my pup was recently diagnosed with cancer (two days ago) and it was a complete surprise. she was doing great, just some swelling. but she’s so far into her cancer she will have to be put down. we’re planning on doing it either next monday or friday as she doesn’t seem to be in any pain and we want to have a good last couple of days with her.
today i realized how skinny she’s gotten. i should have checked her over more carefully when i noticed the swelling and i know that was neglectful of me. i feel horrible that i never noticed before. i can feel her vertebrae and her chest is a little sunken in.
my dogs are free fed so i never really felt the need to check if she was eating. she is eating treats and human food, though.
we fed her chicken (from a canned, no additives) and rice last night. is that an okay meal until she goes to sleep? how often and how much should we feed her? she’s around 45 pounds, lab mix. thank you for your advice.
