I (24F) live with my husband and baby in a duplex. When we moved in, the landlord told us our neighbor was a “quiet old lady who was retired and kept an eye on the neighborhood.” Since my husband and I are quiet people (I was still pregnant so no crying baby for the first half of our lease), we thought it would be a great situation for both parties.
A few weeks after we moved in, the banging started. Cleaning the house: bang bang bang Cooking in the kitchen: bang bang bang Walking across the floor bang bang bang
My husband and I were annoyed, but we hoped she would eventually get used to having neighbors again. We tried our best to stay even quieter, but nothing we did satisfied her. Outside, where she’d sit and smoke for hours, she always acted friendly. We lived this way for months.
One morning as my husband was leaving for work, she confronted him, asking if he “had to be so d*** noisy all the time,” and threatening to call the cops. He was polite and told her to go ahead and do that.
It all came to a head one night when my son had a fever. We were moving around more than normal trying to get medicine, cool shower, etc. Obviously we were stressed as first time parents, trying to decide whether or not to take him to the ER.
And in the middle of all that: bang bang bang Finally fed up, I stomped back at her. The first time I had ever done it, refusing to stoop to her level. And I made it count, stomping from one end of the house to the other as loudly as possible.
A few minutes later, she was incessantly ringing our doorbell. Holding my baby, I opened the door a crack and calmly started to explain that my baby had a fever. But she screamed that she “didn’t give a s***” so I started to close the door on her. As I did, she put her hands on the door and pushed, so that I had to throw my body against the door to shut and lock it. Then I heard her clawing at the doorknob. She screamed that she was going to call the cops, but I was already dialing 911.
By the time the cops showed up, she was gone. The cops agreed that everyday noises like walking around weren’t reasonable grievances when you live in a shared space. They went to speak to her, warning her not to confront us again and to call them if she had a real noise complaint.
Since that night, we haven’t interacted and the banging has stopped, but has been replaced with her “mimicking” the noises I make. She cooks when I cook (I’ve never heard the woman use her kitchen in my life), slamming cabinets and being as loud as she can. If I drop something, she makes a loud noise. I banged my elbow into a doorknob the other day, and she went on a tirade slamming doors around her house. I’m always scared she’s going to escalate again, so I creep around to try to pacify her.
Sometimes I don’t feel I’ve done anything wrong, but I still have a guilty conscience deep down. All this tension eats me up and I feel like a prisoner inside my own home. AITA?

I 15f, was verbally abused (got very close to physical and sexual) from the age of 7-9 by my step father. He eventually hit my brother M too hard and it bruised. Dcyf said (I'm gonna call step father JB because he's never even close to a father figure) JB was not allowed within 500 feet of me or my brother M. My mother stayed with the piece of shit JB. She still says it's for the sake of my youngest brother F. She constantly tried to blame me for everything that happened to JB. She believed JB (S Offender multiple times) over my brother. Multiple years go by, JB goes to prison, gets out early. I can't even stay overnight at her house because OMG JB needs to stay there! And then I discovered something. Competitive swimming. It sounds dumb, but this was the one thing that I could be the best or the worst and I would still loves it. The environment was so very positive and the sport became my passion. Swimming (metaphorically) dragged me out the deep end. I was finally happy. And then everything burned down. Literally the pool building burned down. I live in the middle of nowhere, the closest other pool is 45+ minutes away. But the people on the team can't be replaced. Even if I switched teams, these kids are the only things keeping me alive.

This week is my birthday week. I found out my mother has cancer again. My computer completely fried so I can’t do my college work. I’ve been having the worst mood swings and to top it off my boyfriend (24m) of 8 years breaks up with me, over a fight. I’ve been trying to visit him we are LDR, tickets are like 2,000 USD so I’ve been preparing I’ve never even gotten a passport before. I find out he wants me to wait, why? Because he’s buying a house randomly. I felt shocked and hurt because I’ve been trying to make future plans to move and this just happened so I felt like something was up. I told him let me a get a hotel no worries I want to see you. I made it clear and communicated that I felt this way because I have been trying to see him and move as soon as possible. He randomly hits me with, do you really want kids?? Some background here I’m trans 24(ftm) and I have decided you know it’s fine if I have a baby, because I do want one as well, and he wants to continue his “bloodline”. I’ve let him know, he’s from the UAE so I mean it might be hard to understand being trans but he generally supports me, but he hit me with (but you want to breastfeed?). I was like nope my body my choice I don’t want to have boobs so I’m gonna bottle feed. He breaks up with me.. okay well I say let’s call and talk this out. I really don’t want to lose him I really care about him and I love his personality humor and who he is. We are best friends and I said I’d give it a chance please talk to me I’ll change my mind I’ll do what you’d prefer, I’m willing to compromise. Anyway, we had problems before over a misunderstanding, I asked him one day what if I couldn’t have kids, not that I am infertile I just generally do not know I just wanted clarity and security knowing that he would be there and I’d feel more comfortable trying. And he since that day no matter how much I try to reassure him just says I don’t want a kid. But that gets brought up again, I said I don’t know if I’m infertile but who knows really? That was the deal breaker and he said I don’t know if I can ever see the future because I might never give him a child or I might say “my kid my choice”. I was shocked took it and just said yeah I understand and then he wouldn’t hang up..he won’t delete me but he will leave me on delivered. I cried the whole day and I feel empty. Great week 😭 I don’t even want to think about my birthday.
