2024.11.28 14:00 EmiliaOrSerena Is there a middle ground between all players drawing from the same deck and having their own decks to draw from? How could I deal with the randomness of big decks without cluttering the table too much?
I'm trying to create a game where each player has their own character and moves around a board. Characters have their own abilities, but can also gain (mostly one time use) spells. Now I am torn on how to achieve that in a fun and thematic way without overcomplicating things.
When thinking of similar games that do this I think of Eldritch Horror or Talisman, where you just draw the top card of a spell deck and that's it, that's your spell. My problem is that this rarely feels very flavorful for your character, and often leads to you having useless cards you sometimes can't even get rid of. Say you're playing a magical archer, a fireball or counterspell doesn't seem to fit nearly as well as some magical arrow or invisibility spell. In Eldritch Horror this feels less of a problem, though there too you often just draw something that's just useless for your character.
On the other hand, each character could have their own spell/skill deck that they draw from, and maybe just shuffle back once they've used all of them. This would of course ensure that the spells make thematic sense, however that also makes it way more annoying to set up. You have to make sure those cards stay together and it adds another small deck of cards per player to the table. It also makes it way harder to create new characters when you also have to create a new deck for each of them.
Since I want to keep it fairly simple, I'm wondering if someone has any ideas for that. One simple thing I thought of was a simple rule of "Draw 3 spells, keep 1". Or having 2 different decks, with the players knowing that one generally has more support spells, while the other has more combat spells. I'm very much willing to compromise to keep it more simple, so those two things might already be enough to solve that problem for me, but I'm hoping other people might have more ideas. Overall I do want to keep some randomness there, though I'm happy to hear other ideas too, e.g. having 4 faceup cards that all players can see and pick from.
I'd also love to hear of examples on how it can be done differently! Runebound comes to mind there, too complicated for what I'm trying to make, but I did enjoy that system.

I didn't see much change in my body but then I have a 20lb unopened rice pack at home. I lifted it up and then reminded myself that this is how much I lost. I had gained that 20lbs pretty quickly so that's why it might have been a little hard for me to see the changes but at the end of the day it is a significant change and I am looking forward for more.

I clicked on an insta as for a fake prostitution id (didn't knowit was fake), which redirected me to telegram. The I'd was under a girl's name. She messaged her prices and services and ask for INR 400 to confirm I wasn't a bit or something. And then asked where I wanted the services, I told her the place and she picked a hotel and gave me date and time. I reached at the hotel at that time and then when I asked to room id from her, her "agency" support called me and told me to pay 2k which was the service charge. Then he told me to pay 8.5k for security deposit which he said would be refunded after the service. Then he said that it should have been 8.5k twice for her and security person. I didn't have it. I had to borrow 1.3k from my friend for the first 8.5k and then I had to borrow another 8.5k from him. And then he asked for my aadhar card and I sent it to him with hiding my face and name. And then he asked me 17k for id verification and said it would be refunded within 30 seconds. I didn't have it and he wasn't refunding my previous money even after I said I was cancelling the service. He said refund can only be done after verification I'd. I was scared so the next day I secretly sent him that money from my mom's account and then he said that I have to send 17o twice for id verification within 5 minutes or everything will be lost. Then i confirmed it was a scam. I still haven't told my parents because I am scared plus we had my cousin sisters wedding yesterday and this scam happened 2 days before that. I don't know what to do. I told my bank about this and they blocked my account to prevent any more scans and i contacted cyber cell for this but they want my account number which I don't remember and I can't access from phone because account is blocked and bank is not picking up phone because my balance is too low. My account number is on the cheque book but I don't know where it is, my dad keeps it. I am a 19 year old btw. What should I do?
