2025.01.19 03:07 gonumby First Time PC ($1500 AUD) - Thoughts?
Hi, I'm looking to get a gaming pc that will last me a few years with some futureproofing potential if possible. I'm trying to stick to a roughly $1500AUD budget but am willing to increase it a bit, especially if the price-to-performance is worth the cost. I've paired it with i5 12400f and 7800 XT at the moment since it fits the budget. I don't mind going back a a few generation to save some costs. My main goal is to play games at 1080p60. For context, I normally play shooters like Apex Legends and Marvel Rivals at 720p30, so anything that can run at native and 60 fps is a blessing (currently on a 1650 laptop). I also want to try games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk but I haven't purchased any games of that sort since I'm worried it will run like shit on my laptop.
My concerns right now is if there is any bottleneck with the CPU and GPU provided and also whether the PSU and case are good enough for the budget. I haven't built a pc before so I'm also wondering if it's hard to build in a mATX "mini" tower.

Hey! I’m planning to make a brand new longterm vanilla Bedrock Realm that is set to normal/ hard difficulty on survival with achievements on and cheats off. I need 1-2 people to help manage the discord and the realm. So if you want to help me manage the realm/ discord include it in the part listed in the short google form application. (I have the first 30 days free and will cover the monthly realm costs after)
It will be purely vanilla with probably just one player sleep add on. (Maybe a couple other QoL mods later if needed) The playing style will be similar to Hermitcraft. No PVP unless in a dedicated arena, griefing, cheating/duping.
The world will be brand new when created so there will still be still tons do. (No rush to kill the ender dragon too) We will eventually have a shopping district(s), nether hub(s), and will be planning lots more big builds and events in the future!
Planning to make this a long term realm, so if you have been looking for a friendly and mature community to join and grow with this is the place for you!

In words where the “Dark L” sound /ɫ/ follows /ɪ/ or /uː/ (e.g., still, bill, milk, style; school, tool, cool), I find the "Dark L" sound very strong.
Without the dark L sound, the word would sound very different. For example, if the dark L in "school" is not pronounced, the word would sound like the first syllable of "scooter."
However, in words where the "Dark L" sound follows an /ə/, /ɔː/, or /ɑː/ (e.g., people, table, able, final, little; all, always, salt, also, ball), the dark L sound seems much weaker to me.
For example, "table" sounds like /ˈteɪbəʊ/ ("ble" rhymes with "go") to me.
Similarly, "also" (/ˈɔːlsəʊ/ or /ˈɑːlsoʊ/) sounds more like /ˈɔːsəʊ/ or /ˈɑːsəʊ/ where the “Dark L” is either not pronounced or very weak.
I can still hear the “Dark L” in the latter group, but it is MUCH weaker and more subtle compared to the former group.
Am I mishearing things, or is my perception partially valid? Is this a regional dialect thing?

Hello Edmonton! Future visitor with a couple of questions. I’ll (43m) be stopping through solo for a few days in July. My mother’s family all originates from Edmonton, but they’ve all been in BC since before I was born and I’m stopping in Edmonton as a sort of pilgrimage on the way home from a family event.
First issue - crime. I understand that Edmonton’s crime rate is a bit high for Canada. No judgment, I’ve lived in and around Baltimore for the last 20 years, and we get an equally bad rap (everyone assumes it’s all like The Wire). I’m assuming that like Baltimore and every other big city, other than being aware of your surroundings, it’s all about staying out of the wrong neighborhoods. What are the neighborhoods to avoid? Where should an ignorant out-of-owner stay?
Second - What are the things that I shouldn’t miss? My mother hasn’t lived there since the 70’s so her knowledge is a bit dated. Just looking around online I found some breweries along 99th Street and some hiking around Elk Island Nat. Park. I’m into outdoorsy stuff, breweries, interesting food, and local flavor.
