2024.11.28 03:50 AlleviatedOwl How Are Enemy Types Determined When Not Part of An Attack Wave?
As I understand it, enemy types joining an upcoming attack wave are chosen randomly with the percent-chance of each type being determined by the current evolution factor.
However, there are three other scenarios I can think of in which biters (and spitters, but I'll just call both "biters" in this post) can also spawn:
- Base Dwellers: Biters that spawn and hang out around their home nests, but do not join attack waves or attempt to create new spawners.
- Expansion Parties: Biters that spawn for the explicit purpose of leaving their nest to attempt to form new spawners. I'm not sure if these are "base dwellers" who get assigned the role of an expansion party (and are then replaced by new "base dwellers" after they leave), or if they're fresh spawns for the specific purpose of joining the expansion party.
- Base Defenders: Biters spawned specifically to defend a nest that's under attack. I believe these are separate from regular base dwellers (which spawn regardless), though the base dwellers also defend their home.
Not the most consequential thing, but I've been curious. I like to build my walls far beyond my pollution cloud so all I need to do is capture choke points to prevent biter expansion, but unsure if/when I'll need to upgrade my walls from 2 laser rows to 4 laser rows (not far enough along to want to set up oil delivery for flamethrowers yet, unless an oil field happens to be close by) to deal with increasingly large groups of behemoth spitters.

Early days for slot, but I’m enjoying my (uneducated) view of the tactical differences between the three.
Rodger’s would in the first 10 minutes of the game throw everything at an opposition. And if the opposition didn’t get overwhelmed they’d have a good chance of keeping us quiet for the game, pending Suarez creating something out of nothing. It made for very exciting viewing.
Klopp has a consistent high press. In his interviews he would always say “we plan and practice for plan A, so Plan A is what we stick to in games” make late substitutions, and stick to the plan beginning to end of games. On our day we would outclass every team in the world, but the style of play, number of games, size of the team, not having unlimited budget meant it wasn’t sustainable over a season, much less a couple in a row. Having no plan B meant that if a team was just neutralising us we’d stick to it for 80 mins before a meaningful change was made.
Slot is similar but distinct. He will wait and watch and then change the system at half time. Still characterised by intense pressing, but less so in the first half. By switching it up a gear in the second it overwhelms teams in a different way. And if it’s of a lower intensity it might be more sustainable over a season in all competitions?
What do you guys prefer? Or what do you enjoy watching the most?
