Moving out of your home, finding temporary housing, flying to Bahamas for 48 hours, driving 2 days to TX, finding more temporary housing, having elective surgery that has extreme recovery protocols, driving back to TN 2 weeks post op, living in temporary housing trying to recover, ALL TO HAVE YOUR HOUSE POTENTIALLY FALL THROUGH.

Iām a small business owner. I make gourmet popcorn & lemonade! I also have a full time job. Make a long story short, I signed up for the local indoor holiday pop up shop weeks ago and have sacrificed a lot (financial wise) in order to do this event on Sunday. I usually do farmers markets etc, but setting up the tent + everything else can get pretty tedious. Compared to the indoor market, table + chairs is provided just bring product.
Well this week, I get an ankle injury (tendinitis/tendonitis) and it hurts pretty bad to walk. The doctor gave me a couple days off to rest etc plus light duty when I return on Monday.
However, the days Iāve been given to rest Iāve been trying to get everything ready for the event. š Iām just trying to really push through and take meds etc. I do a little work for the business then i have to sit and ā recover ā for like 45 minutesā¦, I feel like if I donāt take tmrw and Sunday to actually * rest * then when I go back Monday my healing will just be delayed and Iāll be in even more pain for not resting. I kinda feel at a crossroads. A lot of people are expected to come to this event and being that my business is pretty small, it feels like a golden opportunity especially to end the year with!! I just donāt know what to do. Maybe Iām pushing myself too hard.

Doug has complained about this trope for years, and rightfully so. However, that doesn't mean it can't ever work. What's an example where it does?
The one that immediately comes to mind is While You Were Sleeping. I'll try to keep spoilers to a minimum, but know that it does center around this trope. Heavily so.
Watching for the first time, you know this big charade is gonna blow up in the main character's face and you're dreading it the whole time. However, the script very cleverly builds up this lie so much with so many elements that you're too curious to not see how it plays out.
After the secret's out, does it follow the mopey third act that Doug hates? Kind of, but not for the reason you'd think. It's not that the other characters are angry with her and shun her for lying, in fact they pretty much forgive her immediately and still consider her part of the family. It's more that she was shunning herself because she's ashamed for lying to these people that were so good to her. She wasn't even outed either, she chose to come clean. It's not necessarily that she was "mopey" either, she just stepped back because since she's not actually engaged she figured what business does she have in the family anymore?
The script was brilliant with how it planned for everything and the trope was utilized so well that it wasn't painful and went exactly the way a movie like this should. I was expecting to be rolling my eyes once the secret was out, but I really don't think it could've handled it any better.
Any other good examples?
