2025.01.20 06:59 BatSlayer2448 Would this be a good idea?

I (M18) started college last week. There’s a girl in one of my classes that I think is cute. I have this class everyday, and she sits in front of me, but I’ve only talked to her once. On Tuesday, our school is having a MLK commemoration thing, and one of my teachers offered extra credit if we go to it. Would that be something I could ask her to, then maybe grab dinner with her afterwards, or would that be weird? I wanna ask her out, but I’m kinda afraid to do anything lol.

2025.01.20 06:59 Kyuumai Should I create firewall rules to block these ports, or will I regret it later?

Should I create firewall rules (on Windows) to block these ports for added security in my PC? Or will it cause me issues?

  1. Port 135 (MS RPC)
    • Why block: Used by the Microsoft Remote Procedure Call (MS RPC) service, which can be targeted for remote code execution exploits.
    • Service: Microsoft Windows service (potential risk for worms, e.g., Blaster Worm).
  2. Port 137-139 (NetBIOS)
    • Why block: These ports are used for network file sharing and might expose your system to remote file sharing vulnerabilities, especially on older systems.
    • Service: Windows file sharing (SMB, NetBIOS).
    • Risk: NetBIOS-based attacks can allow unauthorized access to shared files.
  3. Port 445 (SMB)
    • Why block: Exposes systems to SMB (Server Message Block) vulnerabilities, such as the WannaCry ransomware exploit.
    • Service: File and printer sharing, Microsoft Windows networking.
    • Risk: SMB vulnerabilities can be exploited to gain remote access to your machine.
  4. Port 23 (Telnet)
    • Why block: Telnet sends data (including credentials) in plaintext, which makes it susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks.
    • Service: Telnet (remote access).
    • Risk: This port is often targeted for brute-force attacks and can be easily intercepted due to the lack of encryption.
  5. Port 22 (SSH)
    • Why block: If SSH access is not needed, it's better to block this port as attackers often target it with brute-force attacks.
    • Service: Secure shell (remote server access).
    • Risk: SSH is secure, but leaving it open without strong authentication could lead to unauthorized access attempts.
  6. Port 1080 (SOCKS Proxy)
    • Why block: Often used by malware to create a proxy connection to evade detection.
    • Service: SOCKS proxy (can be used by malicious applications for evading network filtering).
    • Risk: Malware can use this to mask traffic.
  7. Port 161-162 (SNMP)
    • Why block: SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is vulnerable to attacks if it's exposed to the public internet.
    • Service: Network management.
    • Risk: Attackers can exploit SNMP to gather information about the internal network or device configurations.
  8. Port 53 (DNS)
    • Why block: DNS can be exploited in DDoS attacks or used by malware for communication.
    • Service: Domain Name System (DNS) requests.
    • Risk: Exposed DNS ports can be used in reflection attacks.
  9. Port 31337 (Back Orifice)
    • Why block: Associated with the Back Orifice trojan, a remote administration tool often used by attackers.
    • Service: Often associated with malware.
    • Risk: This port is a known backdoor used by malware.
  10. Port 445 (Microsoft-DS)
  1. Port 137 (NetBIOS Name Service)
  1. Port 1080 (SOCKS Proxy)
Additional Ports to Block (Optional, Based on Use)
  1. Port 69 (Trivial File Transfer Protocol - TFTP)
    • Why block: TFTP is insecure and commonly used by attackers for transferring malicious files.
    • Risk: Used in botnet and DDoS attacks.
  2. Port 161-162 (Simple Network Management Protocol - SNMP)
    • Why block: If SNMP is not needed for network management, block it to prevent potential vulnerabilities.
    • Risk: Exposed SNMP can reveal sensitive network information to attackers.
  3. Port 2049 (NFS)
    • Why block: Used for sharing files between Unix/Linux systems, but can be exploited if misconfigured.
    • Risk: Unrestricted access to file systems can be dangerous.
  4. Port 5000 (UPnP)
    • Why block: Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) can be exploited to enable vulnerabilities in a network, allowing unauthorized access.
    • Risk: Security risks if UPnP is not properly secured or is left exposed.

2025.01.20 06:58 OrangeNood Could my Wii's Component Cable go bad? Should I skip to HDMI?

I have a Wii that I play regularly. A week ago, the display would flash and flicker. Sometimes the image will freeze on screen while the sound continues. I tried a few troubleshooting and eventually decided to switch the cable to its original Composite and use 480i. The color is washed out and image is blurry but it works fine since then.
Today, I took the Component cable and Wii to another TV and noticed that the display has noticeable distortions like old VHS tape.
My Component cable is not genuine but it has worked flawlessly until last week. Is it possible that it is an issue with my Wii and not the cable? It seems newer TVs don't have Component Input. Should I get one of those Wii-to-HDMI-female adapter instead? Would it be better or worse than Component?

2025.01.20 06:58 Steveharvey9809 GPU- Event ID 153 and NVLDDMKM issue

Hi all, I have previously posted about this issue and asked for help, but I believe I left out some details.
This started happening about a night ago, where any game that I would play would just eventually crash, even while doing nothing intensive. At times I was just standing still or in a lobby and it would crash. Often times, with this crash, my screens would go black. This put an immediate red flag to my GPU. This was EVERY game, on any platform.
My pc specs-
Intel core i7 9700k 3.6ghz
Nvidia geforce RTX 2080 ti
Windows 10
32gb corsair vengenze ram (4x8gb)
ample cpu and gpu cooling
750 watt corsair modular power supply (almost brand new)
I have tried lots of software troubleshooting, and performed tests on my pc. My pc will run a benchmark just fine. I did SFC and DISM on command prompt, and did Chkdsk on every drive. I also did a windows memory diagnostic test. All these pointed to no errors. I have used ddu and reintalled drivers countless times. Restarted countless times. Changed out power cables, tried different pci-e slots. I did all kinds of things. I also ran a stress test, or a stability test, which crashed within minutes.
I was on the phone with nvidia support for hours trying to solve the issue. At this point, they have just said I need to get a new graphics card.
Each time the game crashes, I get an error in event viewer. The error is something like: nvlddmkm application stopped and has been restarted, or nvlddmkm is not available. Something random like that. I really do not want to have to get a new card, because this card should be fine, as it's only around 4 years old.
Right now I am running a radeon rx 570 in the same slots with the same cable, no issues what so ever. Leading me to believe it is card specific, or nvidia specific.
If anyone has any insight, please do let me know!
