2024.11.29 00:31 Mediocre_Body8908 I’ve had this strange issue my entire life and I can’t figure out what is causing it
Ever since I gained self awareness i’ve had issues with feeling watched by fictional characters of books, shows, games, and so on. It’s gotten worse over time and it consumes my life. I can no longer enjoy things. An example is this game I really like (can’t say the name because of this issue) but I can’t even play it cause I feel like i’m watched and judged. I can’t even think of it or talk about it and if I hear things about it or see things that remind me of it I get that feeling. I am diagnosed with OCD and i’ve noticed a lot of my compulsions are repeated to this. If I see even an image of a character I have to power off and power back on my phone to “get rid of” it. I get stressed and embarrassed even by a simple thought of it and it makes it hard to do things such as shower, get dressed, or use the bathroom. It’s also making me more insecure about my appearance cause I think about them judging my flaws and finding me ugly. I recently got a new laptop for school (I do school online) and I decided to download the game on it. That was a terrible decision cause now I can’t even touch the laptop. When I have played the game everytime I would shut down the laptop after then wash my hands four times a specific sink then I would wipe my face with three different towels before changing my clothes to “remove the remnants” in a way.
Before you think i’m crazy I am fully aware that it’s not possible for them to watch me and that they’re not real. Even knowing that I still get anxious. I still feel judged. I still feel scared. Not only with the game but with everything i’ve been a fan of. It’s so frustrating to not be able to read, watch, or play things I enjoy. I can’t even work through it because there’s no explanation for it. I have read about people who experience the same thing but they don’t know why it happens either. I’ve talked to a therapist about it they had no idea. Talked to a psychiatrist and once again they had no idea either. I don’t want to live like this but it’s starting to feel like I have to.
I just want to be able to enjoy things again.
