Hey everybody, I (28F) am dating a guy (24M) for about 1,5 weeks now and I can’t seem to shake the feeling that something is very very wrong. I have been burnt in the past, so naturally I’m overthinking now and have some trust issues. Therefore I need some objective advice. It’s a bit of a long story though (although dating so shortly).
First of all I want to start how we met: Apparently we had a match on a dating app 2 months ago and he even messaged me on Instagram, but I’m barely active on dating apps and I didn’t see his message on Instagram.
Then about 1,5 weeks ago I went home in the evening and right next to my house he passes me on the street. He is super tall and has a very goodlooking face, so naturally I was staring at him when I noticed him. We locked eyes for a second when we passed each other and I was a bit disappointed that he didn’t talk to me. 2 minutes later I’m in my house and see that I got a new message on Instagram and it’s him asking if he just saw me on the street. This was also the first time I saw his message from two months ago. So he immediately recognized me on the street and remembered my name to look me up on Instagram again. Which was very impressive to me. He looks older than he is and normally I would not date a younger guy, but let’s say he was very persistent.
He immediately invited me on a date for the next day and we had a nice time. He told me early on that he has this habit of blocking people when they don’t answer him after 30 minutes. And I already noticed him double and triple texting or following up with a “?” when I didn’t answer fast enough. He also told me his last relationship was 4 years ago and she cheated on him for money with somebody else. Ever since that time he only had one-night-stands and does not invite women a second time.
The second date he invited me to a food court in a mall, which was super strange to me. Because it was so loud and children everywhere and there was absolutely no romantic vibe. Even if he wants to keep it low-cost, there are plenty of cute little restaurants around at the same price. He kept saying stuff like he likes the simple things and he doesn’t like luxury and superficiality. Which is also super weird, because he himself works as a model and is super particular about his looks and what he eats and how often he trains. And he told me one of the reasons why he never dated anyone seriously was, that he always thought he was better than the girls he met. But with me it is different. Additionally, I work in a field of luxury, so my whole profile is full of yachts, supercars, expensive restaurants etc. So why pick a girl that is clearly into luxury if you like the “simple things”?
Anyhow. I didn’t even want to date anybody, so I thought this might be a nice friends-with-benefits type of situation. Because looks-wise he is exactly my type.
But already after date 2 he started lovebombing me, showering me with compliments and how with me everything is so different. As I’ve dated a narcissist in the past, I told him that he is super intense and this is a red flag. I also said that I have commitment issues and don’t date seriously anymore and that we are not a match. And that we can still hook up though if he wants. Well, that gave him the rest apparently. Because he started to say that I just see him as a toy and he’s more than just sex. And then came to my house to change my mind (after 2 fucking dates!).
I crumbled and continued to talk to him. But at the same time couldn’t really take him seriously. It just all feels like lies what he tells me. I don’t know if me saying that I have commitment issues made him so determined to get me for something serious. Because until now there is nothing happening on a physical level apart from small kisses (not even with tongue lol).
For the dates after he showed up dressed like a homeless person. And continued to take me to super cheap places. With 0 thought or effort behind it. He also always makes weird remarks about not having money. But then sometimes makes weird comments where I notice that his family has money and he appears a bit out of touch with reality. So it seems like he wants to “test me” and appear to be poor. Which is super annoying, because I’m around money all my life. I know a lot of very very rich people, I have a lot of very rich dating options and he knows that too. So this apparent “testing” is so annoying to me, because all of my dating options are rich. If I choose him, it’s not because of money lol. And even poor guys are more romantic and put more effort. On the other hand, he texts me all day and wants to see me everyday. When I was supposed to meet a male friend he got super jealous (after not even a week of dating). And I told him that this is too much and he is acting like a boyfriend and we’re not even together. And that he can even still date other people if he wants to. And then he seriously said that according to him we were already in a relationship. And that this is not something that people discuss in his country, people just are in a relationship at some point lol. So I answered where I’m from this is something that guys ask the girl. After they got to know each other for some time.
He also made a remark to one of my jokes and said that his uncle is in the mafia and I’m not sure if he’s not actually serious. And he offered me when I told him that some people bothered me to send his cousins to talk to them.
My best friend told me that with those kind of sociopaths I will end up either dead, in prostitution or mentally and physically abused. So he told me to cut the contact and not answer anymore. So I didn’t answer my guy for a day and he bombarded me with calls and messages of what happened and why I’m doing this to him. He also sent me a picture of my house (apparently he was standing in front) and left a note at my car. After a while I felt bad for not even telling him what happened or why I’m not talking to him. So I told him about all where we don’t fit, about his lack of effort and that we want different things in life and he is clearly too young. But when I told him all of that he managed to convince me again. He’s lovebombing as if his life depends on it and future faking.
So after typing all of this (and it’s only the very basics) I can see again how very red flag all of this sounds. But I’m still struggling with the situation, because yes, I can see the pattern of my ex narcissist, but I also see this pattern everywhere now. And I really think this dude is actually super rich and has crazy trust issues as well. And I’m not sure if he maybe really has no clue how a healthy relationship and dating should look like (since he only has one-night-stands) and if he’s just out of touch with reality like literally every other weird super rich and powerful kid I know. And if I’m not able to appreciate someone really liking me because of my own trust issues.
After I told him about the lack of effort stuff, he changed it and put in more effort. But he still future fakes and lovebombs despite me saying we should take it slow. He now just follows it up with sentences like “but I’m not supposed to say that anymore”. It just feels too good to be true. He is very goodlooking (not an exaggeration), super organized, no female friends, cutting off all side pieces and dating apps after date 2 (apparently), messages me 24/7 and can’t wait to see me again. Sure, it was only cheap places, but he always paid, picked me up and even spontaneously came when I said I’m free. He sees me everyday so there’s not much time left to even be able to date other people. I know I’m not ugly either, but I’m a homebody and have 0 interesting hobbies and am perfectly happy alone. So this apparent obsession feels a bit weird. But I also don’t understand the reason if it is an act after all. Is it the chase? Because I’m the only one who rejected him? Control? Ego? I told him we can simply hook up, but sex is the last thing he wants apparently.
Sorry for my English and the long story. But I’m not sure what to think about all of this. Especially also because of cultural differences. I’m from a rather cold/distanced country and he, well…not.
