I (17 f) have had painful periods and excessive bleeding for more than 3 1/2 years now. My periods have gotten progressively worse these past few months: kinda irregular, super painful cramps, random and full face acne breakouts, tearing feeling in my abdomen, and tmi but really sharp and frequent pains in my butthole. :( My mom had endometriosis and had infertility issues growing up as well so I'm at a really high risk. I think I'm already developing it though, because I've been experiencing the same symptoms she was when the doctors diagnosed her. I mentioned all of this to my mom, and with the help of my concerned bf, finally got her to book me a gyno appointment. (I have no idea why she didn't earlier... oh well)
She told me that she had spoken with the PA of her gyno about my symptoms and they recommended that I start taking birth control. The PA mentioned Lo Loestrin and Amber. (I think? That's what my mom told me but after a bit of research I could only find something called Amberen. 😭)
But anyways, my appointment is on the 9th of december and I was hoping to get some guidance on which birth control works well for a case like mine. Btw I'm 105lbs, 5'1", athletic, but also have the BRCA gene.

throwaway account.
for context, my family immigrated from Eastern Europe to the USA around 10 years ago. the immigration has caused my brother and I to be really different people (i.e. a good example is food preferences: I am vegetarian but I really love trying all kinds of cuisines and tastes and consider myself a foodie whereas he would be happy eating things like burgers, french fries, chicken, etc. with minimal spice). I also think I am much more community oriented whereas my brother seems more individualistic (this is my perception, I would say I don't really know him). I think this is because he mostly grew up in the USA (rural too) whereas I feel like maybe I mostly grew up back home.
I've noticed my brother makes what I would consider terrible comments sometimes, specifically relating to India. He has said things like how all Indian food smells bad, how he doesn't like India (said during a board game where he was choosing whether to take India or China, the comment was unnecessary to the game), how there's nothing to do in India, and how it's dirty. He also does this thing where he gets really bothered if my family doesn't get American or Italian food (we do, not every single time but we do) and complains how "we never go to a normal, American restaurant" and how I always try to get my family to go to Chinese, Japanese, or Indian restaurants instead (we don't even go to Indian restaurants because of him, but to give him credit, he did admit he shouldn't have said we go to them when I pointed this out).
I've told him before that this language bothers me, especially because some of my closest friends are ethnically Chinese/Indian and have been longer in USA than we have and are literally "more American" than us, but also because calling those restaurants normal implies the other ones are not normal. He said I'm being too sensitive and trying to start something when I know what he means by that and how if he was in Italy, a normal restaurant would be an Italian one. I said Italy doesn't have the same heterogeneity as the USA and also that singling out some restaurants as normal implies others are abnormal aka weird, un-American, etc. And also how in parts of the USA, American style cuisine is not even the most common cuisine. This then escalated into an argument during which I said he can be racist.
On one hand, I do think what he says carries prejudice and can be interpreted as such. And I guess I believe being racist is a spectrum - you can be a small degree of racist vs a big degree of racist. To be clear, he's certainly not a bigger degree of racist at all. I am not even sure if he's racist or if a more accurate term would be prejudiced.
On the other hand, there are other qualities about my brother that cloud my judgement (i.e. I think he's arrogant/spoiled) and my mom is saying that he's just saying stupid things without understanding what they convey and that he doesn't actually believe in them. I also don't know my brother well whatsoever (we only talk when we're both home for the holidays and we barely do even then) and I feel bad that I push him away with insults like this. I want to be friends with my sibling, but I really can't see how we could be - we clash a lot. Lastly, I did get emotional during this argument, which I think could have made me be more extreme than I should have been. I also think he took nothing away from that argument other than that I am overly sensitive.
I hope this provides enough context without going into my dysfunctional family dynamics (every family member of mine should have gone to therapy a while ago...) but please feel free to ask me questions in the comments. and please be nice. I already feel really bad - both because of what I said and also because of what my brother said.

I got a new cat a few weeks ago. She will rub all over me for pets continuously, and after I pet her a few times, she bites me. With me, it’s a very light bite and doesn’t hurt, but with other people, she bites pretty hard. The confusing part is she will let go and then go right back up to them and rub on their hand, wanting to be pet. She does the same to me, bite and then trying to get pet again. So I assume it’s not overstimulation but it sure doesn’t feel like a love bite either. I have tried doing the quick “ow!” And then ignoring her for a while, but she doesn’t seem to get the memo. Idk if this is important to include or not but she has had kittens before, so there could be relation? Just because sometimes she will do a tug on us, like she’s trying to get us to do something or get closer, idk. Any tips or tricks? Has anyone else experienced this?

I have encountered the theory of Power loss protection somehow saving SSDs from excessive random sync writes multiple times.
It goes along the lines of PLP SSDs could report back sync writes as committed before actually having been flushed from the DRAM, as that could happen later on emergency shutdown.
However, there's no official document I have ever seen that reliably corroborates that.
The closest I found is the Micron paper A guide to understanding differences in performance and use cases:
Traditionally, write buffering has been used to increase instantaneous, or burst, I/O performance. Incoming write traffic is buffered into fast storage (usually DRAM) and then migrated to slower, long-term storage (NAND). Because buffers are typically limited in size, they are not a major factor in steady state performance. Once the buffer fills, it brings no benefit (to absorb an incoming write, we must drain data from the buffer into the NAND).But then, also from Micron, there's How Micron SSDs Handle Unexpected Power Loss:
One method for increasing parallelism is write accumulation. Write accumulation is a process by which several smaller write operations are combined into a larger write operation across multiple physical NAND die.
This process optimizes write operations: It enables the greatest amount of data to be written with the least amount of media busy time. To take advantage of write accumulation, the SSD must have some form of write buffer in which to accumulate write commands
Although client and data center SSDs can use this technique, the exact implementation may differ. Micron data center SSDs have stored energy to write all the data in a write accumulation buffer to NAND should the SSD lose power (due to sudden removal, for example). Without a power protection mechanism, this sudden power-loss may result in data risk.
Although Micron’s SSDs use fairly large DRAM components, only a small amount of the DRAM is actually used to buffer user data. Rather, the DRAM is used to manage the logical-to-physical address table (the FTL, as described earlier) in real-time.So this does not sound at all to serve the "saving writes" purpose, but rather, increasing performance only.
But statements like these are plentiful:
- don't use consumer SSDs without PLP as these can't cache sync writes so the SSDs can't optimize the writes for less wear 1
- Only consumer SSDs without PLP are subject to such quick wear 2
- if you want to avoid write amplification (as a 512bit write will rewrite a full ssd nand), you should really use ssd or nvme with a PLP/supercapacitor 3
- That's the difference between a consumer SSD and an enterprise SSD (with PLP and/or much higher write endurance). 4

I know this is gonna be anecdotal but I'm just wondering. I could just be having a bad night, but each game has been a crushing defeat. I'm wondering if possibly the nature of giving extra points to groups is causing even more disadvantage to solo players than normal, but it could just be me. Curious what other solo experiences are right now? Maybe I'll hear some good news and it'll motivate me to have a fresh and better day tomorrow if some of you are doing well.

Hi yall im looking for some advice. Ive been thinking of starting a career in fashion but im not sure where i would start. Like im 21yo male and trying to find my passion. The one thing ive been consistently doing every day for the past 2 years or so is creating and wearing an outfit when i go out, which is basically daily since i go to school. And i love doing it. I feel like if i dont wear a outfit i tried to make good, i would feel like shit. I think its become part of my identity. I get compliments from friends, school mates, and strangers, which makes me think im doing something right.
The thing is im graduating in the spring with a bachelors in mathematics. And i kinda have a job in software engineering lined up (ive had multiple SWE internships). Im kinda interested in doing fashion school after i graduate or maybe some time later, but i feel like fashion is something thats better to start when im younger. Also id already be 4 years older than the freshmen. And idek if fashion school is necessary for a career. I really dont think id be happy in STEM long term. This is probably because its not a social job and i already have few solid friends and im introverted. Ive worked at starbucks for a bit and i loved it because i got to socialize with my crew every day. I don't have many friends into fashion so its been hard for me to figure things out. But generally im not good at socializing or social events.
I feel its noteworthy that in middle school, i did freelance graphic design on roblox and was pretty successful. So i definitely have an artist in me and maybe its remanifesting now. Also note ive lived in NYC all my life including now.
The point is i want to spend my life doing something i love and being able to live off it. I want some advice lol!!!! Dont know where else to go.
