So I'm finally getting back into dating after my ex and I split (fun times 🙄). Been seeing Plenty of Fish everywhere and figured I'd check it out since it's supposedly free. But man, something feels off about this whole thing.
Made a free account last week and immediately got flooded with messages which seems weird af. Like, I'm not ugly but I'm definitely not getting 50 messages a day material lmao. And why does every profile look like it belongs to a professional model who just happens to be an engineer working overseas?
The whole thing feels sus - half the messages are clearly copy-pasted, everyone wants to move to WhatsApp instantly, and there's this constant push to upgrade to premium. They keep showing me these "upgraded matches" but won't let me see them without paying ($30 a month??? seriously??).
Been trying the free version but honestly can't tell if there are any real people on here. Like, the profiles say they're local but something seems off. And what's with everyone having just one perfect photo and the most generic bio ever?
Already tried Bumble and Hinge but they're dead in my area (small city problems). At least POF seems to have local profiles but can't tell if they're actual humans or just bots.
For context - I'm mid 30s, have decent pics, normal job, just looking to meet some real people. Not trying to find my soulmate but also not trying to get my identity stolen lol.
Anyone actually used POF recently? Is premium worth it? How bad is the scammer situation really? And do they make it impossible to cancel if you do pay?

I don't know, it gives me a very strange feeling to see things like the skill icons using a stylized style of just a silhouette, while the item icons look like drawings made in paint, (I'm not saying that the icons are ugly, but they don't match the art of the rest of the game) and I'm not sure what setting they want the game to have if they want to create something futuristic or something more fantasy, of course you can have a middle ground between those two options but the character designs seem to only go for one of those two options, there is none that has a design that combines both themes effectively (with the exception of Argus), and it also baffles me what they are trying to represent with the jungle creatures, I don't see that they have a design according to the advantage they give when killing them, am I the only one who feels that?
