Hi! Lowkey I know I my GPA (3.7UW) is very much not Cornell Standard, but does my "fit" and rigor make up for it?
Male, International, International “Feeder” (Sends around ~4 to Cornell each year)
First Gen
Intended Major: Hospitality Management (Nolan)
ACT/SAT/SAT II: test blind
UW/W GPA and Rank: 4.06W (Guessing UW is around a 3.7) - Had mostly As, but also a few B+s and the occasional B (maybe 1 a year) (But majority As).
Coursework: Near hardest course load possible in all disciplines: AP Lit, AP Physics C, Linear Algebra, Multivariable Clac, Audition Choir, AP Art, etc. (Taken as many APs as my school allows) (Also taken BC, Physics 2, APUSH, etc.)
Awards:

  1. Four International Art Competitions (Largest One: Placed Top 10 out of 16k submissions across all regions (8 rounds of judging)
  2. AP Scholar w Distinction
  3. Honor Societies: NEHS, Tri-M, NAHS, CHS
Extracurriculars:
Essays:
  1. Common App: (8/10): Spent 4 months on the essay, went through 18 drafts, and I thought it was pretty unique
  2. Cornell Community Essay: (7/10): Talked about being in a choir ensemble (I think I talked about it in a pretty unique way), tied it back to Cornell’s choir and acapella opportunities.
  3. Cornell Hotel School Essay: (8/10): Did way too much research into Cornell’s specific hotel school, spent 2 months on essays, a lot was just rewriting to find a structure I liked.
LORs:
  1. English Teacher (8/10 at least): We were very close, I TA-ed her advanced writing and publications class, she’s known for writing good recs (2 of her students last year got into Cornell).
  2. Physics C teacher (6-7/10): He finished the letter pretty early, I don’t know how amazing it was. We were decently close, had banter, he was my “Homeroom advisor”, I had a huge comeback story in his class (started the class with Ds, worked my ass off to As, and ended the class with B+.
  3. Hotel Manager: He was a corporate representative for my chain, he is pretty high up. We talked a lot during my internship during breaks. He gave me his contact info at the end and we talked a lot, he seemed to like me.
Other: Had one semester of terrible grades, multiple deaths in close extended family (So missed alot of school), ended the sem with a 3.8W, but otherwise my other semesters are all significantly higher ~4.1W (Still had B+s and 1 B tho). Explain briefly in Additional Info.

I’m not talking about misinformation and fake news on social media, I mean when you tell someone a funny/scary/sad thing that happened to you and they automatically asume you’re making it up because they have never experienced it themselves.
My friend does this all the time and the worst part is that’s it’s not even any crazy stories. Maybe I just tell them about how a cashier was kind of rude one time or how I accidentally took the wrong bus, just regular everyday stuff, and his immediate response is always: yeah, that happened…
