Something that has become increasingly clear to me as this season has progressed is that our problem lies not with our personal, but with our leadership. For years now, the wolves have struggled with turnovers, player development, rotations, and even simple X’s and O’s. Most damningly, we have been consistently out-adjusted in every playoff series, barring our matchups with the Nuggets and Suns last year, where our roster matched up very favorably with our opponents. Our squad clearly has the talent to be serious playoff contenders, but as we’re seeing with the Vikings this year, sometimes coaching can have just as big of an impact as personnel. With this in mind, I think that the Wolves need to start warming up Finch’s seat a little. I would like to believe that, given time, Finch could work out the kinks in our roster, just like he did after acquiring Rudy. However, time is not something we have right now. If he can’t turn things around quickly, we need to be decisive in letting Chris go.

My boyfriend (30M) and I (29F) have been together for 5 years. The first 2-3 years were excellent; every moment we spent together made me think that I had found the one. We had a lot in common, a lot of trust and our communication was also very good. We were calm and happy just being together. Everything changed after the third year. He had a difficult childhood due to financial struggles, which made him take on big responsibilities at a young age and I believe it caused him trauma related to the need to have enough money so that he would never go through that again. As a result, he always feels a lot of pressure regarding his salary and job/position. He compares himself a lot to his friends, overworks himself and always feels like he needs to prove his worth, constantly thinking about work or topics related to his career.
On a side note, he has gone through a period where his health collapsed due to work stress, and he had to undergo psychological/psychiatric treatment because he thought everyone was speaking badly of him, criticizing him and he even invented scenarios where everyone was conspiring against him. It was difficult to convince him that he needed help, as he would always get angry when I told him he wasn't okay and wouldn't listen.
It was a complicated time for me because of the frustration of not being able to make him understand that he wasn't well but I always supported him. He got a new job that meant more responsibility but he managed it well at first, however, his trauma regarding money started to surface. He wanted to be promoted and earn more money, so he pushed himself too hard and only focused on work. At that time, I was going through a difficult emotional situation, but he didn’t support me much, using the excuse that his work and his pressures didn’t allow him to be present and that I should understand that those were things he had to do.
I tried to be understanding, not "bothering" him with my problems, but this led to the situation where every time I needed support, wanted to talk, or just wanted to take a break and do something else with him he would use work as an excuse to why he couldn’t be there for me.
Since then, everything has stayed exactly the same. Every time we are together he only talks about work and money. His schedule and plans are all related to work and financial goals, buying things, or achieving academic successes. And when I don’t agree or focus more on the emotional aspect of our relationship, he says I don’t understand him, that I don’t get it, that these are things he has to do and that I am too sentimental.
The last 2 years have been hard for me due to this situation and other personal issues that have overwhelmed me. Every time we are together, I feel alone. He’s not fully present when we do things together. When I ask him something or tell him something, he doesn’t respond or I have to repeat myself several times to get any reaction. He only talks to me about work, and if I don’t agree, he gets angry. Every time I try to talk about how I feel, he reacts very angrily and aggressively because he doesn’t like that I always reproach him for not being there for me or supporting me. He says I only criticize him and blame him for everything and that I always want to be right.
I don’t know what else to do. I’ve advised him to seek help from a psychologist again, but he thinks I’m doing it to annoy him and that he doesn’t need it. I really wanted this relationship to work but now i wonder: is it really worth it?

2024.11.28 10:01 Edvinas108 My experience using local build server + GitHub actions
Intro About half a year ago I investigated how we could automate my studio's Unity builds using a local build server and asked a question on this sub for some tips. After much consideration, we ended up using Self-Hosted GitHub Runners and have been using the build server for about 5 months or so. Here's what we found/learned and some general observations.
Why not a cloud solution?
- The first reason was that our games take up too much space. That is, in the past we had encountered issues where the majority of the build time would be taken up by uploading to some cloud cache, re-downloading packages, setting up build agents, etc. Even though our games are not that big in terms of size (1GB+), regardless, the builds would spend around 5-10mins just transferring files.
- We had lots of trouble debugging failing builds with cloud services, as it's not that easy to
sshinto most of the available cloud solutions, if at all. Especially when the build fails due to some odd Unity issue or the cloud service hardware/OS setup. - Finally, most of the cloud offerings are just too expensive, especially GitHub Actions. We don't have to pay for electricity or internet in the office that we're renting, so local is a huge win in the price department.
What hardware? We were on the edge of getting a Mac mini or building a custom PC. We decided to go for custom. Our reasoning was that upgrading will be easier in the future in case we need a GPU for baked lighting with Bakery or something similar. Also, we were leaning more towards using Linux or Windows due to having more experience with these OS-ses.
For the build server, we went to a local IT store (OCPC for Lithuanians out here :D, recommend) and spent around ~600 EUR to get the following rig:
- Mobo: Asus Prime B550m-a DDR4 Wifi
- RAM: Lexar Thor 32GB (2x16GB) 3600 Mhz
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
- CPU Cooler: AMD Wraith Stealth
- Storage: WD Black SSD SN770 1TB m.2 NVME
- PSU: Gembird Fornax 960B
- Case: Deepcool PF550 550w 80
OS We decided to go with Linux Mint. Our reasoning for this was that Linux OS would consume fewer resources and also ease of setup due to past devops experience. Setting up Self-Hosted runners was easy, and we got around to doing the actual automation part rather quickly (less than a day).
However, we could not get IL2CPP builds for Windows (note, all is fine for Android builds). As far as my understanding goes, this is not possible to do on Linux. Due to this, we're forced to do Mono builds for Windows platforms. This is not much of an issue for us as most of our games are for StandaloneVR, however, we have some worries about malicious actors reverse engineering and possibly stealing/re-uploading the games somewhere else. Additionally, performance is not as good on mono. We're considering of migrating back to Windows for this reason once our current projects wrap up.
Self-Hosted GitHub Runners The experience, in general, is very similar to Cloud-Hosted runners, except it's WAY faster (performance-wise), and you can actually debug things to a certain extent. We grabbed multi-runners so we could get and manage more than one agent, and also made sure to get local cache running via github-actions-cache-server. For the builds, we used unity-builder from GameCI - easy-peasy to get running.
Additionally, we slapped cloudflared, on top for easy access outside our office network. Highly recommend it to anyone else hosting their domains on Cloudflare, also if you can't open ports in your office/home network, which is the case for us.
Now for the juicy part:
- We thought we'd set this up and forget. WRONG. GitHub Self-Hosted runners automatically update themselves from time to time, which would nuke our local cache setup, and we'd have to fiddle around via
sshto fix things. You can disable automatic updates, but then GitHub prevents you from using their API due to using an outdated runner after some time... bummer. - We wanted to use Docker to set up the build server, however, GameCI uses Docker to run builds, which means we'd have to run Docker in Docker. This is a major PITA to deal with due to permission issues and other fun OS related things (especially once Unity comes into play). We ended up writing a bunch of
.shscripts to automate the build server set up rather than using adocker-compose.ymlor similar. You might be thinking why we're playing Factorio here with our build server?- From my experience, you'll have to nuke the OS/the thing you're setting up multiple times when doing devops.
- For us, this was true as we yeeted the runner configuration more than I could count.
- Also, this is crucial for documentation. We had to come back to the server a few times to fix things (thank you GitHub for automatic updates). Having these scripts saved us a few days as we could nuke the whole thing and re-setup.
- After having to deal with this for a bit, I personally started to really dislike the whole GitHub Actions
.ymlfile situation (that is, coding via.yml). To work around this, we ended up writing a bunch of.shscripts that we'd link in actions.ymlfiles. Regardless, we'd still have to inject a bunch of magical boilerplate.ymlincantations to get stuff working. The actual automation scripts are maybe 300 lines of code in total and the.ymlfiles are 2x the size just for the boilerplate - WTF. - Overall, after using GitHub Actions for a bit, the whole system feels...jank? Sometimes we'd get random failures which would be caused by the actions themselves for whatever reason, where the solution would be to restart the runners or update. Also, even though the runners are hosted locally, they're still bound by the runner API which can be weird and restricts you in how you have to handle certain things, such as sharing artifacts between build steps, how you encode secrets (its super fun when GitHub decides that a json variable should be treated as a secret) and things like that.
- Adding automation to new projects involves a lot of fiddling with
.ymlfiles. That is, we want to add automation to a new game, we have to copy all of our.shscripts + the actions.ymlfiles. Then, we have to make minor adjustments to each file as not every game ships to the same platform and similar. It'd be a lot easier to have some sort of a template which could be applied via GitHub dashboard with few clicks (which was my experience in the past with Jenkins or TeamCity). - Even though we're trying to rely as much as possible on our custom
.shscripts for automation, we're still forced to use some actions provided by GitHub or other users. These tend to break a lot, or in some cases we're forced to upgrade. Recently I had to do this to the cache action, which also caused issues with the local cache server setup. This is annoying when you're returning to an older project and the build suddenly is no longer working.
- Using a local build server is WAY faster than any cloud solution that I've used.
- Price-wise, it's way cheaper, especially if you don't have to pay for electricity :D
- Using Linux instead of Windows is causing us issues, we can't ship IL2CPP builds.
- Debugging failing builds is way easier, but we still encounter weird GitHub related things.
- GitHub Actions API is annoying to use, especially the focus on
.yml. - Self-Hosted runners are janky and will require a lot of maintenance.
I hope this doesn't sound too ranty :D I didn't have a very productive day when I wrote this and probably missed a lot of things.

Glory be to God! So my friend recently joined a “non-denominational church” before that he was catholic but didn’t go to church etc., he believes in OSAS and argues that he will be 100% in heaven. We talked about us and later that day he gave me some verses with his interpretation and arguments for OSAS. I started deconstructing his arguments with other verses or poor argumentative alliances but I am stuck on this passage (translated):
6) A Christian is called to Gloria:
• Romans 5:1 -> "Since we are now justified by faith, so we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
• Romans 8:30 -> "But those he has predetermined, those he has also called, but those he has called, whom he has also justified, but which he has also glorified them." In Romans 5:1, the glorification in the moment of faith is confirmed. In Romans 8:30 this glorification is then guaranteed to all who have been justified by God. This promise is fulfilled when Christians in heaven receive a complete resurrection body. If a Christian could lose salvation, Romans 8:30 would be wrong, for this would not guarantee the glorification of those whom God has called and justified. This would also mean that God could not guarantee glorification at all. To believe that one can lose the glorification as a Christian, therefore, draws doubts both the Bible and Doubt about God with himself.
I’m not quite sure how to point out his mistakes. He is really convinced that knowing that you make it to heaven is the difference between the Christian faith and other religions and doesn’t understand how you can call your self a Christian without having that belief. I hope this confrontation is at least a small step towards orthodoxy for him. I would love and really really appreciate a helping hand!
