2025.01.18 05:01 Trereneitor_420 I feel a little bit sad that I loose some pictures of the old tunnel a construction company removed the old rails and installed some pipes for a building that is being built in the outside of the tunnel.
Some history lol. This was at one time the railway for the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad Company around 1892, and was used to get coal from Pennsylvania to the Hudson River waterfront coal docks. The yards shut down in the late 60’s I remember some rails said 1910-1920, maybe last time is was taken care \_(ツ)_/ submitted by Trereneitor_420 to AbandonedNJ [link] [comments] |
2025.01.18 05:01 Dry-Razzmatazz-9762 Increasing evenly with 1x1 ribbing without breaking pattern?
I'm following pattern that has you 1x1 rib 69 stitches for 11 rows.
And then row 12 (rib 6, KFB) 9 times then rib 6 to complete the row.
But surely this throws the pattern off?
Like if (P) is the stitch you are increasing on. You go from:
P K P K P K (P) K P K P
To
P K P K P K (P K) K P K P
Or
P K P K P K (P P) K P K P
Both ways break the 1x1 rib pattern.

2025.01.18 05:01 xeborg IELTS vs PTE: trust my gut or follow the crowd?
Hi,
In short, I failed IELTS twice (9-9-7.5-7.5 and 9-9-7-7.5 for L-R-W-S, need four 8s). Need to decide what to do next. My friends who did PTE and a lot of people online suggest PTE. However, I have concerns:
Firstly, I watched the test overview and tried some apeuni sample tasks, and PTE so far looks extremely intimidating. Essay time allowance is half of that on IELTS (and time was my biggest problem there). Describing a graph seems outright undoable to me: coming up with a response, speaking continuously without stumbling and pausing, all while maintaining a structure and fitting a conclusion into those 40 seconds -- I feel like I should be practicing for years. My apeuni scores are atrocious for that one. Retelling a lecture seems doable if I dumb it down beyond recognition, but my brain just refuses to believe that it could be THAT dumb.
The fact that it's graded by an AI is also a source of dissonance: some people suggest "tricks" to pass it, some people suggest just speaking naturally. While it kinda makes sense that tricks and templates should work because it's AI, part of my brain just refuses to believe that a test could be THAT dumb and simple. Meanwhile, natural just doesn't work: I'm a slow thinker, perhaps an overthinker at times, stumble on words occasionally, I generally need quite a bit of room to pause, think, restart my sentences -- and while these could be spun to sound natural when talking to a person, PTE AI requirements seem to be different, and just talking continuously non-stop seems to be the requirement. The test is almost designed to exploit my every weakness, from what I'm seeing.
So far, I'm completely clueless as to how people could get such high scores so easily. Either the poor scores for those few complicated tasks get watered down by other tasks (which still doesn't explain how so many people get 90), or the grading system is indeed just so incredibly lax (which sounds a bit too good to be true), or I don't know what.
Meanwhile, I have failed IELTS twice, which could be the universe telling me that I should move on. But on the other hand, the scores are barely below what I need, and the four 8s feel so within my reach. Furthermore, every time I did the test, there was something that objectively went wrong. First time I did the test, I was super-nervous on speaking to the point of total brain shutdown (honestly, 7.5 for that mess of a performance was a gift). While the second time, I was extremely unlucky with the tasks (I didn't even finish my writing and ended my essay mid-sentence because I didn't know what to write, and again getting a 7 for an essay that wasn't even complete was a kinda positive outcome), and on the speaking part I was very underslept and barely functional, and also unlucky with the part 2 task.
(I have no idea what went wrong on writing the first time: I was very lucky with the tasks and was certain I got 8.5+, now I think my biggest mistake was that I didn't try requesting a remark).
Lastly, I don't even feel like I need any preparation: I don't feel there's anything about the test that I don't know at this point, and it's all about getting lucky with questions, being in the right mental condition on the test day, and just hoping that they'll give me the scores I need. Meanwhile, I feel like it would take me months to prepare for PTE in order to be comfortable with it.
Sorry for the long rant. I just need some advice as to how I should proceed (which is obviously something that I'll have to decide on my own). The strictness of grading aside, I would choose IELTS any day of the week and twice on Sunday. The only way it could possibly be more accessible to me is if the grading is indeed THAT less strict on PTE. Is it really though?
P.S. Then the other thing that concerns me: there are people here on the sub who failed IELTS like 4 times in a row, which kinda suggests that they were in similar position to mine: believing that they were close to the scores they need but never ever getting it. And then doing PTE and getting 90-90-90-90 right away.
