With regard to a recent post about the sheriff of Lark Street, I responded with the below comment. That comment has since been removed by the mods. Of course, many people here will not agree with the substance of my response, but it was entirely civil. You know, the sort of back and forth that is supposed to happen in a public forum. I'm curious what all of your thoughts are with respect to the Mods removing contrary yet civil posts? My post is below:
Many folks on this subreddit don't like hard truths. They prefer soft theories that don't work. Those of us who have been around awhile have seen what works and what doesn't. The soft approach does not. This does not mean there should not be additional "soft" remedies in addition to the effective ones. But relying only on soft ones will get you what you have now.
Let the downvoting begin! And let everything continue on its long downward spiral.
He's not self deputizing or enforcing anything. He's just raising awareness and doing what he can to provoke an actual response to unacceptable things that everyone seems to have become numb to. If we accept the current, absurd state of things, things will never get better. And no, posting social workers on the street won't help. There been too much pablum peddled to everyone by well-meaning but soft and naive people. I like that he's drawing attention to the situation and calling for some actual, useful action. Closing down more businesses doesn't help. It makes things worse.

I had a mercurial week with a lot of ups and downs. I’ve been stressed with exams and studies, and it was also my friend’s wedding this weekend.
As a little side note, for the past 4 months I’ve been using this wedding as motivation to get fit. I’ve been hitting the gym, tried cutting out my sugar addiction and drank more water. The first 3 months were amazing, but I’ve been slacking in the last few weeks because of my exams.
I sat an exam on Friday morning, then packed my bags and got ready to take a flight to the wedding destination. I was feeling incredibly stressed, and caught a glimpse of myself shirtless in the mirror. I froze because it looked like I lost a lot of my progress and I felt so sad.
I finished changing and went to the airport. Then the most wholesome thing happened. I was being patted down by a security guard and once he finished, he said you must hit the gym right? I was like what? He said yeah I can feel your muscles, how much do you bench? This single comment gave me such butterflies and made my whole week. I was so happy and geeked out about how I’d been lifting recently and trying to put on some muscle and lose weight. He said keep it up and just, wow. Dude’s complimenting other dudes is so rare, and this guy really made me feel so appreciated in less than a minute. It was such a wholesome moment that changed my entire mood and I felt so energetic and happy for the whole trip there :) I also took this as a realization that guy’s don’t get much compliments. I decided to give a lot of compliments to all my friends at the wedding today, telling them they looked really good, their hair looked good, they looked fit etc, and it just made the wedding wholesome cause it started a domino effect where essentially all of us guys were constantly complimenting each other all day haha. It made us more tight-knit today and it was a good day.
