2024.11.28 20:00 RunningAndExploding A Thanksgiving Prepping Story
Hope this post finds everyone well! Today I'm sharing a little Thanksgiving story about how prepping saved the day.
So flash back to a couple of weeks, I was buying supplies for my prep. My prep includes being able to hunt, clean, and butcher wild game. Food safety is critical, and part of food safety is knowing what temperature your food is at. Knowing this, I bought an analog cooking thermometer to keep in my prep kit. Nothing fancy, just a little $6 thermometer from the cooking section.
Now flash forward to today, and the turkey is in the oven. My folks are panicking because our old thermometer got put through the washing machine, and they're unsure if it still works. I remember my newly bought analog thermometer, and I prepare a pot of boiling water to calibrate it. Then with the thermometer fully calibrated, we're able to temp the turkey! Thanksgiving is saved, and now hopefully nobody goes home with food poisoning.
Moral of the story is, prepping is good for both catastrophes and the little hiccups of life.

Just had a pair of Razer Barracuda's break on me and replaced with a HyperX Cloud Alpha, and I love the headset except for two small things that will probably be a dealbreaker that will make me return, no pause/play button and awful range on the wireless connection. Wondering if anyone can offer a suggestion with the following requirements,
Price range - $100 - $175
Wireless headset with good range - I like to listen to content while doing chores around the house and I like being able to get up and do something during an online DnD session while still listening/chatting. I live in a 2 bedroom apt, probably less than 900 sq ft., and the wireless dongle is plugged in on the back of the tower under my desk. I could try and put the dongle on top of my desk with a USB extender if needed. The HyperX is dropping out if I get further than 10-15ft from the PC, If I could get 30 feet range, I'd be happy.
Solid build quality - metal frame a bonus like the Hyper X, many previous headphones of mine snap at the connection between the headband and the ear pad.
Pause/play button - I need to be able to pause a YT video from the other room if I get a call or someone is talking to me. Must work on PC wireless connection.
Acceptable mic quality, with the Razer my mic was too quiet or constantly cut out. I want to be able to chat and be understood without being chained to the desk with my wired headset.
Bluetooth, compatibility with PS5 a plus
For comfort, the Hyper X is perfect, so something similar to that.
Obviously acceptable sound quality, I don't think I have very high standards for sound based on the way people talk in this sub, I thought the sound was fine on my Razer set and my wired set is EPOS Sennheiser 302 which also sounds good enough.
Is this totally head in the clouds unrealistic?
Or do I need to up my price range to $200 - $300? i.e. in other words buy Audeze Maxwell
