Long story short, I am finding myself in the most extreme situation so far in my life.
My wife and I had a baby a few months ago. Our first.
There is recession and no jobs in sight where we live.
We are almost broke all the time, barely making it. However, we are well educated and have had solid careers.
Then, from out of the blue: her sister who is very pregnant, suddenly is diagnosed with late stage cancer.
They live in another country, and we have to go there for the birth to breastfeed the newborn. She can't due to chemotherapy.
When my parents heard the news, they offered to pay for the flights. Several times this was mentioned the last months. We appreciated it as it would be almost impossible to be able to afford this trip right now on our own. My parents are quite well off, upper middle class. Her parents are from a poor country, I am from a wealthy one.
Knowing how transactional they can be, and how hard it is for them to give without conditions - I tried my best to prepare for when the time came to ask for the money for the tickets. During the last calls, I would give a short update on the approaching trip. We were on standby, ready to go on short notice.
Today it was the time, we were ready to book the flights. We just had enough money to cover the tickets, and would need to be "refunded" by my parents shortly after as this would completely empty our accounts.
I called my mother to let her know (had talked earlier in the week indicating that we probably would buy tickets this weekend, since the time of birth (c-section) had been decided.
First, she reacted on the price of the tickets, and started asking questions (tickets were not yet bought, I just mentioned that it was likely it would cost 600 USD one way for one person). We were also not sure if we would need a separate seat for the baby (we have never done this before). My mother instantly became annoyed and said that was nonsense, the baby sits on the lap and we only need 2 tickets. She also said "So, 2400 USD then, are you serious?"
I replied that I don't know where she got that number from, I just told her that some of the cheapest tickets we found were around 600. At this point I was getting very upset from her reaction. I said it's not like we have asked for this, you have offered us to pay for the tickets 4-5 times the last months. I also said I felt disgusted by her reaction, especially since my wife was in the background becoming aware of an increasingly heated phone call. She has so much on her plate right now it's insane she's holding it together, in my opinon. She does not need this kind of BS right before the most critical moment in her life.
It felt so cold and fucked up.
My mother hung up on me as she became pissed off when I called her out on her behaviour.
So I called my father up, as my mother wasn't responding. He proceeds to gaslight me entirely, trying to make it seem like I was manipulating them, and that I was rude to my mother. He said a lot of stuff on that call that made me explode of rage, I had to hang up. My rage came after realizing I was being gaslit - as well as interrupted the entire time. I could not get to finish a sentence. He also told me how shitty I was for not travelling with my wife and baby (I come a few days later, because we have very good reasons to. This is a highly planned "rescue" operation from our side in collaboration with my wifes family.(
Then, he writes my wife in a loving tone, and said of course they will pay her tickets - and that I "was uncivil towards my mother on the phone". Writing her a lot of kind words.
In the end, my mother does not respond to my calmly written, rational messages. She just sent a cold text saying she wired the money to me. That's it.
I told her thanks on the behalf of my wife and her family. (my wife also thanked them many times). I also told her that when it came to my tickets - I would try to find a way to figure it out on my own. Because I feel so disgusted after all this, it was such a sad interaction that I didn't want to ask them for anything at all, ever again.
My mother has never apologized to me her entire life. Not once.

 | Hi!! Deleted and posting again with photos for better engagement 😅 For family secret santa I want to get my cousin a fragrance. I would not be buying the original, I’m getting a dupe from a local dupe brand, they’re not 100% exactly but they’re super affordable and great for gifts! So price is not a factor at all here. I’m stuck between which of these to pick, I know they’re all very different but they’re all profiles I’m certain my cousin enjoys. She lives in Cancun so I feel inclined to something tropical like Goddess or Coral Fantasy. But I also think she’d love OG Born in Roma or LDBS. I feel like LDBS is the most unique of the bunch but also the most out there and could perhaps be a little cloying in high heat? She does enjoy marshmallow scents a lot though so I think this could be a nice elevated version of that. She loves very sweet perfumes, fruity floral scents, and sunscreen scents alike. I do want to give her a full bottle because like I said it’s from a dupe company so it’s just as inexpensive as a sample set, and we have a gift budget limit. Out of this 4 which would you pick? I see lots of 24ish lumens lights and that just doesnt seem like a lot to me. I dont want my house visible from space but i do want a nice effect and as a newbie just am having a hard time getting my head around what to want since i truly only want to do this once. Thoughts?
Related to the above, i like density of lights. Thinking 6” spacing. I see so many at a foot or more. Thoughts there?
