Hi everyone, I’m 21 years old and I recently migrated to the U.S. in October 2024. I’m looking for some advice and perspective on joining the military, specifically the Air Force.
A little background: Back in my home country, I was a year away from graduating with a degree in Data Science, but my parents want me to return to finish it after I get my green card and re-entry permit. I’ve been thinking about the military for a while now, and while my initial plan was to go for an intel position, I realized that requires U.S. citizenship, which I currently don’t have.
Now, I’m considering my options. One route is joining as an officer straight away, especially because I have a degree (or would soon, after finishing my degree back home). However, I’ve heard from some relatives, including a retired Army member, that officers who join right out of college without military experience often don’t get much respect from enlisted members. This is something I’m trying to weigh heavily in my decision.
On the other hand, I also want to avoid starting from the very bottom. Is there any way to join as something like an E5 or skip the typical "bottom of the barrel" experience, especially with a degree already under my belt?
My main goal for joining the Air Force is to stabilize myself, gain discipline, and get the benefits that come with military service, such as the GI Bill and VA Loan. Plus, I’m looking for personal growth, both mentally and physically, so I’m not only thinking about the career but also about the life experience.
So, what do you think? Should I join as an officer right away, or is it better to go through the enlisted route, gain some experience, and then see where it leads? What are the pros and cons of each route?
Would love to hear thoughts from those who’ve been through this or have advice based on their experiences. Thanks!

I (20F) and my partner (19M) have been together since we were 16 y/o. I’m basically writing this to confirm what I think is abuse and ask some ideas about how to walk away.
This behavior started about a year ago in our first year @ college. He started become more aggressive with everything in his life. He’s never laid a hand on me or thrown anything but his words are terrible.
An example of this was the other day I told him to stop interrupting me to just talk about himself (this is a everyday thing I can’t talk about anything) and he lost his ever loving mind. I stayed calm and walked into my bathroom and he was screaming at the top of his lungs and told me I treat him terrible and I’m a b*tch. He was banging on the bathroom door and I was scared for the first time ever by him. He could see I was visibly shaken up by the screaming and door banging (had a emotionally abusive parent growing up & he knows this) and said “why are you flinching like I’m going to hit u ur life isn’t that bad.” And when I told him he scared me and he said “well u still haven’t apologized” something about that sentence just flipped a switch in my brain.
He is genuinely my biggest hater, everything I do he “jokes” about is just something about me, he mocks me, and loudly makes a “shhh” noise at me when he wants me to stfu. He just picks me apart it’s hard. Obviously this isn’t all of it but that event the other day really just made me feel awful
I know all this is kinda jumbled up but I hate that I can recognize this but can’t find the courage to walk away I’m scared of what he would do.

- Mögliche exakte Positionen:
b) Wenn sie zwischen NEOS und ÖVP wäre, würde sie evtl. Nichtwähler:innen anziehen, ÖVP schwächen, NEOS evtl. komplett unnötig machen und evtl. sogar die SPÖ oder Grünen schwächen, wenn sie z.B. mit Umweltschutz oder Sozialem für Staatsbürger:innen punktet.
c) Wenn sie rechter als die FPÖ wäre, würde sie die ganzen fragwürdigen Extremist:innen aus der FPÖ „herausfiltern“ und diese weniger problematisch machen.
- Viele rechte Wähler:innen, die nicht katholisch/religiös sind, haben derzeit nur die FPÖ und auch die wird immer christlicher.
- ÖVP und FPÖ hatten beide schon sehr viele Skandale und schrecken wohl auch manche Leute ab, überhaupt wählen zu gehen.
- ÖVP (und NEOS) ist(/sind) wirtschaftlich nur für Reiche da und auch die FPÖ verkauft sich z.B. nach Russland und holt die Arbeiterklasse nur mit Populismus.

Nada me tira da cabeça isso, uma coisa é não gostar e pronto, mas a rapaziada usa mentiras pra falar mal da música, resumem funk a algo que não é. Funk por muitas vezes é mais lírico que pop, e até rock. Vcs escutam funk sobre rebolar lentinho por crias e acham que se resume a isso, e mesmo quando é algo mais fútil tipo ostentação e etc. Tem músicas que conseguem ter uma boa letra e rítimo. Na maioria das vezes é gente generalizando e usando o preconceito que elas tem pra falar mal.
