I started to think about the animation & the medium or storytelling in the TBLT film and why it resonates with people. It is a dark film that has running themes of depression, abandonment, loneliness, and suicide & I made some thoughts about the car scene or song, “worthless.”
In the ending or third act we see that this car serves as an introduction not just to the song itself, but also to the deathly environment of the scrap yard. His lyrics are fairly straightforward, albeit grim. The first line: I Can’t take this kind of pressure, is, like most of the song, a dual-purpose lyric. Not only is he getting smashed (while being grabbed) by the magnet and about to be entirely obliterated by the crusher, he is crumbling beneath the requirements of his life. In simpler terms, he “can’t deal with it.” His second and third lines: I must confess one more dusty road, Would be just a road too long. Make it apparent that he is tired, quite possibly depressed. He just cannot move forward (literally) in life anymore. It seems like this car has given up and is ready to go. However, notice his final moments. Specifically 0:23 onwards. In the last moments of his life, he looks up in horror. His demeanor was quite calm up until that point, but then suddenly, in those last moments, it’s almost as if he wanted to live. The Blue Car represents the finality of death, he serves as a warning towards “giving up” since you might not realize what you have until it’s too late, or feeling Worthless.
And now we hear our background chant of Worthless by the cars in the junkyard. It’s easy to miss this the first time around. But they sing Worthless at the exact moment that the mangled body of the Blue Car begins to move away from the screen and down the conveyor belt. Was his death worthless, or was it his life? We aren’t given an answer for now. Here Worthless likely ties more into the events that brought about the end of Hot-Rod. Had Americana not died out, he would likely have still be running the open road. Are the cars worthless, or is it that their masters never cared for them?
When I think about this scene in the film, there’s something to be said about the weapon of the revolution that arguably began modernity being used to destroy that which is obsolete creating beliefs & problems that almost every one faces today.
I think the film as a whole teaches people that in a way there isn’t an ideal or perfect outcome for us as the things we do are random in life, A common theory given the circumstances of the films characters shows, that it may be as simple as them all having abandonment, or PTSD or simply being broken or useless. The kid seems to be like Andy from toy story having a bond with the toaster until it gets lost & the master finds them while bringing the appliances home. Both toaster & the blanket show frequent themes of isolation and loneliness.
The cars show the symbolism that things are never ideal & that we all make mistakes & fall down even tho we get old and achieve things, So there is a lot of symbolism to be found in this movie. Jerry Rees was especially careful to plan out every little detail, from the intro shots panning the cabin, to the flower scene, to the closing shots. However, I would argue that no part of the film was more symbolic and multi-faceted than the junkyard scene. However, I can’t just say that and leave you to the video. So, in an attempt to reduce my chances of appearing to have apophenia, or showing no care, I’ll break things down pretty much line by line. But first, a little reminder of where we are in the film.
The junkyard song really touches on how cars are such a big part of our lives (taking you to weddings, taking you to your grave in a casket), but in the end, they're just some steel and rubber in a junk yard. Similar to how we use them every day, to navigate or go to places while the cars feel worthless or unloved.
Essentially in the end our team of appliances are seeking to find their adult Master. They’ve actually managed to find his apartment in the city after being abandoned in his childhood cabin, but the new appliances throw them in the trash. They then arrive at this dump where they are in the midst of facing a real peril: the car killing magnet, while escaping in addition to this, Toaster now has a feeling a tinge of guilt for the separation from its owner. The film goes into deep symbolism about how almost anything can be replaced & the fear that we embrace daily, our worries, & our struggles, while also showing that anyone can become replaced, or not be preoccupied, or loved, for the trials and tribulations of life that we face with themes of PTSD, or abandonment.

2024.11.30 01:31 ChudChudChudJak Should I have my partner committed? Is it less safe for them? Lost and confused
Hi my partner has been more suicidal recently to the point where I’m scared to leave them alone and even when we’re together they’ll have episodes where they’re right on the edge of killing themselves. I don’t want to just call 911 or send them somewhere potentially dangerous but at the same time it can’t be worse for them than being on their own..
They’re currently in therapy and about to meet with a psychiatrist, but last time they got medicine they got rid of it in the first day. I don’t know if things will change soon enough to not put their life at risk and I don’t want to wait.
If I told their parents they would help out but they’re also kind of out of touch and I don’t want them to make it worse. They know about the depression but not just how serious it is, and how close they’ve come to dying. I’m not sure about the terminology but maybe a medium term stay in a facility for people suffering with BPD would help?
If anybody has any recommendations or experience, especially in the Florida area it would really help. I’m lost and not trying to make it worse for them.

I have been on birth control for approx 8 months and have gone without a period for 4 months (skipped the inactive). I was spotting through for the past month so my GP told me to stop the pill for a week and restart.
I have now stopped but my bleeding is heavy with massive blood clots and cramping.
