I’m the Community Advisor of the Veterans House at Ohio State University. For the past three years, I’ve had the honor of running this transitional housing program, which helps student veterans as they pursue their degrees and transition to civilian life.
One of the most common pieces of feedback we get from the veterans here is the desire for workout equipment in our rec room. Physical fitness is an important outlet for many of them, and having an equipped exercise space would greatly benefit their physical and mental health.
Unfortunately, Ohio State is unable to provide equipment directly due to liability concerns, but they have said that donations would be allowed. That’s where I’m hoping the Columbus community might be able to step in!
If you have any workout equipment—new, used, or even cosmetically imperfect—that you’d be willing to donate, it would mean the world to the veterans living in our house. We’re looking for items like weights, dumbbells, resistance bands, benches, racks, or other gym essentials.

Don Quixote did not feel brave.
So much had they gone through. So wrong did things go, ever since they stepped foot in the place he built. That hopeful land he had built from the ground up to defy the callous and hateful nature of the world he lived. A monument to the Dream he could feel rotting in his soul every moment they spent here, with every horrible reveal.
Cassetti, turned to a horrified shell of himself, to afraid to even move from his position to try and fake a fight with them. Curiambro, driven mad from his "Absolution", given to him by the monster who had usurped this land. Nicolina, a living corpse festering with rancor, seemingly deriving joy from every blow she landed on him. And Dulcinea, who had begged him to return in that train, to set things right...
His treacherous mind only conjured up worse and worse visions of what could possibly have happened to his favorite child.
"Quixote? Are you okay?"
No.
"Ah! Not to worry, young Yuri. Just a thought to what we should prepare for. I am more than ready for any possible villain that crosses our path..."
A lie. But he cannot be anything else. It is the duty of a Father to protect the family, to defend them from any cur that may dare to threaten it.
"...Especially the likes of that Vergillius."
"You rang?"
His hand instinctively lanced out, seeking to skewer the fiend. The man - if he could even be classified with nouns indicative of a being like him, Demian or Facade - danced ever-so-infuriatingly out of his lances reach, and Quixote could feel his treacherous blood beginning to boil. And yet, despite his desire to swing it to the right, his arm does not obey. His eyes widen in confusion and, verily, even some concern, as it splits the chains holding shut the gate they had been led to. As much as it made him feel like the shadow of death had fallen on him, it must have been something positive, as a shocked gasp fled from the ashen man's mouth.
"Ah. I was hoping for the reveal to have the proper gravitas, but... It would appear you will have your reunion ahead of schedule."
"Speak clearly, monster. Who?"
And then, as the gates opened, those horrible, hellish iron doors opened...
He had expected many things of the orchestrator behind Lamancha Land's corruption.
Some hulking bloodfiend he had not been able to witness. Fat on the blood of the innocent and uncaring of the fact they mattered as much as they did. Overthrowing the amusement park to draw in unsuspecting guests to feast upon. And this feast, from the looks of the other residents, was only for them; as all others seemed emaciated beyond even what he had seen.
Or perhaps a clever snake, slithering their way into the ears of those he had left to manage Lamancha Land in his absence. Colluding with them to horde the blood amongst themselves. Perhaps even trapping humans to be treated as little more than cattle. True villains, ones he could slay without a single thought.
"Ah, Don Quixote. It seems you have had a wonderful Dream in the City. I, too, have had a Dream most ingenious. It is yours, after all."
Never would he have expected the culprit to be his very own dream, long since rotten into a sanguine nightmare, to be the cause of it.
The figure from his most beloved dreams and most horrible nightmares stood there, leaning against the Wheel as if all strength had left their legs. Those eyes, those scarlet eyes, twinkled with a light he had never seen in them before. And yet, the hope and joy in her face was not he saw. No, it was the numerous scars that had formed in his absence. Again, another victim of his thoughtless immaturity and cruel carelessness is bared before him, and he feels tears threatening to pour from the mere sight of it.
His lance, so lovingly crafted, drops from his hands, just as he drops to his feet.
He hears someone call out from behind him. Footsteps, and a hand has reached out, to rouse him up. He cannot tell who it was; his gaze remains fixed on the haunting figure before him.
"...I... Who... Who did this to you?..."
"Ah, Don Quixote... I did. For one must suffer, must struggle if they are to reach their dream. And I have managed to make your Dream reality, paid for in blood as it was. I have turned Lamancha Land into a place where all humanity is welcome! The blood the Family takes from me does not hurt, for I simply close my eyes and think of a future, the future where the sun shall shine eternally and Humans and Bloodfiends dance together! Is that not a wonderful future we have Dreamed together?..."
Every wonderful, horrible word that came from her mouth was like a nail driven into his heart, accompanied by a footstep that sounded like a tolling bell in his ears. He felt nauseous, despite being perfectly healthy. But he knew exactly why. The idea that S- his beloved daughter could be before him with such wounds was mortifying. And yet, the idea that she driven their family into such despair, such pain...
He could believe it, with the caveat that she belived it would be for the best, and that admission made him feel cold inside.
"...Father, why do you seem upset? Was this not the Impossible Dream you wished to teach me? I know there aren't many people, but I swear. I swear that I have NEVER allowed any guest to suffer. Now, will you join me, Father? As the guest of honor?"
His vision failed him, and it felt as if the blissful oblivion of sleep had come over him.
