It seems that there are not enough materials out there on d2l except for lectures and tutorials. I’ve been struggling recently with just how far I can go with taking some “creative license” when integrating player’s backstories into my campaign.
I’ll try and make this as brief as possible. Two of my players have made backstories that lend themselves very well to my campaign, and could create really amazing sub-plots.
One player is a fire genasi Warlock, whose father was an efreeti. Her father abandoned them when she was very young, and in leaving, disfigured her mother and caused her a lifetime of torment. This player asked me at the beginning of the campaign if he could tweak the warlock mechanics; rather than having a patron, his character’s powers stem from her ancestry (he chose Djinni Warlock for this reason) I OK’d it. He did express that it isn’t super important to him, basically saying “it comes from her father.. or something”. I think this was an easy way for him to go with that warlock sub class without having to make himself beholden to a patron. His characters entire goal is to track down and defeat her father, and force him to undo the wrongs he committed. However, I have considered adding my own twist to how she gets her powers: they do not stem from her efreeti ancestry, but in fact from another efreeti that has its own personal vendetta against PC’s father, and blessed her with these powers (unbeknownst to her) to aid her in this. It wouldn’t affect her much other than flavour, I just thought it would be cool.
Now, this is the one I am struggling with most. Another players backstory is that he began adventuring after his brother was mysteriously murdered. Two cloaked figures appeared in the night when they were hunting and assassinated him. All the PC found was an insignia that had been torn off in their flight from the scene. He has told me I can decide what the insignia is and to which organization it is from. My players are currently unaware of 2 major secret factions vying for power, working against each other. I was considering making it so that the PC’s brother was secretly part of faction A, and was slain by members of faction B. I don’t think that’s too much on its own, but This is where I worry I may be taking it too far: I was going to make it so that his brother was still alive, having taken refuge with his faction.
Are these “changes” to their backstory too extreme? I would normally ask players about altering aspects of their characters lives, but in both situations, they are secret things that their characters wouldn’t have even know about. Is there a good middle ground, or would my current plans be reasonable?

Greetings Tenno! Im finding a lack of fun games to play recently and Im feeling my comeback for warframe. I've taken extended breaks playing on and off for a while, and I think I just burnt myself out when the best rewarding content was Void Cascade going endlessly, because it was something that I really enjoyed doing, but like most things it just got stale because it was all I was doing (right around 9 months ago I think). I really enjoy farming and play Warframe in the style like a grindy MMO, and I prioritize playing to get things like relics and arcanes to sell for plat. Im MR 28 or so, have all the main quests done. I came back for Koumei's update and played for a couple hours but then haven't played since. For someone like me, what's really changed in the space of grindy-endless style content? Or if the game has shifted away from these kinds of missions, what's the general playerbase up to right now?

2024.11.28 04:48 deewflacko I Was Scammed Out of RM20K: A Hard Lesson Learned
It all started with an unexpected call one evening from an unknown number. The caller pretended to be one of my customers who still owed my company $10k, claiming he had changed his phone number. Since this customer was supposed to settle the amount soon, I didn’t think much of it.
The next day, the impersonator called again, asking me to transfer money to several contractors’ bank accounts. He explained that he had just set up a new bank account and was dealing with a 12-hour cooling-off period. He promised to repay the borrowed money that same night, along with the $10K he owed.
Trusting the story, I made the transfers. Later, I decided to call my actual customer—and that’s when I realized I’d been scammed.
I’ve already contacted the bank and filed a police report, but I know the chances of recovering the $5K are slim. Looking back, it’s clear I was too trusting and careless. $5K is a significant loss, and now I’m left wondering: How do I move forward from this costly mistake?

I (15F) live with my mom (33F), from a young age, me and my papa(unknown age/M) have never really had a father and daughter bond. Last time saw him was at the age of 5 years of age. I had somewhat of a crazy aggressive to criticizing relationship with my papa and my mom was not any better. By much of a background to the title of this post I am posting right now. My papa is really mixed and is black half North/east European and the slightest bit of Arab(Moroccan or something of that region, I only know this because of a DNA test my mother bought me. My papa never said what I am on his side other than black, or white, also he told my mom he has native but my DNA test didn’t show that. I have a fully Hispanic mom for the most part, and I have been raised by my mother is family which are Hispanic. Like so I always now say I am Nigerian which is (7.8%), Sierra Leonean, which is (2.2%), Scandinavian which is (17.3%), Eastern European, which is (6,5%), Baltic, which is (5.6%), Ashkenazi Jewish, which is (4.0%) and North Africa, which is (1.5%), which is Arab because Morocco is not an African country… and so is the countries around it. But for the most part I am Hispanic which is labeled (Mesoamerican and Andean) but still Hispanic, which is (54.9%) the first thing in my DNA that is on the very top. My mom and people at example school or relatives have always said “white girl” to me. Which caused me to feel upset, alone, and shamed. I always hated my blessed green eyes and lighter skin but I been called white a lot which bothered me. Which had me questioning if I am adopted or being lied to, of what I am… So, let’s go on to recently I been called more brown and accepted which is nice. But my family that are Hispanic mostly I am raised by, say I am not what my dad is. Which is not right. Because you can’t just disregard your ethnicity, apart of who you are. Culture of history of ancestors. My mom and grandpa and friends told me recently to not claim the black and European and Arab because I have more Hispanic… and recently my brother(12M) who has a afro but is not African but Arab, is saying how I am not black and how he would be accepted as black more than me because his afro… he says the n-word saying he can say whatever he pleases and my mom says he would be accepted more because of his Afro and darker skin.. she often has told me. She a fully Hispanic, would be considered black more than me. A mixed and Hispanic(15F) which is holding some African in me.. I say back “no, dna matters not afro or any darker skin” she argues with me. Saying I am white looking so how. But she is quick to call me white and would t be accepted in being Hispanic. So I lean on my dad’s ethnicity background which is half black too so I feel comfortable being around black folks. But back to my brother I said “no, I am allowed to only to be using the n-word, for it is not a color of being dark but having the dna that reminds the world of the slavery and torment the black people back then endured..” my mom says “no you wouldn’t be accepted as black because you just too white looking.” I cry to the comment she makes on just the appearance and I say to my mom “no it is dna remind us the slavery and murders of black Americans and African people in slavery had died from or suffered from…” she forgets that. Also I said the n-word and my brother said no you can’t say that… him knowing he has said it knowing he is only Pakistani and Hispanic. Also my Indian young brother(8M) My relatives say “ no you’re only a bit” to me bit I say “no it’s about the reminder of black slavery only black half or fully can say because of their ancestors before them…” Please give me advice to any black American or African tell me below am I wrong or right….
