2024.11.29 02:30 jillvr23 My girlfriend lets her family dictate her life and walk all over her. It drives me crazy!!
I don’t know if I can take it anymore. It’s everything. Here’s on of a few we are going through right now.
We are together 2 1/2 yrs long distance, about 1:40 minutes apart. Her 17 yr old son is going hunting last and this weekend. She has a dog so if he’s gone she can’t be gone. I just spent thanksgiving by myself because of it. Since the election her family of racists and bigots attacked me verbally on facebook for a post I put up day after election. Nothing geared toward her family at all. About 20 people verbally attacked me and everyone of them was her family even a 16 yrs old idiot. So I was done. No more contact with her family. Anyway, her son is still home and not gone to go hunting yet. I thought it was her ex that “wasn’t sure if they felt like going hunting”. If that wasn’t bad enough when I’m yelling about how she lets her ex dictate her life she says it’s not him it is Anthony. So that’s even worse. You’re letting your son decide when you can see me? He already said he was going so she stayed home and now he’s not sure if he wants too. WHAT?!! You don’t let him lollygag around deciding while she could already be here. You tell him either he’s going or he’s not and you leave. It’s so disgusting to me how she lets him and everyone walk all over her.
It’s everything in her life. She’s 43. I’ve talked to my therapist about this. I’m a strong woman, business owner blah blah blah. Doesn’t matter. But this to me makes her look like a very weak person and it bothers me a lot. Therapists are amazing I personally recommend. She tells me that from all the abuse her family has put her through her whole life this is her coping mechanism. This is how she survived the last 43 years just conceding and let them walk all over her. So that was probably about a year ago. That totally makes sense to me. I get it, I really do. But I’m seeing more and more of her doing this and I tell her to stand up for herself and she doesn’t. Like I said her sons are 17, 19 and the 23 is in the army. But letting these boys at this age do this to her. And mind you they racist bigots too and just getting worse.
About a month ago told her 19 year old starting December 1st he will respect and talk descent to everyone in this house. That would be me, her and her 17 yr old that he still picks on like he’s 12. If she asks him to fix, clean or whatever he has 24 hours to get it done. He will pay $200 a month rent. He said fuck this and said he’s moving out. Then sent me a text saying “ have fun, always running your mouth you dumb cunt”. I have no clue what this means always running my mouth. He was the one I got along with in the family. Now he thinks I put her up to this and hates me with a passion. He attacked me the worst on the election Facebook thing. I had absolutely nothing to do with it. She had her therapist that day at 4pm. She gets home at 3:45 from work so I hadn’t even talked to her about anything yet. Apparently she was fed up with Dawson about something talked to her therapist about set up all the stipulations I just told you about for him. So I had nothing to do with it. I was really proud of her for that and I let her know that. Huge step for her. But there is so much other stuff around her family’s hate for me.
More backstory: I’m her first woman. She just came out about 10 months before we met to her family. Dated men because of her family. She knew they would react the way they are that’s why she never came out.
So the more I see the more I’m questioning if I can live like this. She’s in therapy too. I’ve seen pretty much nothing change in the last 2 1/2 yrs.

For more than 10 years, I have enjoyed revealing things about myself that no one is interested in. In my self-therapy, I have learned to be completely shameless. Shame was one of my main problems in my school days and at university, which I quit because I was not smart enough. I want people to know about me and my life. I want people to be interested, but sadly, no one is. No one wants to accommodate me. No one wants to talk with me. It is so difficult to find someone who wants to talk to me. I hate how most people take more than 5 minutes every time, sometimes even more than 30 minutes or an hour, to reply to messages on private chats. Most would gradually increase the time they respond and then stop replying completely at some point. I know I am an attention seeker, but is that really so hateful? So hateful that no one reacts to my posts? Am I a disgusting being that everyone wants to avoid? That is how I feel after making a post here most of the time. That is why I avoided making posts. No one can relate to me. It is like I am an alien. However, don’t worry. I will overcome these feelings. I just wanted to vent a little. I am sorry if I made anyone feel uncomfortable by being manipulative with my words or anything. I guess I care as much about you as you care about me.

I started recently watching some videos from leftist creators like Shaun and José and a particular thing stood out to me, I didn't feel the need to correct them every second, nor the feeling that a claim they made was done in bad faith. "Have they moderated on their opinions", Nope, Shaun reposted a post calling liberals right wingers, but José seems hinged on Bluesky at least (I would check his Twitter but I got rid of that shit on election night). So why did I not only felt like that, but enjoyed my time there? Well the answer is simple, we agree on 90% of our opinions, we are both pro LGBTQ+, want free and equal societies, and we want to utilize the most wealthy in our societies to benefit the whole. And so a question came to mind " Why am I fighting with these people and not trying to reach out to them".
Under this post someone made a pretty salient point, to them they have to watch every four years as the Democrats ignore them, eat shit, the Republican gets a turn, they fuck the country up, Democrats gets a turn, fixes the country, repeat. Let me make my political leanings clear so there's no confusion going forward, I am a staunch Democrat, in fact this election was the first election I could vote in legally and I voted Democrat down ballot in not only a deep red state but also a deep red county. I'm also a capitalist who wants to use the system to further the country as a whole and is pretty hawkish on foreign policy. I say this because I as a 20 year old man only known that cycle, my earliest involvement in politics was In 2016, and I have no doubt that I am not unique in that aspect. So put yourself in the shoes of a young adult who just gained awareness of their surroundings, you see the Democrats eat shit to the guy who calls his political opponents dumb nicknames and said that he is so famous he can walk up to any woman and grab them by the pussy, then you watch as the obviously unqualified buffoon makes a mockery of your country, he then loses the next election but 74,216,747 people still vote for him, honestly I am not surprised people went full tankie during that.
Yes, people are unsatisfied with the establishment, and that is because to young people the Democratic establishment is so weak they couldn't defeat someone so obviously unqualified TWICE, at that point you do three things, check out, join the other group, or tear the whole thing down. But they are not unreachable, they don't live in a different reality like MAGA, they're just disillusioned. We need to now more then ever to not only argue for the establishment but justify the establishment, we are facing a unified right, however that will not last, hell they might not be able to make to the end of these four years. During that time we need to bring these people under the fold, you can disagree about everything but when it election day we need to back the candidate 100%, otherwise we elect another fascist that will be more intelligent than Trump (not that the bar is high).
TDLR: The enemy of my enemy is my friend, but that friend needs to be willing to defend me.
