2024.11.28 09:47 LostAccount2099 Warding Bond, stacking Force Conduit and extra health bars: a love story
I had the idea for a Warding Bond build based on Rippling Force Mail and generating extra health buffers to be compared with (in my opinion) the two good sponge drain builds: the Tigerbarb Cleric and the (bait / tank) Abjuration Wizard. But while theorycrafting I noticed it was difficult to make sure the components I wanted to use worked they way I was hoping.
So I decided to prepare some base ideas and variations, test them and record the results.
Every time I see a new build around the damage sponge concept, I feel the person building it focused only in the DR capability and trying to focus most of the team damage on this character, but they often miss the third pillar os these two good builds: the capacity to restore this defensive power every turn. Tigerbarb Cleric will use their cleave attack with Shattered Flail or Sword of Chaos to restore HP, while the Wizard will cast abjuration school spells to restore Arcane Ward charges. This is critical for the durability of a sponge drain build.
For my build, I’ll invest in Rippling Force Mail’s Force Conduit) charges plus other geaabilities for other damage types. So I want to take half the damage from the team and cut it again before actually taking it. Nothing new so far.
Lots of people like the Mail and use it for a while, usually changing by Act 3 (like for Armour of Persistance), as they look for extra AC or they notice how they don't often see the armor at his peak (reducing physical damage by 7) or for long. Looking at the 3 Force Conduit equipment, you have control for the Halberd (on hit) and you know what to expect with the Shield (starts with 2 charges and add one extra per turn), but the Armor need to be hit to stack means it might take many turns to stack and you might get seriously hurt before have enough. Or the combat simply won’t take long enough to make it worth. So to max the armor usage, we need a reliable way to stack charges and understand better how the Force damage AoE works and maybe how to weaponise it consistently. This covers most important DR.
With all companions under Warding Bond, we are already reducing damage for other companions by half, so we’re covered at the 2nd pillar.
For the third, as we don’t rely on Arcane Wards and can’t generate HP as often as Tigerbarb, I decided to take another approach, a spellcaster approach. I want an ability or gear+ability capable to generate enough Temporary HP every turn, so actual damage will first be taken from it before I’m actually hurt. So my approach will be adding an extra small health bar every turn.
[Rippling Force Mail: Stacking Force Conduit]
- The Basics: you only gain +2 turns of Force Conduit when you take damage (actual damage after damage reduction and resistances) and if it’s physical damage (bludge/slash/pierce).
- A core question was: does damage received via Warding Bond triggers more changes?
- Yes, as long as the half damage you received minus your resistances/DR results in at least 1 damage bludge/slash/pierce to you, that means +2 turns of FC.
- So Warding Bond will lead to 7 charges very fast. That's critical as you will damaged often. Teammates need to be hurt for more than 16 physical to get you 1 damage.
- Sidequestion: what if I have Arcane Acuity? Does it count as damage taken? It does, damage taken via Warding Bond will drain Acuity turns.
- Another path would be to intentionally (lightly) self damage yourself to make the armor work.
- Casting Spike Growth on you, a teammates and pre-combat enemies mean you will start combat with 4 charges. Useful.
- Something that I was eager to test was Ritual Dagger and Ritual Axe. They are early game weapons without enchantment bonus, but the dagger has an ability granting you 1-turn Bless on hit or via a bonus action 1d4 piercing self-damage ability, while the Axe damages you for 1d6 after you hit (and Bane!) a creature. I love this concept of equipment with disadvantages which you can somehow make it work for you under the right conditions. Could them quickly stack Force Conduit charges for us?
- Kinda. As the Mail only generates charges when you take real damage, previous charges (or Heavy Armour Master) can make it difficult.
- A martial lvl 5+ could start combat using bonus action for dagger sacrifice to get Bless then strike twice with the Ritual Axe. Assuming you hit both, you would end turn with 2 charges (11% chance), 4 changes (66%) or 6 charges (11%). A high initiative stat would be critical to make it work and this could mean a lot less damage on you.
- If you're ok with combat preparations, you could also use dagger sacrifice two times right before trigger combat, so you start with 1-turn Bless + 3 turns of Force Conduit.
- Be aware Ritual weapons self damaging can both carry Lightning Charges and Callous Glow Ring additional damage, and Ritual Axe will hit you critically when you hit the enemy with a critical! Savage Attacker also rerolls these die, which can be actually useful (see below).
- I quickly noticed many attacks when I had 5-7 charges did not result in AoE Force damage. What's going on?
- Like the Mail’s FC stacking, this is only triggered by effective physical damage. I was hoping to use the Ritual DaggeAxe, Heat or Psionic Overload, but it has to be physical and overcome 5-7 DR. So I couldn't find a way to consistently make myself explode.
- The best way I could find to auto-trigger semi-consistently is using Ritual Axe with Savage Attacker feat: with 5 charges you would trigger it with ~50% chance, for 6 charges that would be ~33% and 0% for 7 charges. Not that bad if thats what you want.
- The Mail can stack Force Conduit via Warding Bond, but it doesn't trigger this AoE effect with damage via WB
- I was hit directly with Volley, Ensnaring Strike, Special Arrows… none triggered it.
- AoE is only triggered by melee attacks dealing effective damage to the Mail wearer.
- Another very important consideration (which you can't find either in equipment description or the Wiki) is the AoE Force damage consumes all your charges, similarly to Lightning Charges
- you actually end up with 2 charges after it, as you were just hit by a melee attack, so this is counted after the AoE explosion
- this could be a problem as your DR will be greatly reduced
- also, consider the damage affects teammates around as well (it's half 1d4 damage, so it’s a small risky for downed or concentrating teammates)
- My recommendation is: don't take this ability passively. Either stay a bit away from the fuzz (to avoid your cleric to trigger it and lose FC) or embrace it - give the mail to vanguard character that you actually want to trigger as often as possible, a character that would be targeted by a Warding Bond, not its caster.
- The AoE Force damage will carry the usual suspects effects, Lightning Charges and Callous Glow Ring. I tested with Gloves of Belligerent Skies and it causes Reverberation to the first hit which is always a companion if one was hit lol so be careful with it. If you use Luminous Gloves, everyone gets 2 Radiant Orb.
- There's a (suicidal) Radiant Paladin build ready to be prepared around this Rippling Force Mail ability with Luminous Gloves and Callous Glow Ring. Just don't forget to WB them.
I could find 4 ways to consistently generate temporary HP for my Warding Bond Cleric every turn:
- Heroism spell: concentration spell that get’s you +5 temp HP per turn. The bonus isn't irrelevant, but it's not great to have a caster concentrating in a spell like this.
- Potent Robe: In a Cleric / Charisma-based class, this is actually a valid path. With CHA 20, you get 5 extra HP to lose every turn, it’s like free Heroism. It doesn’t work in this combination as I’ll be using Rippling Force Mail, but I’m mentioning as it can work in another build. (Maybe concentrating in Stoneskin?)
- Vivacious Cloak: one of these items most never tried, this cloak gets you +8 temp HP when you cast spells in melee. The phrasing sounded tricky, so I initially thought I supposed to deal damage with melee spells, but after a few tries I figured out it triggers when you spell cast while you’re Threatened (i.e. a position an enemy will hit you for attack of opportunity if you walk away). You get the extra HP even if you miss the spell attack or enemy succeeds in a save throw. Casting spells every turn can be costly, but there are two interesting approaches to explore the cloak this for cheap:
- Cantrips: yes, it work with cantrips, which is critical. You can go straight to an enemy face, casting Blade Ward and now you get physical resistance for 2 turns and 8 extra HP. Brilliant. Please notice if you go ‘melee’ (say attacking with Shocking Grasp) an enemy with a crossbow at hands, this enemy don’t generate Threatened condition at you, so the cloak doesn’t trigger
- Free Recasting Spells: I’ve tried Moonbeam, Call Lightning, Vampiric Touch and Heat Metal. As long you’re Threatened, it just works. I’m sure it would work with Hex, Hunter’s Mark and other similar spells too, which might be great for melee builds (RangePaladins). It's very seems very useful as this spell might already critical into your build flow, so the cloak would be just plug-and-play.
- Vital Conduit Boots: another relegated item, the boots also grant you +8 temp HP when you cast a concentration spell. The phrasing is straightforward, except for: do concentration spells you can recast every turn work here?
- Do not work: (Reapply) Hunter’s Mark, (Reapply) Hex, (Reapply) Heat Metal, (Move) Moonbeam, (Activate) Call Lightning, Vampiric Touch… they all trigger the boots only at first time.
- It does work: Cloudkill. I was sure of this one as I remember checking the logs it's the only of these concentration spells that shows up like ‘stopped concentrating in Cloudkill’ followed by ‘started concentrating in Cloudkill’. Looks like the cloud repositioning was implemented actually as a full recast.
- Not tested: Eyebite, Sunbeam, Telekinesis. Maybe you can be lucky with them?
- True Strike, Guidance and Resistance: important to mention here as they are concentration cantrips, so you could make use of this eventually.
Generating extra 8 HP every turn plus DR and resistances means a lot of fat available to burn. If you play 5 turns per combat and 4 combats per long rest, you could be tanking up to 100-150 extra damage thanks to this cloak and your favourite recastable spell.
Just be aware as you will be hit very often, you need will need to make sure you have at least two from Bless, CON saves prof and War Caster to keep your Concentration spell running. They are low DC saves (due to the half damage from Warding Bond), but they will happen a lot.
That's it. Sometimes we learn something while playing around and assume it's common knowledge, but I believe there's a lot of useful information here about Rippling Force Mail, Force Conduit’s AoE Force damage, Warding Bond, Vivacious Cloak and Vital Conduit Boots. The next person can use it for new weird builds or simply to update the Wiki.
On the next days I will share two builds I've started around the ideas discussed here:
- a Tempest Cleric warding bond teammates with electric fields (so a variation of a very offensive class to also protect companions)
- a Blood Necromancer warding bond their
minionsteammates with power of life and death.
- I believe there's a lot of potential for melee concentrating builds stacking die and using Savage Attacker (I imagine I could adapt my Savage Poisoner with some ideas found here). As I mentioned, Ritual Axe + Savage Attacker might be the way to spontaneously trigger the force explosions.
- I can imagine EK elemental builds leveraging War Caster using Vivacious Cloak to get extra health bars
- Ward bond a tanky melee companion with Force Rippling Mail and make them go aggro and bait looking for armor detonations. A Barbarian with low AC, Bonespike Garb, Callous Glow Ring, Luminous Gloves.

One user’s referral has been pending for over seven years, while their symptoms have worsened, leaving them feeling abandoned and defeated.
And these stories are just the tip of the iceberg.
Dr. Pavan Srireddy, who was interviewed for tonight’s STV segment, hit the nail on the head when he said, ‘It’s fundamentally wrong that people are having to pay for a service they deserve and should get within the NHS.’ This is what we’ve been fighting for—a fair, accessible, and supportive system that works for everyone, not just those who can afford private care.

 | This might be my last time that I bought an LTE watch from Samsung in UK. I can see that LTE version of the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic has received One UI 6.0 in the US before any other parts of the world. If a more expensive watch is less prioritized in terms of update availability and if priority is given only to some specific parts of the world then that's similar to discrimination. The LTE network is also rarely used by people and drains a lot of battery when active. It is a tiny thing for which updates arrive months later. There is no point of buying a watch for this features and geting updates ages later when the network providers finish testing the firmware. Frustratingly, in GBP currency their products cost more than the USD prices. This is a deal breaker for me. Still didn't receive the One UI 6.0 in my GW6 classic and have had an extremely extremely negative experience being a UK Samsung customer regarding watch updates. 31 male 70kg guy this side So this started like 4 months back when I was not sleeping well Actually from like 5 years I am having less sleep like 4-5 hours a night and in around month of July I was not feeling well had very bad shortness of breathe then went to get blood reports where my LDl came to be 194 and total cholesterol came 270 Also vitamin d3 and b12 deficiency found During the month of July I started cholestrol meds and my BP was staying like 130-135 I started sleeping well after that and was not taking much stress also I started taking more veggies during those days and did exercise but all that stayed for like a month or two and also I managed to get down my cholestrol from LDL of 195 to 130 LDL
I left all diet, meds and exercise and a month back again shortness of breathe started I went to get the BP measurement and it was 140+ always I didn't bothered and continued without BP meds
From this month I started getting dizziness in the gym moreover was feeling tired most of times and was not feeling much hungry And a week back it was so worst I had mid chest pain and left hand numbness and headache... Went to see a doc and my BP spiked 160+ Got my blood reports checked and noticed LDL came to 145 Doc suggested to started 40mg telmisartan named med I am taking that from last week and just yesterday I didn't took it and noticed in mid night my heart was beating very fast so I took the medicine then felt relief
Why are these symptoms coming back ? Does this mean I am now life long BP patient Also even after taking BP meds it staying around 140 daily

In April, I moved into in a shared 3-bed from a private landlord, and have had nothing but grief from Billy Bollocks, another tenant. When I moved in, he confessed to me that he was in community service for attacking a housemate in another house. Not a great start... and it got worse. Billy's behaviour toward me became increasingly hostile and aggressive over petty domestic issues - kitchen space, taking the bins out or whatever. I'm a very clean person, and on good terms with my other housemate about everything, but this man obviously had issues with control. He went on to torture me with texts, braying on my door, and throwing his weight about, acting like my dad or something. I continued to ignore him, and this culminated in an aggressive outburst toward me - shouting in my face and insulting me. I reported this to my landlord, who didn't really take it seriously, and just asked him to apologise - which, via text, he did - but nothing changed.
The other night, I woke at 4am with my heart racing, shaking like a leaf to Billy banging around the gaff, violently threatening to punch me without warning - over something of mine in the fridge. I recorded his threats on a voice note, packed a bag, called a taxi, and got out of the house. Billy immediately text me, pleading me to return to the house... while also letting me know how angry he is with me.
After reporting this to my landlord and delivering evidence, he has served Billy an eviction notice. My landlord has made me implicit in his decision, with Billy knowing that this has essentially came via me. My landlord also believes it's my responsibility to contact police if Billy does not vacate the property in due course. Even if Billy does leave, with his violent past, I wouldn't feel safe returning to the house in any circumstance; he may still have a key, and him still knowing my whereabouts is frightening.
As a consequence, I no longer have anywhere to live, so I'm crashing on a friend's floor in another town. I suffer from PTSD, and this stress has knocked my health sideways. I believe it's the landlord's responsibility to maintain a safe environment - which he's failed to do.
I signed for a 12 month tenancy until April 2025, and paid £200 deposit. My rent is due next week, but I want to end my tenancy immediately, and withhold this payment so I can actually afford to move. Given my landlord's negligence after repeated warnings about Billy, in my eyes, I'm in the right - and shouldn't have to pay for another month in a property where I can't live safely or peacefully, a breach of the landlord's side of the contract.
Where do I stand with this legally, though? Is it really my duty to get police involved? Can I just up and leave now and tell the landlord to get fucked? Would he have a case in court for this last month's rent?
