2024.12.01 04:53 yoshiatsu Diagnosing a pellet grill?
When I went to smoke my Thanksgiving turkey my pellet grill wouldn't start(!!) It just ran the fan but didn't ignite the pellets. So, I tried again and it failed again. So, opened up the burn chamber... it was all ash. It had been cleaned recently, not a ton of ash. Just no pellets. so I cleaned it out and added pellets and tried again. It not only didn't ignite but actually tripped the GFCI on the outdoor outlet breaker.
At that point I smoked the turkey on my charcoal grill (it came out fine, just a little late).
My questions are: how do I go about diagnosing this? I suspect an auger problem because of the GCFI thing and because it's been making a weird squeeeeeking noise lately. Is there a way to tell for sure? Does anyone have experience replacing an auger motor? The grill is an older Green Mountain Grill Jim Bowie (wider one). I think the auger motor is like "only" $60 so if that's the problem I'd likely opt to fix it myself. Love any advice from the community.

I'm looking for a laptop primarily for school purposes, but I also want to be able to low-medium end games on it. When I'm looking online, I see all these laptops with like i9 cpus and 4070s etc. for a fraction of what it would cost in a desktop. From what i've seen this is because they perform terribly. Is there any good laptop for playing lower end games and running programs for school purposes that won't have major performance issues like terrible overheating?

Hi,
I (16M) have been strongly considering getting my own dog for years (but basically my whole life). I have decided that if I were to do so, it would work out best for me to get a puppy right around my 17th birthday in April. This is because I will be coming up on the end of the school year, snowy season will have just ended, and it would also be just before spring break. Then, if I go to college, the dog would be over a year and a half old and well trained by then.
We have two family dogs, and I have a lot of experience with pets (guinea pigs, rats, mice, fish, cats, you name it). I have spoken with my parents about this a million times before, and they have no doubts in my capability to take care of a dog, their only worry is what time I may be spending in class for college, and they worry about a dog getting in the way of going out with friends (but I rarely ever do that and I hate parties and drunk people makes me scared).
Now, there is a strong chance that I will be going to art school, meaning (if I get into the one I want to) I will not really have studying/homework to do, just art to make, so I think I would be able to dedicate time to my dog.
The next point is, I am autistic and my main struggle is sensory processing, and I have found that when I can play with my dogs fur or have them on top of me it helps a lot in calming down, so I think that having a dog could be beneficial for me too in that way. I have considered trying to train the dog as a service dog, but I do understand that there is a chance the training won’t go right for that. However, ideally, having the dog trained for service dog work would be the best case scenario.
Branching off of that bit about autism, my special interest is animals so my life kind of revolves around animals/my pets, so I think it would even be hard for me to go to college and not have a dog with me.
I am working on the financial aspects, trying to find a job, and will not be getting a dog until I have $500 for initial expenses, plus a good portion of my goal of $1,000 for yearly expenses, and some in an emergency fund which I would hope to save up to $5,000 in.
I have been working on this plan for a while now, but if you guys could point out any issues with it so I can try to fill in the gaps before I officially present this to my parents, I would appreciate it a lot.

If you are like me and are afraid of taking tests and/or having a learning disability. I have something to tell you. It sounds stupid but just try. Study Study, and study some more. And if you don't pass, just take it until you do. It only took me one attempt but I had taken the practice test about 200 times on the hamexam and I recommend doing so. If it seems like you are doing worse after doing a few tests, then shorten your study sessions to only a few tests/flashcards. And when you take the practice tests, read the ones you got wrong, and read the question and then the correct answer so your mind automatically can associate it. Also, I'm very surprised I passed. I was probably overthinking it earlier when I was worried. I just want everyone on here who helped me out to feel thanked. Thank you. And to those who don't have your license yet and are afraid of the test, just study. You can do it. I did it and I didn't even pass high school. Believe in yourself.
