2025.01.19 16:01 Plus_Quarter_2808 Anyone notice how most of C418’s discography isn’t available on Instagram as neither audio nor music?
Hey fellow Redditors!
I've noticed that most of C418's discography, which we all love and enjoy, isn't available on Instagram - neither as audio clips nor music tracks. It's such a bummer because his compositions, especially from Minecraft, are iconic and would be great to share in stories or posts. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I missing something? Maybe there are workarounds or reasons behind this? Any insights or advice on this issue would be appreciated!

2025.01.19 16:01 Einav156 How to be kind and understanding of others without losing yourself in the process?
Realising that everyone is human and need love Now everytime I , I feel like it made me develop a savior complex where I make I tried to be empathetic to others and it felt amazing at first, feeling connected to the entire universe, but it ended up draining me of all my energy, making me analyse and rationalize everything and every action of a person, overthink before speaking to others because I was so afraid of hurting them accidentaly, and although I thought I was getting closer with people, it made me so distant and lonely because I felt like floating through life, connected with everyone but actually connected to no one at all, because if everyone is "the same", equaly deserve love and understanding how can you connect with anyone? A part of me wishes I never got into spirituality, because all it gave me was one amazing half a year and then a mental breakdown. I want to live life and feel loved, not to understand life and love everyone. Does anyone relate to that?

2025.01.19 16:01 arrow-bane The Wandering God - War - Chapter 34: Scouts
Morgan found the captain she was assigned to who passed her on to a lieutenant who assigned her a tent and told her to meet him in the same place tomorrow morning for an assignment. Morgan asked if she would be fighting tomorrow and he had said they would be going through drills and setting the units explaining she would probably be in the camp for a few days. Morgan wished she had stayed up all night now. The lieutenant mentioned she would be sharing the tent with a girl that was also assigned to him today and apologized for not remembering the girl’s name. Morgan could see he was busy as it looked like he might be new to his role. Morgan had decided she should meet her tent mate before wandering around the camp. Morgan entered the tent to find another girl spread out on one of the coats reading. Morgan was surprised she was completely naked. Morgan thought she looked lovely with her dark black hair and a rich tan making her inherently dark skin darker. Morgan could see she was young but extremely fit. The girl lowered the book to look at her.
“Are you my tent mate?” The girl asked, smiling at Morgan and looking her over.
“I guess I am. Nice to meet you, I am Morgan.” Morgan said, smiling and giving an awkward wave as she moved into the tent and closed the flap.
“Well, nice to meet you Morgan. I am Besna. What class are you?” Besna asked with a smile. Morgan set down some of her gear.
“I am an Archer primarily. What about you?” Morgan asked.
“I am a Spear Master. How long have you been fighting for?” Besna asked.
“I just arrived. They teleported us in from Osta on Ibrix. Only been on Ur a few months. How long have you been here?” Morgan responded.
“You are an arrival?” Besna asked, staring at Morgan.
“Yeah, I come from a planet we called Earth.” Morgan replied.
“I am an arrival. We also called our planet earth. It is kinda weird this planet is called Ur.” Besna replied. Morgan laughed.
“Yeah, until I was here I never thought it was weird we used the same word for dirt or ground to name the whole planet.” Morgan replied.
“I thought everyone spoke my native tongue for the first few weeks.” Besna said.
“Did you not arrive in a temple?” Morgan asked.
“No, I nearly died of dehydration but I was saved by the Centaurs of the Thunder Plains Clan. I spent most of a year training there to become a member of their tribe before the Kamakura Shogunate passed through collecting people for this war.” Besna responded.
“You lived among a centaur tribe?” Morgan asked, feeling a little jealous.
“Yeah, I used to live in a really strict religious culture. So at first it was really weird but I got used to it and now I feel it was really freeing. Is there something you want to know about centaurs?” Besna asked.
“No, I met some in Katra, where I arrived, some were from clans and living in a centaur clan sounded kinda interesting but they said humans were not generally allowed.” Morgan responded.
“I was the only human there. I arrived on Straya. Humans are rare there but because I was an arrival they took me in and let me join the clan. Part of me wants to go back one day.” Besna replied.
“Weird, I was one of the few humans in Katra. Wit, my teacher in Katra, related a strange story about an issue with an arrival. I wonder if there was something that caused us to arrive in unusual locations.” Morgan responded.
“I wouldn’t even know where to start to try and figure that out.” Besna replied.
“Yeah, too bad our planet had such a boring name.” Morgan responded.
“Oh, well there are more powerful people to deal with it here right. The goddess will take care of it.” Besna replied, smiling and liking the concept of a goddess.
“Fair enough. I woke up a few hours ago. What do you do for fun here?” Morgan asked.
“I like to go running through the camp naked. It really riles up some of the people around here.” Besna replied with a straight face.
“What?” Morgan replied, looking shocked and feeling appalled by the idea. Besna started laughing.
“You should see your face. Oh, that was great.” Besna said after a moment getting control. “Seriously, though there is a tent where everyone gathers, they serve alcohol, there are games, and other things. Let me put some clothing on and I will show you too it… where it is.”
Besna god dressed and Morgan decided to remove her armor before they headed over to a tent where people were gathered all around. “You can find the way back right?” Besna asked.
“Yeah, thanks.” Morgan replied.
“K, just don’t bring anyone back to the tent.” Besna said, turning to leave.
“I won’t. Bye.” Morgan responded, watching Besna go, thinking she seemed kind of odd.
“Later.” Besna replied, over her shoulder not turning around. Morgan turned and eyed the tent. Morgan could hear music, seeing a raised platform with a few people on it and saw people dancing on one side of the tent that looked a bit more like a pavilion but could see where the edge was rolled up. The weather was nice so they had opened it up. Down the middle there was a series of tables with food and drinks being served but mostly drinks. She could see a section where couples were paired off and she saw what appeared to be gambling tables. Morgan wasn’t surprised and realized this is what she should have expected. Morgan turned to leave not feeling in the mood for the available activities. Morgan decided to see if she could find a shooting range or somewhere to practice magic. Morgan spent the next hour walking around the camp looking for a spot before she found the open range.
Morgan looked around to see if anyone was there and did not spot anyone but also could not locate practice bows or arrows without opening crates but decided that was probably ill advised. Morgan considered going to get her bow but decided she did not want to wake Besna up. Morgan understood the principles of conjuring a bow and had done it a few times but knew it was not a good replacement for a bow. Arrows were easy. She understood how to make a good arrow but making a good bow was a craft its own. She understood the principles of making a good bow but had never really done it. Morgan took a moment to concentrate before summoning the bow. Morgan looked at the bow, which glowed faintly. Morgan frowned. She did not want the bow to glow because it made her an easy target. She wanted it to be shadow but everytime she conjured it the bow still glowed. It was fainter this time but still glowing. Morgan aimed it down range and conjured a shadow arrow. Morgan’s eyes went wide in rage. She wanted to yell but it was late so she held her tongue. Morgan focused on preparing to fire and wanted to repeatedly conjure arrows as she fired without drawing from a quiver. Morgan took a deep breath and released it as she started. Morgan shot six arrows in quick succession with all but one hitting the target as Morgan lost focus half-way through the six shot frustrated because all the arrows were a different color. Morgan realized she was anxious about being her and that was expressing itself in unexpected ways.
Morgan sat down and started meditating to calm her mind. She knew it was a bad idea to keep using magic with her emotional fluctuations. Magic needed focus and if she lost focus in the wrong way it could have a disastrous outcome. Morgan was not overly concerned about that with bow practice as it was a rather minor spell using little energy so any negative reaction would be unlikely to have a serious issue. This was not the first time the conjuration had fallen apart but she knew if she was doing something big and lost focus it could potentially be really bad. Morgan slowed her breathing and spent what she thought was half an hour meditating. After which, she felt much better. Morgan was still anxious but it was focused and the distraction of it was distant, more just worries about the coming days then the visceral fear she had been feeling. Morgan focused and conjured the bow again. This time it was a dark wood, but still had a faint glow but this was more of a blacklight glow than the faint silver of before. Morgan conjured arrows and it was the same black arrow her first shot had been. Morgan prepared her mind for the repeated action and started firing. Morgan felt her energy drain as she fired each arrow down range, each hitting the target a few bullseyes but all in the actual target. She moved to the next target after her twelfth shot. Morgan realized this was a good way to wear herself out. Morgan shot another twelve then moved to the next target. She felt the power draining her but she wanted to push as far as she could. Morgan found that after her fiftieth shot her original arrows had started to disappear and she had slowed. Her pace had been fast going through two targets in under two minutes now she was taking a few minutes to go through one target. Morgan managed to push herself past seventy successive shots before she stopped and released the tension of the repeated act.
“Very impressive. I counted seventy-three shots in total.” Morgan heard a deep masculine voice say. Morgan turned to where the voice came from and saw a man sitting on one of the crates. He was wearing a dark green cloak.
“Who are you?” Morgan asked.
“Rowland Hawkins but my friends just call me Hawk. Ranger and scout of his royal majesty's army. M’lady, I apologize if I startled you. May I get your name?” Hawk asked with a smile. Morgan looked him over and his hair was mostly gray. He did not look all that impressive. He had an unstrung longbow and a short sword with a quiver. His hood was down but she could still see the age in his face under the moonlight and faint torchlight. Morgan noticed he was a little shorter than her.
“I am Domino Morgan but I prefer to go by Morgan. Sorry, I thought I was alone. I am done if you want to practice.” Morgan responded.
“No, not tonight. I was just doing the rounds.” Hawk replied with a smile.
“Oh sorry, Sir I missed your rank, are you a member of the Teaniel Court?” Morgan asked, not remembering him giving a rank but he did say majesty’s army, which was weird she thought as Teaniel called itself an empire so why not his emperor army.
“No rank, M’lady. Not any more. Just a soldier now. I sometimes forget. I was a member of the Northumbria court but that is no more and likely has no heir.” Hawk responded, holding back the emotion of the memories.
“Oh. I am going to leave if that is alright.” Morgan said feeling tired and a bit awkward with the stranger. No one liked to see another cry and Morgan did not feel equipped to handle it if this stranger started crying.
“Please do not let me hold you up. May I ask one thing before you go?” Hawk responded, focusing on the conversation as the emotion passed.
“Sure.” Morgan replied.
“Who is your commanding officer?” Hawk asked.
“Lieutenant Garth.” Morgan replied.
“Good lad he is. His captain is Sosinna, right?” Hawk asked.
“I think she goes by Captain Inna.” Morgan replied.
“That’s right. Inna. She is quite the swords woman. She prefers sword and shield but when she ditches the shield and goes all out she is a terror.” Hawk responded.
“Why do you ask?” Morgan replied.
“Well, it would be a right waste to put you on guard duty with your skills. If you weren’t part of a scout team I was gonna try and convince you to join one. Would not mind having an archer with me that can conjure some extra arrows if there is a need if it is only for yourself. Can you do more than the black ones?” Hawk asked, Morgan realized he had an accent that felt vaguely familiar and a funny way of phrasing things.
“I can conjure light arrows, and flaming arrows.I have a few other trick arrows, they are a bit more complicated so I can only do a few of them.” Morgan replied.
“Anything interesting?” Hawk asked.
“A few but I don’t want to brag and I don’t know you.” Morgan replied.
“Wise to keep it to yourself.” Hawk said. Morgan found him to be a little strange. He was clearly old but looked like he took care of himself.
“I wouldn’t want to give someone the time to create a counter. I am not familiar with the history of Northumbria. Would you mind telling me a bit about it?” Morgan responded.
“Not much to say. We were not a large kingdom. We had a few big cities with walls but there had been general peace for a long time. So most of our population were small farms near the cities. We barely had time to retreat to the cities before the drakes arrived in our lands and they had the numbers to overrun us easily. They did not kill most of the population, instead enslaving them. It was a long time ago now, but we were done for within a year.” Hawk said, in a morose tone.
“So are you one of the slaves they freed?” Morgan asked.
“No, I was young and managed to escape even with all the fighting. Spent years trying to convince anyone who would listen to fight but none of the rulers would listen. Eventually, made my way to Atios. Ten years ago I would have said I was a coward but I was just practical. I would probably be dead if I had stayed.” Hawk said, in a defeated tone.
“You lived to fight another day. Sometimes that is the best outcome.” Morgan responded. She had been hoping for more but she wasn’t sure what she had expected and she could see he did not really want to talk about it. “I should get to bed. It will probably be an early morning tomorrow.” Morgan said, moving to leave.
"Good night, Morgan.” Hawk said, standing up and moving to a firing position. Morgan glanced back as she was leaving the practice grounds and saw him walking down range to collect his arrows. She had not heard a sound but he had managed to empty his quiver in just a few moments and she wondered what level ranger he was but she was feeling tired after using all that magic so she headed to her tent and passed out on the bed. Besna woke her up and they got breakfast together. Morgan noticed there were about forty people waiting for Garth when he showed up with Captain Inna and Hawk.
“Good Morning, Platoon. I am going to put you all through some test before putting you in four person units. Before we start, Captain Inna wanted to say a few words.” Garth said, stepping aside. Morgan didn’t really listen to Inna. She was looking around at the others trying to gauge the group herself and looking at them none seemed battle hardened. She counted twelve women and twenty-six men.
“Soldiers, it appears the drakes are in full retreat. We believe they are falling back to the drakes' great wall. We want you to scout with other units ahead of the main force to ensure we are not being drawn in by the drakes. Our intel says there has been another change in the leader of our enemy. You will be getting scouting assignments tomorrow. If you do well as a platoon we may keep you otherwise this will get broken up and sent to other postings once the camp has finished moving. Good Luck. Lieutenant Garth.” Inna said seeing there was a lack of discipline but not surprised because the army had lots of irregular troops now. Besna clapped at the end of the speech, which got several people looking at Besna and Morgan, while a few others joined Besna being unsure what to do. Morgan noticed Hawk smile at the awkwardness of the group.
“Stand at attention!” Garth said forcefully as Inna walked away. Morgan looked at someone who knew what that meant and matched them then looked at Besna, who did not really change her stance but seemed a bit formal. Besna stood with her feet apart, knees slightly bent but had her spear leaning against the back of her right shoulder. Garth frowned, looked around and Morgan thought Hawk was gauging them. “Master Hawk, please lead them to the training grounds. Platoon fall in behind Master Hawk.” Morgan watched as Hawk vanished causing several to gasp. Morgan felt someone was moving behind her. She turned to see Besna was the closet behind Hawk and was surprised at how quickly both had moved. Morgan started to follow with several others but Hawk, Besna and one other were already ten or fifteen feet away moving at a good pace. She moved to catch up as Hawk led them through the tents. Morgan slowed as a line narrowed making sure to keep track of Hawk as the line moved into a single file group. It took longer than Morgan initially expected then realized he was leading them on a roundabout path to the grounds after about half an hour they arrived in the training grounds. Morgan saw Besna had retained her position behind Hawk. Morgan moved over by her as the group mulled around. Morgan saw Hawk watching her as he approached Besna.
“Good job, you took off pretty fast after him.” Morgan said, giving Besna a smile.
“Thanks, I used a skill, which feels a bit like cheating.” Besna replied.
“If you have it, use it. An enemy will.” Hawk said, having moved close to them.
“Good Morning, Master Hawk.” Morgan responded as he interjected.
“Morning, Morgan. Who is your friend?” Hawk asked.
“Allow me to introduce you to Besna, we happen to be assigned to the same tent.” Morgan answered.
“A pleasure, Besna. If you will excuse us. I would like to have Morgan present first.” Hawk said, smiling. Morgan frowned, allowing Hawk to lead her to the firing line. Morgan saw a complicated setup with moving targets and several trick shots.
“Good Morning, Garth’s Scouts. I am Master Hawk. I was a Ranger of Northumbria. Some of you might know what that means. I am now one of the scouting corps testers and trainers. We will be determining your skill, and potential roles. Understand, we do not have the luxury of turning away volunteers. So I need to find a way to cobble you lot into teams, and squads, so you can fulfill your assignments. Today you work because tomorrow you will hunt. I was lucky enough to see some of you practicing as you arrived. To that end, I have decided Morgan will be starting us off.” Morgan watched as a few people from the initial group arrived while he spoke. “Oh, and you four that arrived last. Go see Garth over there.” Hawk said pointing to Garth how it looked like he had walked over and she realized they were only a few tents away from where they had started.
“Master Hawk, are you wanting a show or all business.” Morgan asked, moving close to him. He smiled at her question.
“I got a show last night. All business this morning.” Hawk replied quietly. Morgan nodded and strung her bow then looked over to where the arrows, counted the twenty targets, and collected one arrow for each, she moved back to the firing line.
“When you are ready.” Hawk replied. Morgan took a deep breath thinking about what Hawk said she activated her enhanced rapid fire skill sent ten arrows down range in blur of movement, activating trick shot she shot her eleven arrow. She heard the ten arrows hit the easiest targets almost simultaneously followed by the dull thud of the eleven arrow hitting what appeared to be a nearly impossible target that was swinging behind several other swinging targets. There was a low gasp from behind her as she slowed to a fast pace for a skilled archer letting the enhanced rapid fire deactivate. She then hit each swinging target moving from back to front. Last was two targets moving in near perfect unison. Morgan had only registered the second target because of the track behind the first one. Based on what she could see Morgan expected the second target was smaller. She caught a glimpse of the stand moving but could not see the target so she had to make an educated guess on the location. Morgan fired at the first one getting a bullseye and then activated trick shot and presion shot as she drew back the string for the last target. Morgan smiled knowing the last month of practice had paid off and that without the skills she had obtained she could not have done as well as she had on most of these. Morgan loosed the arrow and saw it vanish behind the front target. Morgan heard groans of a few people behind her and some snickering.
Hawk gave a sharp whistle and a few people moved from the outer edges in protected positions to retrieve the arrows stopping the moving targets and moving the two that were in unison out of unison to reveal Morgan had hit and just missed the bullseye. There were audible gasps as people realized she had seen something most of them had not. Morgan turned to smile at Hawk and heard someone start clapping she saw Besna smiling at her looking impressed as they rest started to clap some begrudgingly. Morgan moved over to Besna, returning her smile.
“That was very impressive. I did not even see that second target.” Besna said, trying to hide her own concern.
“Thank you.” Morgan smiled, but felt herself blushing a bit. The group fell silent as a runner handed Hawk a note and then moved back across the field as the targets were being reset.
“Thank you, Morgan for the strong start. Thirteen bullseyes, one for each of my easy targets, one on my second hardest target and two more otherwise. How many skills did you use?” Hawk asked.
“Four, two on the last target.” Morgan replied.
“Well done. I don’t expect all of you to perform at that level. Morgan you are the third highest level here, assuming everyone was honest on their paperwork. However, not all of you have archery classes but you did pass a basic archery test. So I don’t expect everyone to perform at that level. Once two of you are done you will head to the obstacle course then report to Garth.” Hawk said point off to one side of the grounds where others were running a course in pairs as there were several points where they clearly expected it to take two working together to get through the course. “Besna, if I could have you go second.” Hawk said. Morgan unstrung her bow as Besna collected arrows, taking a few more than Morgan did. Besna set her spear to the side and strung her bow. Morgan watched Hawk as Besna shot and noticed how he was not watching the arrows. Morgan realized he was watching how Besna held the bow, drew arrows, and her movements as she aimed and fired. When she finished Morgan watched him nod approvingly. Morgan clapped for Besna not having really paid attention to her shots but feeling it was the right thing to do. “Besna, how many skills did you use?” Hawk asked after she finished.
“I don’t have the archer class or any ranged skills.” Besna replied.
“Well for not having any skill, you have good form. Who taught you to shoot?” Hawk asked, and Morgan wondered if this was a show on his part.
“The centaurs of the Thunder Plains Clan.” Besna responded, glancing at the only centaur in the group who seemed to examine Besna with surprise. Hawk gave a knowing nod and accepted the note from the runner.
“Seven bullseye’s, and a total of eighteen hits with twenty three arrows. You did not get either of the two hardest but without skills you would have to be truly exceptional to have gotten those. Well done. Now off to the obstacle course.” Hawk said, looking at a paper he had before calling out another name. Morgan and Besna worked together moving through the obstacle course moving through with a slightly above average time for those going through with it taking a little over thirty minutes as they had to do a few laps on the course. Once they finished they went to Garth and he asked a few additional questions about their education in general and any other things they have learned to do taking a few notes. He asked them to stay nearby. Morgan and Besna sat in a nearby tent for shade watching the others complete the archery test.
“How do you know Master Hawk?” Besna asked.
“I don’t not really. I practiced last night before returning to the tent. So I only met him last night.” Morgan replied.
“Was the whole test running last night?” Besna asked.
“No, I was just shooting at stationary targets to wear myself out.” Morgan replied.
“Ok, did you shoot a lot of arrows last night then?” Besna asked.
“Not the traditional kind. I have learned some magic. So I conjured a bow and arrows.” Morgan responded.
“Cool. The centaurs did not have a mage will to train me until I was a member of the clan but I left shortly after becoming a clan member. Would you teach me?” Besna asked.
“Sure, I will teach you what I can. Just be aware I am only starting out.” Morgan said.
“That is ok. I would really like to learn what I can.” Besna responded excitedly. Morgan walked her through casting the light spell helping her practice. Besna’s light spell took the form of a ball of fire once she actually succeeded. Morgan explained how she had built up to large things and Besna kept practicing the spell and trying to hold it as long as she could. Morgan talked with Besna about forming magic, how she can use other people's magic spells, but if she can learn to formulate spells on her own spells then the spells can have greater potential based on her personal skill in harnessing all the aspects of the spell. Morgan showed her book to Besna with a few of her own spells and how she had written out intentions of the spell. Besna had called light several times initially lengthening how long she could hold it but now it was clear Besna was getting tired. Morgan had practiced conjuring arrows. Besna had asked lots of questions about it thinking conjuring a spear or shield would be extremely useful. They were there for over an hour with most the platoon that had finished joining them. Morgan noticed that it appeared the rest of the platoon had been gathered and were brought into the shade led by Hawk.
“Besna, I think something is happening.” Morgan said, to get Besna’s attention.
“Maybe they are gonna give us our teams.” Besna said, sitting up.
“Eyes up here, Platoon. I will be giving you team assignments. Hawk will speak with each group explaining your intended role in the team, squad, and platoon. First team is Besna Lotfi, Domino Morgan, Polone, and Sundew Mossyfield. Group up with your team once assigned. First team, gather by Hawk.” Morgan and Besna moved to Hawk with a centaur and what they thought was a fairy. Garth continued to assign other groups together then telling them where to gather in the Pavilion. Once they were all near Hawk he spoke directly to them.
“Besna, is a spear master and will be your team’s close combat leader should you encounter any.” Hawk said, nodding at Besna. “Polone is a forester and healer. She will be your group's tracker along with healing.” Hawk said, indicating the Centaur. “Sundew will be working as back up for any close combat and tracking as he is a huntsman and guard.” Hawk indicated the fairy. “Lastly, is Morgan who is your group’s best archer based on today’s performance and will be your magic support. Morgan, if you have not learned any counter magic or protection magic find me once we are done and I will get you with someone today to give you some guidance. Get to know each other as tomorrow you will be heading out on an assignment.” Hawk spoke quickly then left moving to another group.
“I expect we have various overlapping skills.” Sundew said. Sundew stood about four feet tall, with skin that appeared to be more like wood looking much like bark, along with a pair of insectoid wings, but otherwise was shaped like a human. He had faintly masculine features in his face. All of them wore personalized leather armor except Morgan whose leather armor looked factory made.
“I am sorry. I am an arrival to Ur. May I ask your race or is that considered rude?” Besna asked, looking at Sundew.
“I am a Spriggan. We are often grouped in with fairies. It is not rude and if you call me a fairy it is not technically wrong. I assume you are human, correct?” Sundew asked.
“Yes.” Besna replied.
“However, we can both tell that you and this one are not the same kind of human, right?” Sundew asked.
“Yes, I would say I am arabic or persian.” Besna said, pronouncing them in farsi with her accent.
“And you?” Sundew asked Morgan.
“I would say caucasian with celtic heritage.” Morgan replied.
“So you can call me a fairy but I consider myself a spriggan just as you have your own words for your type of human. Does that make sense?” Sundew responded.
“Yes, thank you.” Besna replied.
“We should do introductions. I will start. I am Domino Morgan but I go by Morgan. I am an archer and mage. I arrived on Ur a little over a month ago and only joined this army a few days ago. Before arriving I taught my native language outside of my country.” Morgan said, smiling at them.
“Ah, yes. This is good. I am Polone. I am a centaur of the Iron Clan of Atios. We range near Katra in Atios. I have been with the army for nearly six months. I have mostly been healing and seen some combat. I recently requested a change of posting. I was a forester and healer for my clan.” Polone said she was light skinned with a brown coat of fur and blonde hair.
“I am Besna. I arrived on Ur about seven months ago and was saved by the centaur Thunder Plains Clan of Straya. I passed the Clan’s acceptance challenges and was made an honorary member before joining this army. I have been with the army for a few weeks mostly acting as a camp guard.” Besna said following Polone.
“I am Sundew. I have been working with others to free slaves from the Xalas empire for the better part of a decade. We operated through Grofeas and the Teaniel Empire. I was made a huntsman by a lord of Teanial and given a house position to help free slaves from the drakes. I was assigned to Garth as a favor to Captain Inna. I am pleased to be serving with this group, as I see a lot of potential.” Sundew said, after considering them a moment.
“So are you familiar with the territory?” Morgan asked.
“No, I operated close to the Teanial border, which is a few hundred miles away now. We never ranged more than a day's travel into drake lands.” Sundew replied.
“I am rather inexperienced in combat and it sounds like Besna might be as well?” Morgan asked, looking at Besna.
“Yeah, I have only been in one real fight.” Besna admitted.
“So I will be looking to you two for guidance. I have worked hard to make sure I am prepared to fight and believe I have seen enough to know I can handle myself. I also understand I need to keep up if something does go wrong in the field and it is my responsibility to keep myself alive.” Morgan said, looking meaningfully at Polone and Sundew.
“I think that is well said and I agree with your sentiment.” Besna responded.
“I have led people into battle many times before.” Sundew said.
“I have fought some but with my skills as a healer I often find myself in backline positions. So it appears it would be best to allow Sundew to lead our team until we get a better feeling for each other.” Polone responded.
“Well said. We may find another is better at leading us as we get more acquainted. In the meantime, I will attempt to do my best. To that end there is a natural ability I should share with you.” Sundew said and started to grow taller and bigger. In just a moment he stood at about seven feet tall looking like a dangerous warrior, with even his clothing adjusting for his size. “As a spriggan I can change my size. I find it easier to show rather than just tell. There are limitations and it can take a lot out of me to maintain for hours on end.” Sundew said, shrinking back down after a moment.
“That wasn’t a spell?” Morgan said surprised.
“After a manner it was but all fairies can do similar things. It can express itself in different ways and many of my race prefer to take on smaller forms than this. Admittedly, when I am not constantly in a warzone I usually stand at about six inches tall but I have found that to be problematic in a mixed army and I can stay at this size probably permanently. Just don’t be surprised if I grow in close combat as it is extremely useful.” Sundew said.
“Well, anyone else got a special ability they want to share with the group?” Polone asked, looking impressed with Sundew.
“Two things. I used to suffer from vasovagal syncope, which means I used to faint at the sight of blood. I visited a butchers shop everyday, until I overcame it, but I worry I might have another episode at an undesirable time. Also, I recently got a mage skill I have not used but might be extremely useful. I can summon a large rock and drop it from a great height. It is called Meteor.” Morgan said.
“Well if you feel a fainting episode coming on and can give us any amount of warning that might be helpful. As for the Meteor, how big are we talking?” Sundew asked.
“I have not properly tested it as I get the sense it could potentially be really big.” Morgan replied.
“We should find somewhere to test it.” Besna said excitedly.
“I agree but without knowing how powerful it is it is wise to be careful. Either of you got anything?” Sundew asked.
“Nothing I think of as special.” Besna said.
“No for me as well.” Polone replied.
“Well, we should spend some time getting to know each other then.” Morgan said. The others agreed and they went to get dinner together. Morgan related her time in Katra and Osta followed by Polone telling them some stories about growing up in a roaming centaur clan and visiting Katra every year or so for trade. Explaining her clan would hunt monsters for bounties and even explored ruins having located a few that seemed to have been abandoned for decades. Besna related her tale of living with the Thunder plains clan and even talked about growing up before arriving on Ur, which Morgan had left out. Sundew spoke about becoming a huntsman explaining before that he had never really bothered with the class system because fairies live long lives and in their communities they enjoy taking the time to learn skills. They all wanted to make the team work and each of them found things in the stories told to like about each other. They ate dinner together and talked until the sun was going down when they all headed to their tents. The following morning they packed up and were prepared to leave when they met Garth for assignments.
He checked over their gear with the help of a few of his platoon, making Sundew his second in command. Morgan noticed Hawk was not with them today. Garth led them past a quartermasters tent on their way out of camp getting everyone a supply of arrows and eight days rations having everyone carry two days on them and the rest packed onto horses. Once they got to the edge of the camp he explained they had been assigned an area to scout. He provided maps to every team handing out a total of nine maps with each team also getting three flaring arrows from a specially marked quiver he had gotten at the quartermaster. He had marked locations for them all to scout and gave them instructions on what to do if they encountered enemies, then gave them a location further out to meet at, if none of them encountered enemies. If a flare arrow was shot into the sky the need to move to support the team that shot the arrow. Garth then had them split while he stayed with a team that was carrying additional supplies. His group was the only one with horses, most of which carried their food rations along with other equipment he had gotten from the quartermaster to support their scouting mission.
Sundew had Polone lead them out as the teams spread out. They moved quickly for the first few miles then slowed down partially because Morgan was struggling a little to keep pace with them. It wasn’t that she wasn’t fit, she just had not run for a whole day with her gear during any part of her training. They also realized they had covered almost fourteen miles and were nearly to their area with lunch approaching. Lastly, based on what Garth had told them they expected to eat dinner with him and only had four or five miles to go to get to the evening’s meeting place. They had not encountered anything so they stopped and ate together while keeping a lookout. They then covered the remaining mile to their final location and spent two hours watching over several homes and a gate entrance to a town. They observed movement in the area but there was no formal army it appeared and they did not spot any large groups of drakes or drakes in general. After discussing it, they covered Polone as she used her substantial top speed over them to reach a few slaves and speak to them before waving the others over. They took down the reports of drakes fleeing and removed the slave collars from the slaves there offering to take them back to their Lieutenant, which a few decided to go with them, well some decided to remain and see if they could find other slaves and free them. Morgan and Sundew gave the remaining slaves their swords since they were nothing special before they left to meet up with Garth, hoping he would give them replacements.
