In retrospect, I think the Scion/Toyota iQ is pretty cool. In a time when cars are just growing in size, Toyota (Scion, for the North American market) gave us a smarter Smart car that still has a unique charm to it.
The iQ was the world's smallest car that managed to squeeze in a rear seat. Furthermore, the iQ was also able to fit 11 airbags inside, and it was the FIRST production vehicle to include a rear window curtain airbag. Toyota was even among the first to simulate a CVT to make it feel like a conventional automatic, which the iQ also had.
For such a small car, it has creative packaging, feels pepper than its powertrain numbers suggested, and it had the best fuel economy of any non-hybrid in its time. That, alongside its ability to turn and park just about anywhere, makes the iQ quite charming. Even Aston Martin agrees, as they rebadged and gussied up a twin called the Cygnet.
In numerous ways, the Scion/Toyota iQ was ahead of its time, and it might even potentially become a future cult classic.
