2025.01.19 14:01 g4b6e8c Very weird performance issue on Asus ROG Strix G733QS
Hello, my laptop's performance has been lower than expected. I have the model with NVIDIA RTX 3080 Laptop GPU, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, and 32GB of RAM, 300Hz Screen.
The issue is that in all of the games that I've played, the FPS hover around 80-150 or lower if it's a demanding AAA game. Even in non demanding games like League of Legends / Valorant / Marvel Rivals / random indie games. I play all these games in 1080p.
Now here's the weird thing. My GPU usage sits at around 40-60% and the CPU also sits at the 60% range. The thermals are okay: 50/70°C for the GPU and 70/80°C for the CPU while in game, so I'm pretty sure it isn't thermal throttling. The GPU and CPU usage seem low but nothing I did was able to fix it.
Another weird thing is that when I lower the graphics (literally everything to the lowest setting) on the games mentioned above, the average FPS and GPU/CPU usage aren't changing.
On 3DMark's time spy benchmark, I get a score of 9 713 (9 953 GPU, 8 549 CPU) which is on the lower end of the curve and the average is about 11 600.
I've tried reinstalling Windows, updated every driver and BIOS, rolled back GPU drivers, disabled HAGS and HPET, uninstalling armory crate and using G-Helper. FPS are uncapped, and I'm using the dGPU on every game. The issue persists and I cannot find what's causing this.

2025.01.19 14:01 endwithaswirl He’s my best friend
I know that I need to end the relationship for us both but I am so terrified.
We have been together for almost a decade, have both been by each other’s side during hard times, we do not argue, only have discussions. He genuinely cares about me and I about him. I’ve supported him through his sobriety, getting his degree, navigating family issues.
I have had enough bad relationships to know I have it very good.
We haven’t had sex in 5 years. Prior to that, we would have sex very rarely, we have never been passionate like that. We don’t kiss. We don’t cuddle. We sleep back to back if we even sleep at the same time. We are literally best friends that are saying we are a couple. Love was always showed through actions and words.
I don’t see us repairing this. I believe we have been complacent in our relationship and I have turned more into a caretaker than a partner. The problem is since I genuinely enjoying being around him and spending time with him, I don’t think he thinks there is any problem. Meanwhile, I am already done with the relationship and am just trying to navigate the next steps.
I have never left someone I genuinely love and am happy with. But I hate when he touches me now, and I mean even a hug. I feel like it’s forced and just going through the motions. I know this is going to blindside him and I am so afraid for his mental health and sobriety.
I know what I have to say. I just don’t know how to do it. Or when to do it. I feel like I’m going to ruin his life. I hope that he’s in the same position I am and I’ll be doing him a favor but I’m so terrified he’s going to relapse or worse. I just don’t know how to hurt someone who would die before he hurt me.

2025.01.19 14:01 Low-Nefariousness852 Best uni for history? Advice for an American student?
Hi! I'm an American undergrad student pursuing my Bachelor's in History-Literature. I really want to move to the UK for graduate school and want to study medieval/early modern history, but I'm not sure which programs to apply to. Right now my top contenders are Edinburgh and Bristol, but I'd love any input on other places to look!
Also, I'm looking for places that are "friendly" to international students. Ideally I'd be a part-time student so that I can also work and support myself (I've heard the cost of living is crazy...) and I want to attend a uni/be in a city where that's easily possible.
Also also, does anyone have any advice on getting work authorization for international students?
Thanks!

2025.01.19 14:01 Sir_David_Davidson More important than a woman's reaction to you is YOUR REACTION to their reaction!
Hi, David here!
Many inexperienced men believe that if they show interest, e.g. ask a girl out or try to kiss her, and the girl does not reciprocate, then it is game over.
The truth is that it all depends on your reaction to her reaction. If you go for the kiss and she turns her cheek to you, and you react by being hurt or overly apologetic, then it may likely be game over.
Same also goes if you get all sulky and butt-hurt if she turns you down for a date. But if you instead react by smiling, shrug it off, and continue the conversation as if nothing had happened, then your self-confidence may generate more attraction than if you had actually gotten what you wanted in the first place.
The most important thing when it comes to asking someone out is to do so in a low pressure way where you communicate to the other person that you will not be upset if they say no.
The longer you wait to ask someone out, the more likely it is that you will become more invested in the relationship's outcome. This will only make it harder for you to remain cool and nonreactive when interacting with the person. So quit putting it off and go for it already!
BTW, I just finished putting together my dating advice eBook "How to Date Any Girl" version 4.0 and would LOVE to get some honest feedback from you!
I decided to give it away for free for the time being.
The eBook is 27 pages long and gives you a practical step-by-step solution to meeting women (15+ years of knowledge put into it).
You can get the eBook by clicking here!
This book is the result of going out and socializing with girls for over a decade. I have put in there all the fundamentals I have learned over that time so I would really appreciate all the feedback I could get!!
What are your thoughts? Do you have any tips to add?
Let's discuss in the comments :)
Thanks for reading and have a GREAT day!

2025.01.19 14:01 considerthis8 If a single person was a microcosm of a nation or religion
JP always talks about microcosms for understanding complex systems. Thought it would be fun to see chatgpt create a microcosm of the strategies nations and religious movements used to gain significant capital and influence. Hope you enjoy:
1. Roman Republic/Empire - Start small but ambitious. Begin with a modest job or business in a competitive industry, then expand by acquiring competitors or securing strategic partnerships. Use discipline, innovation, and adaptability to dominate. Ex) A junior lawyer who builds a network, wins cases, and eventually becomes a major firm partner or starts his own empire. 2. Dutch Republic - Innovate and invest. Take calculated risks by pooling resources with friends or partners to launch a business or invest in emerging markets. Use technology or financial tools to maximize returns. Ex) A programmer who starts an e-commerce platform with friends, leveraging modern tools like dropshipping or digital marketing to scale rapidly. 3. United States of America - Seize opportunities and expand. Take bold risks, such as investing in real estate, starting a business, or upskilling for a high-growth industry. Use grit and adaptability to thrive in a competitive environment. Ex) A factory worker who studies software engineering at night, lands a tech job, and invests in rental properties. 4. Japan - Modernize and specialize. Start with little, learn rapidly, and adapt to new systems. Leverage education, emerging industries, and disciplined habits to rebuild and grow wealth steadily. Ex) A craftsman who reinvents himself as an engineer, creating precision tools or technology products for niche markets. 5. Portugal - Explore and diversify. Venture into uncharted territories in your career or investments. Specialize in something undervalued but profitable, then dominate that niche. Ex) A man who moves abroad to capitalize on new opportunities in developing markets or untapped industries like renewable energy. 6. British Empire - Leverage scale and control. Build a career or business by delegating tasks and acquiring assets. Use influence, branding, and marketing to create dominance in your field. Ex) A retailer who builds a chain of stores, franchising operations to maximize income while reducing workload. 7. Soviet Union - Rapidly industrialize. Start from almost nothing by investing in education, hard work, and resource accumulation. Focus on high-yield, high-effort strategies to create value quickly. Ex) A man who works multiple jobs, invests aggressively in the stock market, and reinvests profits into side businesses like consulting or property flipping. 8. Spain - Exploit newfound opportunities. Identify a high-yield windfall (inheritance, windfall investments, or untapped markets) and capitalize on it aggressively to grow wealth. Ex) Someone who inherits a small business, reinvents it, and expands into new, profitable markets like online retail or tourism. 9. South Korea - Rebuild strategically. Overcome adversity by investing in personal skills and aligning with high-growth industries. Leverage government programs, mentorship, or community support to grow sustainably. Ex) A man who grew up in poverty but gets a scholarship, learns coding, and creates an app that scales into a global business. 10. Islamic Caliphates - Network and innovate. Start by building strong community ties and leverage collective resources. Invest in education, trade, and intellectual pursuits to create lasting wealth. Ex) A 30-year-old who starts a non-profit that grows into a profitable consultancy, reinvesting profits into education and research initiatives. 11. Christian Communities - Build wealth through community and service. Focus on creating value for others—teaching, mentoring, or organizing community initiatives—while reinvesting earnings into scalable endeavors. Ex) A man who starts a small community service project (e.g., tutoring or wellness) that grows into a profitable educational platform, earning both income and social capital. 12. Jewish Communities - Focus on education and niche expertise. Develop skills or enter industries with barriers to entry but high rewards (e.g., tech, finance). Leverage trusted networks for support and collaboration. Ex) A man who becomes a financial advisor, uses his expertise to help underserved communities, and builds a reputation for integrity, leading to steady growth in wealth and influence.

2025.01.19 14:01 philop Is a 2017+ worth the cost?
Clean examples seem to be going for around 20k, feels like a lot of cash for a 8 year old car that MSRP'd around 26k. I know the the refreshed models get a lot of praise, but are they worth the extra cost over getting an older one in the low teens?
