanted to check how I have been feeling. Nothing. I understand maybe at the time it was hard for her to deal with this, but it has been months and I know that she is not at a desperate spot, so I really feel like she could at least ask me how I am now. Yeah maybe she didn’t have the strength at the time and maybe she feels ashamed or so that she didn’t respond at all, but we are/were veery close friends so I would absolutely understand and not expect anything else from her if she had said at least sth like “Sorry I couldn’t deal with that but I hope you are doing okay” or so, I mean a clue that she actually cared about my pain. Of course I can never no way compare it to the pain she felt. But is it too much to expect my bff to at least check on me or even just communicate with me without mentioning any of this? AIO?
