Jake Barber’s military records don’t match his claims.

2025.01.20 04:00 AJP11B Jake Barber’s military records don’t match his claims.

Jake Barber’s military records don’t match his claims. Most of these screenshots are from the NewsNation interview. I’ll start with the claim from the article, “But Barber was no ordinary mechanic. Being recruited into the Air Force’s Elite Combat Control unit meant he had a résumé that reads like something out of an action thriller: helicopter pilot, freefall parachutist, expert marksman and the recipient of a NATO top-secret security clearance — a legacy of his service in Bosnia, for which he won an award for heroism.”
Here’s what doesn’t add up:
His DD214 shows he finished Basic Training as an Aerospace Mechanic in February of 1995 and received some very standard awards over his career. The second photo is his application to become a Trainee for Pararescue/Combat Control. This doesn’t say he served as Special Forces, just that he applied to try out for it. In order to serve in an Air Force SF unit you have to complete Army Airborne School. If he were to pass, he would have graduated the course in August 1996. The pipeline for an SF unit takes around two years.
He claims to have received an award for heroism while fighting in Bosnia. Problem is, fighting in Bosnia ended in October 1995… Almost a year before he would’ve left for Airborne School. If you look at the paperwork it’s not an award, it’s a recommendation for an award, and I believe he falsified it. I attached a photo from airforcewriter.com that states how to properly fill out the award recommendation. It clearly says to select the term that represents why the award is being recommended. It doesn’t say to select more than one. Section 1D shows the two categories for the award as “Meritorious Service” and “Heroism” with the reasons in Section 1E as “Separation” and “Heroism.” From my airforcewriter.com citation, it states that you may receive the award for a normal separation of service. His award recommendation dates are for 1995-2000 aka the years he served… I think he circled the “Heroism” part himself. I don’t doubt he may have taken part in peacekeeping missions in Bosnia since he has the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, but I doubt it was in an SF capacity. Also, why show the recommendation paperwork and not just the award itself?
As for his top-secret NATO clearance, here are the levels of clearances from most sensitive to least sensitive: Cosmic, Secret, Confidential, and Restricted. This paperwork, which doesn’t show his name anywhere, says Secret for crew and Confidential for NATO officers. Apparently UFO recovery doesn’t need a Cosmic clearance. Also, this was prepared in May 1996 for the 2nd Airlift Squadron at Pope AFB, three months before he would’ve gone to Airborne School, and the SF unit at Pope during that time was the 24th Special Tactics Squadron.
Nowhere does it say he was a military pilot. It doesn’t say he completed the Special Forces pipeline. Being an expert marksman in the military is not hard (I am one myself). His award paperwork is sus. And his alleged NATO clearance isn’t even the highest one available.
Feel free to add or correct anything. I just want the truth one day. I’m not telling you how to think, but I do want you to do it.

2025.01.20 04:00 lnebrich Desperate for tips

We sleep trained at 6 months, it was fantastic for a month and a half. Slept straight through the night no problem.
The 8 month “regression” hit at 7.5 months. Starting waking up in the night again. We tried all the sleep training tips and tricks and suddenly they didn’t work. Pop ins would make him lose his mind, crying it out would never end.
He just turned 9 months and it won’t end. He’s waking up minimum twice a night and has entirely lost the ability to put himself back to sleep. As I type this he’s on minute 10 of cry it out and there’s no end in sight.
Please dear god someone give me some tips or hope because I’m going to lose my ever loving mind 😭

2025.01.20 04:00 Fragrant_Ad6811 Advice on repairs post house fire

A couple of months back, our house caught fire and requires the first floor and the second floor (partially) to be gutted and re-done. I am thinking of putting my own money to get the first and second floor fully re-done and while we are at it make do an extension to the house.
Is this typically an issue for the insurance company (which holds back x% of the repair cost until repair is actually done) or the mortgage company ? I am looking to get more work done by putting in my own money but I also don't want to lose out on what the insurance has agreed to pay. I have been told by a few folks that insurance or lender might raise an objection and not release funds. Is that true? The house is going to be in a better state than earlier, so I dont see how lender would object to it.

2025.01.20 04:00 elliot_c126 Week 2 Reflection - Elliot C.

This week, I went over the week 2 and 3 action plans, mostly focused on the week 3 material regarding recursion since I was working on Quest 2. Since it's only been a couple of weeks since CS2A, I still recall most of the material and it was a pretty light review. Recursion has always been a bit of a struggle for me since I understand the requirements of a base case and a recursive call, but I have a hard time seeing patterns. I also spent some time looking at the differences between memoization and tabulation since I was working on the memoization portion of Towers of Hanoi.
For the quests, I finished working on the Hare quest. I did the first 3 miniquests at the end of last quarter, and I was tinkering with the 4th miniquest over the break, so most of the work was already done. The cache was definitely the trickiest part of the quest, but overall I understood it. I struggled a bit with the implementation, and after that my issues were self-inflicted by not reading the specs carefully enough.
For participation, I feel like I was fairly active for the week. I commented just about every day, and also made a post for some tips for Quest 2 on issues that I ran into while working on the quest. I missed the Zoom call since I mistakenly thought it was still on Friday instead of Thursday, but I'll try to hop on this week. Other than that my focus will be to try to PUP quests 3 and 4 this week hopefully.

2025.01.20 04:00 Amused-Or-Thrilled Appleton 2002

I have been searching the sub history for quite a bit and saw the hearts collection was very well received. That being said I tried a sip of this both neat and in a mai tai immediately after and I don’t think that’s how I want to use this going forward, unless it’s a blend that is.
I’m having it in a jet pilot at this moment with a spilt between it Coruba and lemon heart and I definitely do like this. Cask notes of the 2002 absolutely come through.
Was just curious to know if most of you with experience with these rums are neat drinkers or mai tai only or if you have any suggestions for me.

2025.01.20 04:00 Terrible-Guitar-5638 5 fun things to do in & around YEG this week

What's Up Fort Saskatchewan! Once a week I go through most events happening in and around our beautiful city over the coming week, and then send a large list out to my friends. I thought I should share it here.
Get this & 40+ other events as a weekly email update:
https://whatsupedmonton.beehiiv.com/subscribe
Note: The linked publication is ad free & non-monetized. Use it as a directory of things to do as we reconnect in our communities. I send it out every Tuesday morning.
P.S. To all of you who regularly read the publication, send me emails and read/respond to these reddit posts... you folks rock! Thanks for all the positive feedback. It means a lot = )
Note: If you're hosting an event and want to see it in the letter, email me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
Baby, it's cold outside 🎵 (though thankfully not for long)! If the weather forecast is to be trusted, warmer climes are ahead and that means there is plenty of reasons for those of us hunkered down to throw open our screen doors get back outside. If this sounds lovely, then read on, fellow Edmontonian's. And please do have yourselves a lovely week as we move back into negative single digits (hooray!).
5 cool events this week:

Hazeldean Annual Lantern Parade As a former resident of Hazeldean, I can personally attest to the awesomeness of this annual event. On Saturday night, arm thyself with empty milk jugs or other clear containers (that are ripe for modification) and make way to the Hazeldean community hall. There, you'll join the members of many other clans who've gathered from near and far, inspired to make the prettiest lanterns in the land. Dab your glues and strike your coloured pens before adorning your creations with lights & moving en masse through the tranquil trails of Mill Creek, bringing such shining light to all the darkened lands!
Oh. Also, bring thy travel mugs for free helpings of apple cider & hot cocoa, plus indulge in locally bake doughnuts from the venerable Lucy, owner of the-one-and-only Hazeldean bakery. If that alone isn't enough to lure you in, then colour us shocked! For everyone else, enjoy an evening of good times & FREE community fun.
Skate With The Oil Kings On the newsletter, I often hype Oil Kings hockey games. It's undeniably high-paced, actionable hockey that can be enjoyed at a reasonable price point and makes for a great date night or outing with the fam. This week, however holds an opportunity to not only see the Oil Kings for FREE but also to skate alongside & pass a few pucks with them. On Wednesday evening, grab your skates, sticks & little ones (if applicable; this is a family-friendly event) and head out for some time on the ice with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Specially curated personnel will be joining you and yours for an autograph session followed by an hour of shinny and/or free skate. The event is weather dependant but if that aforementioned forecast holds true, it should be a go.
Chinatown Lunar New Year Alright, so... Many of you may recall my (very) brief excerpt on the origins of our Chinatown during last weeks post. I hope you all get a chance to check out Chinatown's Dining Week (which is on until the 26th) and try your tastebuds at some traditional cuisine. This week, however, another exciting event is taking those same streets and you're invited. To celebrate the Lunar New Year, the Chinatown Business Association is throwing a FREE party with an opportunity to experience many aspects of traditional Chinese culture right here in Edmonton. Festivities begin with an opening ceremony, which is immediately proceeded by the Lion and Dragon Parade. For the remainder of the afternoon, attendees will be treated to traditional Lion Dance performances, caricature drawings, calligraphy and flower making, traditional live music, other performers, a Red Envelope draw & much more. There will also be a themed vendor fair to browse plus additional activities available to keep the kids busy.
Swing 'n Skate Alright, I keep mentioning the weather tonight & it might have something to do me writing part of tonights post while hangin' outside (long story). But anyways, while I'm quite literally jumping around to keep warm, are you thinking about ways you can beat this gripping chill? If so, cast aside those matches and do away with your stoves! This coming Sunday, gather at City Hall for an epic live music performance directly from the tropics. Don your favourite sombrero & get ready to jive to the upbeat hits of Manny V. y su Esquina Latina, along with Alicia Ortega. Presented by The Mexican Society of Edmonton, the CoE welcomes you & your friends to a FREE Mexican Folklore fiesta like none other! Bust those moves on the dance floor as the band turns things up to eleven & get ready for a fantastic ol' time. If you'd like to enjoy the music but would prefer to avoid the dance floor, the music will be live broadcast out to the ice rink in City Hall Plaza. Bring your skates or take advantage of FREE skate rentals and carve it up while enjoying some live Latina hits!
Winterruption To conclude this week's list, I'll keep this last one short and sweet (lest these numb fingers of mine fall off). "Winterruption YEG is Edmonton's premier winter music and arts festival" (according to their website). But that claim isn't anything to scoff at. For four evenings & days this week, head downtown and catch a live concert or three from local, national and international artists. There are a handful of FREE shows, though the bulk are ticketed and prices vary. With 90 acts set to play, attendees can expect everything from rock to folk, country to pop & just about everything in between (save for, unfortunately, German Raggae). Tickets are selling fast, check the website for a full artist list, schedule, tickets and more.
Have a fantastic week, folks!
