We just discovered ongoing and very sneaky, maniacal abuse from a teacher toward our toddler son.
This morning we were alerted by our children (5 and 3) that a teacher had dug their nails into the palm of my son's hand because he wouldn't sit down to eat his breakfast. The problem is that this incident happened before this morning, we have had previous issues with this teacher regarding our other child, which we had thought was solved.
We are now questioning if that incident was more severe than we thought at the time.
We reached out to other parents and have learned that this exact teacher has had MANY allegations of hitting, encouraging other kids to hit each other when one was misbehaving, and just straight up having other children ignore the child this teacher deemed as being naughty.
We have removed our children from this place. We did not notify the director, because each time (including the last time we brought up an incident regarding this teacher) a parent had raised concerns, the director would tell you how seriously they're taking it, and eventually close the case with "we've reviewed the footage, but didn't see any misconduct"
We checked the reviews of the daycare online and found a 1 star rating mentioning this teacher BY NAME and alleging the exact kind of maltreatment which our children and the other children have claimed.
After removing our children we filed a police report, notified DCFS, our son's occupational therapist, and reached out to two attorneys who stated that unless criminal charges are filed, there's nothing we can do about this in a civil suit.
We are in the state of Utah and we are not at all confident that the police will be of any help, especially since there are no marks (digging your nails into the palm of a child to inflict pain demonstrates intent to cause pain without leaving a mark, imo).
This teacher obviously knows how to get away with the evil they continue to commit against vulnerable children, and there seems to be a strong barrier of protection formed around them by the daycare admin.
We are going to continue our search for counsel; but if anyone can provide any recommendations on how to go about holding those involved to account. We are beyond devastated to know that we have placed our children directly into harm's way.

In this liminal space between what could have been, and what if, the pain is fluid. Sometimes it's compressed and hard, pushing against the walls of my being with pressures I can't bear. Sometimes it flows softly like a babbling creek; familiar and not unwelcome, but still there and doesn't stop. In the valley of thinking of not being pregnant currently, or trying to conceive again, and the pain becomes a roaring wall; A tsunami of dread. It sucks all the air out of me just before it blasts over me and leaves rubble as it wanes. Her absence leaves holes everywhere that are in the shape of our hopes. A car-seat-shaped hole in the car. A highchair-shaped hole in the dining room. My belly, my heart, my arms, her crib, the room, the house, all feel so empty. The pain flows into the holes. Sometimes a slow and silent trickle and sometimes a roaring, terrible flood. His smile isn't as wide, and his eyes glisten with the pain that fills them too. All we can hear is the rushing sound of the pain.

Hi! I am someone who is quite young. I have lately been getting into true crime stuff lately, especially some of the more morbid/creepy stuff such as unsolved murders, unsolved disappearances, unidentified bodies, etc. Some of the cases are quite fascinating! Anyway, I have been doing this for the last two months now, but I really want to stop. This content has been making me extremely paranoid, even in my relatively safe area, and concerned about the safety of myself and my loved ones. I have now routinely had sleepless nights thinking even the slightest noise means that someone is in the house and am now overprotective, especially of my little brother who frequently goes outside to play.
I really don't want to live a life like this. I hate this new paranoia I am having, and have been desperately trying to wean myself off this stuff for the last week or two, but every time I try, I get reminded of some weird case, instinctively look it up, and end up down the rabbit hole again, as I did tonight. I am honestly sick of it and I wish I never found this stuff to begin with, but I literally cannot forget this stuff no matter how much I try to distract myself away. Do you have any advice as to how to get away from this kind of stuff, or what kind of things you would do to get away from this true crime content?
